Doom 4 Announced

Doom4 needs:

- chainsaw (they let Gears steal too much thunder. Time to steal it back)
-berserk with gib punch
-some other outrageously nasty melee attack like a flying tornado kick that decapitates enemies and busts down walls
-pump shotgun with satisfying sound, animation and looks like a real shotgun, not some space age crap
-wacky enemies, and lots of them
- !!!!!!!CO-OP!!!!!!!
- maybe some ultra pixels or something, with lip shading

Doom4 needs:

- the devs to play painkiller before working on the game

I almost forgot about that game... definitely. I think that would help to add to Doom's already unique atmosphere. Too bad I can't play either right now anyway :(.

there also need to be much less story telling and more action, if it has a story you should be able to play while ignoring it as in e.g. Far Cry. I don't want to spend half the time listening to audio logs.

More enemies even if it means less realism, the original engine allowed you to fight a horde of 100 imps or some other assortment of baddies.
I hope their engine allows to display and manage lots of characters. Doom 3 engine was very limited because of the way it's made, but it was a stop-gap and a dead end (a very nice one at that, pushing NV2x and NV3x to their limits)

Faster running speed. Staying corpses! Quake 1 had those features (and you ran at something like 100mph which was a bit too fast but you didn't spend time crawling through the map)

Get back to the old one map = one independant level concept. Actually I'd like something a bit like Goldeneye where you don't carry your arsenal over, but you have to complete the level with what you are given at the beginning and what you find then. That should have been like that in the original games. Warping to a level and completing it starting with the pistol and 50 ammo was very fun (E3M3 for instance), except when that's impossible because the level expected you to have a rocket launcher and a BFG.

off course we need great sounds, shotgun should sound awesome, more like in Terminator 2. no, give us the actual Terminator 2 shotgun!

Well, imo Id should take risks this time around. With doom3, im not sure why (probably because it was doom3) they didn't take many risks and tried to keep a no frill approach to it even if some of their original ideas/plot etc was brilliant. Having to also play doom3 alpha version before as well, clearly illustrates this (ive always liked the alpha compard to the final release. The "alpha" shotgun, mechanical noise made frm the "alpha" pinky, death animations!). They got rid of alot of stuff (and i mean alot of stuff) that could have made doom3 alot more exciting.

I guess after trent reznor left (some of his audio was pure goodness), the audio side of doom3 just took a nose dive. Remember the pistol? Yuck!

Anyway, id wish they take these risks. They have nothing to lose. Here are some of the things i wish id brought back:
-Bringing back the spider mastermind, and other nasties
-More badass weapons with the appropriate sound :devilish:
-Resurrecting zombies (this was actually going to be part of doom3, and the player could stand on top the resurrecting zombie as it struggles to get up then blowing its brains out again) with their remains left all over the place
-Im guessing its going to be hell on earth, if doom3 was the beginning of the storyline. Sounds like blasting baddies on demon infested cities.
-Bring back those reflective surfaces that never made it in doom3, which was going to be another part of the gameplay. (evading demons/zombies for e.g)
-Gore, Gore, flying limbs, gore, blood squirting our from bullet holes in various angles (never made it into the final game).

Ill definately be looking out for this one. Hopefully it doesn't turn out like DNF

trent reznor if NiN? did audio for Doom?

anyway i found doom3 TOO simplified. dark, monsterS jump out and BLAMO. i prefer ambushing THEM. it was like a teen slasher movie only it looped over and over and over again. they went overboard on the goo and gore i thought too...finally decided this is a Teen game, cause this take on things just doesn't do it for someone whos been there already and gotten bored with that approach...dark, gore, SURPRISE is anything but when it's a cliche.

We got a complaint this was a dupe because of one in console games. Well, that's the pain of having separate forums.

Would be great if they used soft-flesh for some fat ugly monsters. Just imagine hitting a fleshy monster with a stick to see him laugh while the stick gets burried inside the belly tires, that with cinematic camera movements.

I'm ready for the next evolution of dark id Software creations. Just don't make it just like Doom3. Need something fresh, eh.

I just hope they put some focus on the graphics for the PC version and don't leave us stuck with a carbon copy console version and the lame excuse of "but it runs at 60hz!"

This is the PC forum, for the PC game, which Doom is more a nature part of than what was posted in the console for anyway. So if there is any "dupe" it is more likely the console one, despite it being posted first ;). Either way, they should be co-existing.

Does it matter which Doom is more "part of" ? The Doom series has been on many consoles. :???: ;)

Yes. :)

Look I want this game to be 30fps on consoles and yo uknow why? BEcouse then I will play it at 60fps with much more graphic detail than if it was 60fps on consoles. I need those doom bringer soft edged shadows licking my screen together with per pixel motion-blur.

*Slaps myself*

Doom 64 was good stuff, eh. It was Doom crazyness with Quake's dark evil atmosphere. Came out before Quake 2, I think, and was the only Doom port to try something new. No multiplayer at all though, oddly.

Also, my bro and I linked up 2 GBAs years ago to beat coop Doom 1 and 2 on them. That was cool. Those versions of the games have some concessions made to deal with the limited RAM of the hardware tho. Apparently based on Atari Jaguar Doom.

I've always been curious to see how devs dealt with console limitations when porting PC games over. I'm not so fond of being on the other side now, watching PC games get castrated coming from obsolete, limited consoles.

Something new you say? Doom 3 - With a Physics Gun!

<mumbles something about setting low expectations...>

Seriously though, persistent flesh/gib with physics (should be bits dripping off the walls & piled in the corners at the end of a firefight), big booming gun sounds, lots of enemies, exterior maps, AI, pathing choices & shadows that aren't pure black to hide the zombies waiting for you to trip the script.
