Does disk space affect graphics?

I sit like 1 foot away from a native 1280 x 720 17in screen using and HDMI to DVI-D connection from my PS3 and Xbox 360. I almost notice everything. As for compression, I meant lossless compression, if they can compress it with no artifacts I'm all for, I don't mind compression in films/ movies/ blu-ray, just pre-rendered game cutscenes bugs me because it's inconsistent. I'm not in the movie industry :( I'm an audiophile and videophile though :D

Sounds like you are shooting for the holy grail.

I don´t think lossless video compression is used commercialy anywhere. And if there is some loss there per definition are artefacts present. If these artefacts are always perceptable to the human eyes, hmm yeah I guess there is where the videophile parameter kicks in.

IMO Good h264 compressed 3-4mbps 720p (1.5-2mbps for subHD) video should be pretty artifactless. As an example - here's my encodes of game footage - http://openpandora.info/video/ IMO it does look good enough. Though flash does artifact a bit since of high reframes count e.t.c.

Yes, there is correlation. Even Carmack has said so. His new game will have better graphics on the PS3 version simply because he has more space.

His game uses an unusual system though, megatexturing.

Besides, Carmack/Id have gone back and forth so many times on platform differences, who knows which will be better til the final arrives.

And there are many multiplatform games this gen that look/run better on 360 (DVD) vs PS3 (Blu Ray). Does that mean DVD is superior?

That's not due to the disc though. It's a combination of other factors such as developer laziness/lack of time, the majority of the budget allocated to the system that sells better, PS3's OS footprint, MS's personal investments, etc. None of which are the variables being asked in the original question

Carmack specifically attributed it to having more space.
