DOA4 looking better?

Ive got my fingers crossed that theyve done something better with the lighting, though i know thats pretty much a pipe dream.

Well self shadowing may have been a feature they've had in code for a long time but haven't been able to make look right. Some recent scans show motionblur in reflections and I think that's a big deal. Team Ninja may just have a general dislke of how selfshadowing makes their characters look.

I think they've nailed the motion blur and it must look incredible at 60fps.

It looks sharper and cleaner than earlier pics. VF5's skin detail and the use of lighting/shadows still clearly looks better and more natural.

Looks like they're making use of camera effects for the cut-scenes. :)

I wonder if they're making use of predicated tiling...

Yep this game is CONFIRMED by blimblim to be running at 720p @ 60fps w/ 4xAA

I wonder do the muscles flex

because that guys back didn't have that much muscle before. if they do flex that will make up for any short comings with the lighting, for me atleast

um, I doubt it. I'm sure it's just geometry. i doubt you'll see any game on the new consoles that uses any sort of muscle deformation system. it's a very computation intensive task, even for these new consoles.

Fight Night has it I believe...

I would imagine muscle deformation would have to be planned very early in the development cycle and we would have heard a lot about it in all the interviews done by now.

Actual muscle deformation? no I don't think so. The effects they are using when someone is punched in the face doesn't necesarrily need a muscular system. The ripples and jiggle of the flesh when recieving a punch can be simulated with softbody systems.

I'm talking muscle deformation like was used in the incredibles movie. you make a slekeletal structure, add the muscles to the skeleton, and the muscules drive flexing, stretching, and skin deformation (skin sliding over top of of a muscule for instance). Games don't do this for a number of reasons.

Doesn't Lair also have it?

again, I doubt it.

Actually, this reminds me of Shrek. On the dvd they mention how the muscle stretching was an unintended effect when they added the muscles to the characters. :)
