Destiny [PS3,X360,PS4,XO]

Yes. AFAIK even super elite say COD players have lame K/D ratios like 1.5:1. Everybody gravitates to 1:1 no matter how good. That's considered great...25:1 over a long term is literally basically impossible.
How is Destiny matchmaking/ranking for PVP?

In WoW non-rated battlegrounds are a free-for-al. As a hunter and ten year veteran of Alterac Valley, I often walk out with 150-200 kills and <5 deaths, sometimes no deaths. But then I play with an experienced group of 5-7 people in the larger battleground of 40vs40. For our unit it's easy to roam around destroying pockets of individuals who, unlike us, are not experienced and/or communicating and/or playing their roles.

Even when there are ranking systems, they can often be manipulated so very experienced players can drop into the rankings of new players.

thats quite different with me.

in destiny i understand -nothing-. hey, i even just know that i can join faction today, by reading post in B3D. I also have just known the existence of Xur vendor.
i still dont understand how to get strange coins, how to get exotic stuff, how to get level 26 (i already wear all legendary and stuck in level 25), etc.

in any MMO i ever played, i never this clueless.

EDIT:
i also did not even know the materials in the world is used for what. Spinmeals? Ascending Shared?

Oy...lol.

You should just google anything you're curious about...and maybe the word guide or something...like "spinmetal destiny guide", "strange coin destiny guide" , "Light levels destiny guide" you will find all you need. It might help to keep a notepad and some light notes on what you learn too, just to keep it organized in your head.

Anyways to gain levels now you'll need to upgrade your armor. Eventually the defense upgrades will start including a +2 light bonus, and eventually this will lead to higher levels. The going gets pretty slow anyway.

With all legendary+one exotic armor, fully upgraded, you can reach 29.

You can only get 29 though without Raid gear from VoG. And the problem becomes this incredibly rare resource called ascendant shards...is needed for later upgrades to the armor. So for that reason, my plan is to not waste shards upgrading legendary armor to 29. Because that armor will have to be thrown away when you get raid gear if you wish to reach 30. I'm going to barely get 28 and stop, until I see a path to 30 (raid gear). 28 should be good because you should be able to do pretty much any game activity at 28. And there's no value to being a high 28 vs a low 28, 28 is 28.

I have seen one argument for 29 before raid gear, that with 29 you can do hard VoG and get double chances for loot. So far I'm not far enough to be able to evaluate the validity of that argument though.

No idea, barely done any PvP...

But it's a FPS and most level advantages are disabled in PVP, so you wont get any ridiculous domination like what you speak of, so it's basically more like COD multiplayer.

It's not level advantage it's experience vs. inexperienced and groups who co-ordinate and communicate vs. those who don't. That's 95% of dominating in any group-based PVP game - all things being equal, e.g. skill.

Am at level 27 now.....good progress I would say.
@Orangelupa: the game did tell me most of it as and when it unlocked. Xur is to be found and told about to friends !
And if the reward is a shotgun, well. Crucible is the only place I use shotguns. Let's see.
As of now, I went back to PvE.

I gotta say, what you guys are describing for leveling up past 20 sounds terribly uninteresting. Not sure if I'll bother. I love the shooting (it's pretty much exactly like Halo), but the rest of the game kinda sucks. I really thought Bungie would do better than this. Meh, maybe they're a different company now.

I don't know how u are reading it but I had the most fun after Level 20, especially in the overly tough Queens Order missions.
Can't wait for Nightfall and the Raid to become 'playable' for me. As of now I am sure I will be ***ed in there !

Yeah, I'm disappointed to not have been proven wrong from my initial impression of the beta. I don't know if I will even bother buying this when it hits $30 including all DLC. I'm shocked that the 2 DLCs that makes up the "season pass " have a price of $35. From the sounds of them, its just more grinding of the exact same areas for different reasons. The "end game" sounds so worthless.

Destiny's story makes Halo 4 seem like a masterpiece.

I really wanted a new must have game.

I'm so mad I missed out on the Suros Regime. I love auto rifles to begin with, and this thing seems a beast by all accounts :( Even the name sounds badass.

Oh well I didn't have 23 strange coins last week anyway.

Des anybody know, when Bungie said they were gonna nerf auto rifles, is that just for PVP or PVE as well?
Yeah, I really want Suros Regime. Or even Shadow Price. I have 3 legendary ARs but two of them have 72 bullet magazines with a high fire rate and terrible stability with low range (so not good for PvE IMO) and the third I have only has a 22 bullet magazine (forget what the names of them are).

I consider myself fairly fluent in video game speak. I mean somewhere in my mothers house there is a closet with a C64 & Zork, LOL. However, like you, I must express my dismay with understanding the 'mechanics" of Destiny. Had this thing for a week & I'm still level 1 (there is no way in hell I'm going to be able to kill all those guys outside that hangar by myself) & of course no MMO action. If they are going to require a certain level of single player PLAY before one can get to the multiplayer then they need to advertise that.

Now this certainly looks like a fun game, but I am beginning to doubt that I will ever get to that part. I mean WOW starts you off nice & easy as a single player experience (primarily as a learning curve, which is fine) but you do have the OPTION of interacting with another human being from the moment you launch. This forced single player in Destiny sucks, (IMHO). I was outside on the 1st level, but my PS4 loaded a new patch on Thursday & it put me back at the very beginning. I certainly hope this is not indicative of patching in this game. Frankly, I'm thinking if you did not start this day one or very soon thereafter, then this 'game' is just horrible. I wonder 6 months down the road, a person buys a new PS4 & gets this game, what the average reaction will be.

Some of you guys are making me feel like an ace video game player by comparison

Which as I said, realistically I'd consider myself average to somewhere below (and pretty terrible at PvP/multiplayer, although I never put much time in those modes).

However, like you, I must express my dismay with understanding the 'mechanics" of Destiny.

It's not that hard if you put in a little work at it. And really not even that much work. It probably also helps to be playing alongside learning. For example despite hearing about Ascendant Shards for a while, I didnt fully grasp the mechanics of them and how rare they are until I get to that part, basically. It's the same with all of it, hands on experience helps.

Oh and I forgot this for you Pelupa, some general guides to high level play from GAF

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=132288032&postcount=1

Look at the post 20 leveling guide part 1, and so forth.

Last few times I have completed first gold tier daily public event, daily mission/strike, I have gotten a whopping...one ascendant energy LOL. Which I now think I have a whopping 5 of total. Every time I see that lonely reward I go "SERIOUSLY?" lol.

Anyways I wont use them, save them for an exotic I guess.

Also Destinypublicevents.com has not been working well for me last couple times. I dont know if Bungie is just screwing with us or what. Public events have been hard as hell to come by for me lately.

Rangers,

That's the problem I have with destiny. I need to keep googling. Heck, even to enjoy the story I need to open grimoire from Web.

The game explains and shows so little.

For example, I almost never see anyone use the autocover mechanic although it is highly beneficial. When I told my fireteam level 27, he was shocked. He did not even know it exist.

Renegade,
Nice thanks, I'll read that and hopefully make me got one level more.

just read the guide on GAF. so basically i need to farm strange coins by doing weekly strike. But it limited 9 per-week.

but... how do i know i already reach this limit or not? is there an indicator i can check?
and why Bungie did not simply add "Strange Coins" on the reward list... man.. even thing as simple as that, is not available in-game. Need web browser.

It is there on the reward list. Click on the Weekly strike and then you can see the rewards when you select the difficulty.... and you can check the number of strange coins you have in the inventory. Its a big system and yes, somethings you find out from your friends. Frankly, there would be too much text if they explain everything. Its the same with Warframe too, one has no idea at all about anything in that game and I had to ask everything in this forum or discover it by doing it. It happens with all games with multiple mechanics I guess. Th eonly answer is a wiki page or a huge in game manual in the main menu.

BTW, whats hte automatic cover system? I never heard about it , lol?

this is my current status:

Man, that Gaf thread  ! I wanna do the nightfall strike RIGHT NOW !!!! Exotics ! But its the damned Valruc or Talruc or whatever, he is one tough guy to take down even in the Weekly Heroic mode ! It was finally with Bigmanny and his Gaf friend that we did it this morning !

unfortunately in weekly strike, the reward of strange coints never mentioned in-game map pop up (its not there on the list at all). It will be nice if Bugnie add this in mission pop up.

Rewards:
+ Strange Coins (amounts follows difficulty)

Just like what they has done for Skirmish crucible (above weekly strike).

Btw these "inconsistencies" is not only can be found on menu, but also in gameplay mechanic + story that the game goes to great length explains and showed..... Its like they have multiple team worked in closed doors and add stuff without talking with each other.

About strange coints, i do able to check it on inventory but i dont know how to check do i still eligible to get strange coints from weekly straight. If i already get the max ammount of coints per-week. Why i need to do weekly strike again? (and currently its the boring and super long battle with Valet Taurus)

about "Auto cover". Basically you look for stuff that as tall as your hip. Crouch there, and you can pop your head out when pressing LT. Very useful for shooting Valet Taurus (he cant shoot you at all when you hide pop hide pop). Unfortunately you need to position yourself in -certain way- to make this system works. Too close to stuff, not working. Too far, not working. Too angled, not working, etc.

about poorly explains multiple mechanic, yeah its not exclusively wrong in destiny. Battlefield also very wrong (how can i know that turning jet in exact 300 speed = fastest turn without google...). But at least they are consistent in the gameplay mechanic (only up to BFBC2, since BF3 to BF4 the destruction mechanic is inconsistent). On the other hand, Titanfall are really bad at delivering the story but awesome at explaining and showing gameplay mechanic to players.

EDIT:
some example of the inconsistencies in gameplay + story:
Restoration story mission
Dinklebot say blah blah blah, we need information blahblah, then finally "Its the map of the whole area", "let me download it". Then... eh? Where's the map? Dinklebot, give me the map please...

Venus,
Busy girl - "do you know the black garden that so evil it despises own evil"
Dinklebot - "yeah, we've heard the legend"
me - ??? what legend? what are you talking dinklebot?

1st intro mission
Laser mine that allow you to proceed by
- Defusing them,
- Blow them up,
- Passing them by croucing, or
- Lure enemy to kill themselves

this laser mine never used again. It appear in earth mission to kill Serpent Prime (Purple sphere thing) but it was changed to invincible laser that need to be disabled by dinklebot after 3 waves of enemy (they love this "waiting dinklebot" game).

Conquest - earth map
Flag C is marked as B

Btw anybody has succeeded visiting the 1st mission again? The area called as "The Gateway".

EDIT2:
other unexplained gameplay mechanic but useful
- Sparrow can hit-and-run enemy
- Sparrow can be used as "kamikaze" bike
- Dinklebot "waiting game" is not waiting at all. It was enemy-bound. So dont wait, kill them all. But the last-phase only need the miniboss to be killed (no need to kill the grunts).

You can stop playing the game when you hit 20? Or 15 for that matter? I have already gotten more than my moneys worth from the time i have spend with the game, mostly running around by myself and killing stuff, and enjoying the different locations. It's a beautiful game and it´s fun to play, even with a messed up story.

As for the grind, to be brutal, that is what differs hc players and the rest, if you want to be in the front of everyone else, you play constantly. It´s always been like that in MMO environments, if it was any different, everything would be dead now in destiny, including the game. I think it´s fair to complain about not being allowed to see everything the game has to offer, because of the gear requirements involved and the time needed. But if they do what Blizzard have done, then the DLC packs will add lvls and gear that will make it easier to see that content, and then the rest of us can see that content.

TLDR, the game is working as intended and i think it´s doing just fine with the gear requirements and dedication required.

unfortunately when you reach the end of story campaign, it is "to be continued". not end.
the game is also very short if you blast through the story campaign. the campaign can be completed way below the recommended level but it became annyoing really fast because keep dying and killing same enemy again (especially on black garden). But if i grind to levelup (repeating mission, bounty, farming, etc) it is boring again (killing same stuff, same location).

btw as the story progress and more mission accessible, the boss will repeat. They are the same, just scaled up (bigger), and given different names.
