Destiny [PS3,X360,PS4,XO]

I don't play Destiny anymore but I played PvP a lot and was in the top 1% in most leaderboards when I stopped and I almost exclusively played a Hunter, but here are my opinions on it.

Nightstalker is a fun class to play and definitely the hardest class of the three hunter options available. But it isn't the best in that if you do well with Nightstalker you'd do better with the other subclass. Gunslinger is an amazing class for absolute consistency, all three grenade options are great, double throwing knife is amazing for that clutch one on one victory and I don't need to say anything about the Golden Gun.

Bladedancer now, this subclass has the best abilities overall imo. Infact Quickdraw alone puts it above others, blink has been nerfed but it is still a better option for a hit and run gamestyle than other jumps. The blink strike has a huge huge range and the extra damage means you can probably cheap out a victory in a 1v1 situation (and then there is the fact that you can facestab). The super on its own is actually a difficult one because if you get going then you can get a lot of kills, other times you'll struggle to kill even one player it lacks the consistency and safety of Golden Gun but if you build your playstyle around it then you can get pretty effective use out of it.

Arc Blade weaknesses: you have to maneuver very close to multiple enemies before popping it to have any hope of multikills, because obviously you have to be in melee distance to kill with it. This is pretty difficult alone. Unlike Stormtrance or Hammer where you're just a floating ball of long distance death. Arc Blade has been nerfed where even if you are right on top of 4+ enemies, your energy depletes so fast with each swing it's very difficult to get more than 3 kills no matter how great a position you are in. You could have 5 enemies all bunched perfectly and run out of super after you kill 3. It's pathetic. Bungie effectively capped it about 3 kills regardless. It's also very vulnerable, and even from a few feet can be teamshot dead in it's tracks with utter ease.
You can kill all 4 or 5 easily if you have enemies close, you just have to stop using hungering blade (useless in most modes since the delay in health refill means it is not as effective) and instead use the one that extends the duration with each kill + MoTTM. Also Showstopper is better than Razor's Edge because:

1) Showstopper is superior for times when you are surrounded
2) Razor's Edge is only useful for getting enemies that are away from you, but it is too slow and it stops you during the animation giving the enemy a chance to run/hit if you miss/they dodge (which is easy). Simply chasing them and using standard melee is a superior option and also saves energy.

It all depends what mode you play. Nightstalker is very good, particularly in 3v3 modes. You see a lot more nightstalkers in Trials these days, and that's all you see in 'sweaty' 3v3 competitions for people running hunter. Reason being is it has the best neutral game of the 3 subclasses. Supers are not used as effectively in 3v3 modes, therefore people generally prefer a stronger neutral game in these modes.

IMO, Razor's edge is far superior to Showstopper in PVP. How often are you surrounded by multiple enemies where showstopper can get multi kills? You never see this these days. People know to run and team-shoot bladedancers so razor's edge + hungering blade is the most used setup for bladedancer. Blink+BD swipe+the hunter's high agility lets you close the gap on enemies quickly.

Hunter is not my main, I play all 3 characters pretty evenly. But I have close to 39,000 crucible kills with a 1.38 global K/D, 68% global win% and have gone flawless 75x.

Destiny has some weird RNG. I get the same stuff, its so predictable. Immolation Fist, Peregrine Greaves, TLW, Hawkmoon over and over. I almost never get a special weapon engram either. Primary, Legs and Arms 75% of the time.

How hard is it to make it somewhat random?

Edit: Then I get 3/4 of my next engrams being special weapons. WTF?

So, I've been trying to achieve 1.0 K/D, and man, it's been a whole lot more struggle than I thought! Even sticking to best loadout. Man, it's been pretty brutal. I can play like 30 matches over the course of a couple days and not gain an inch. Every good game met with a bad one and vice versa...

I'm still stuck at .94 and around 1030-1040 more kills than deaths short of 1.0 (~15k kills ~16k deaths).

Part of the problem is in clash about every 3-4 games it seems like, you run into a pubstomp team, that is decent and organized, and it's very hard to not get crushed in k/d. And stupid Bungie barely brings back 6v6 freelance once a month.

I guess on the flip side I've won several rumble matches lately. Which is nice.

I was also looking a Tracker and noticed my lifetime IB k/d is apparently 1.04 or something. Compared to my lifetime clash k/d of .94. I think it's because I'll typically have a gear advantage in IB.

I try to vary between Rumble and Clash. It occurred to me I could do better k/d maybe using Rift/Control and not doing objectives, but, not gonna cheat. Same reason I dont just quit when I run into one of those pubstomping teams, I play out the string.

I've pretty much not even raided the last couple weeks. It's only needed if at all for IB (to get your PVP gear high for IB) (I mean now that I'm 320). Since I know we're headed to 335 there's no point. So just crucible, it's been relaxing.

This game is so fun in loadouts, I spend a good amount of time, inspired by reddit, just thinking, about how I could increase my Oryx/Sisters DPS with SGA or Sleeper Simulant. Running through all the scenarios, ammo constraints, etc. In the end I decided just not worth the trouble, but the game still amazes me like that.

The new content, not sure what to think. I defended POE when it existed, but in retrospect didn't like it. But I think it was mostly Skolas was too difficult/stressful. POE itself was OK.

I've been badgering for some non-raid ways to get max gear, and it seems like maybe Bungie heard. They said several ways to get 335 gear IIRC.

Regardless, the update wont be much, then we'll be waiting months more for DLC. Ehh, it all goes with my theory Bungie is basically done with Destiny 1 because it was too hard to update, and is full speed ahead for Destiny 2. I dont expect much more Destiny 1 support so I cant be disappointed.

I'm playing PoE34 occasionally solo these days. It's actually quite nice with the exception of the bullet sponge bosses. This week's Cabal boss took some patience though and you better use a Defender. If Strikes bore you these days give it a try.

If everything has bored toy in Destiny, if you like exploring,

Try finding :

all of atheon-chan mailboxes on Venus
All damage-able crates on Mars
All locked areas

Killing it in IB...went +59 today! In 27 matches...doesn't sound so impressive that way. Albeit a fair few are drop in in progress.

In fact I looked and I only had negative k/d for 6 out of the 27 matches. Although 4 more were right on the dot 1.0.

Also, a few of those matches I played around with my Dis 43 again, which while fun, inevitably is less effective (I try to play around with it sometimes as my range weapon on Widows Court etc, one of the sights has +5 range, I run that).

So, currently at -979 for 1 k/d...

I guess it's being 319 with 320 Mida, although usually I only see crits for maybe 58 or something, I guess it all adds up at the margins..

I feel like regular crucible the last week or two had lost a lot of players to The Division, so only the good hardcore players were left. I dunno what it was, but the last two weeks or so felt pretty brutal.

The arms day Arminus-D finally has a PvP "god" roll. Good thing I bought two packages, one was already a PvE god roll, now the PvP one is here. Max fire rate, braced frame, counter balance and crowd control. The PvE version, which I love, is the same with spray and play instead of counter balance.

Yeah I missed that. I cry...

ah well, Bungie is set to detail the crucible re balance next week. So maybe everything will change.

I really think it's pretty balanced. Just nerf Sunsingers and buff hunters and nerf Stormtrance (it literally lasts 5 hours, while all hunter supers last less than 1 second).

I dunno, I dont love the current meta but cant say what I'd change. Really, scout rifles are not good, MIDA is good. Every other scout is average (well besides Tlalocovixh which we wont count as it's different).

I have a feeling they will buff HC's a bit, because people complain, and that will just make them OP again (since the subtlest changes get magnified 100X in a MP environment)

I do love most of the stuff announced today. 1:1 infusion I like, although part of me again worries it's TOO easy, maybe they coulda increased infusion to 90% or something? Oh well I still like it.

The other big change is it seems like they are offering more varied ways to hit 335 including for solo players. Great! I know many times, raid is just very stressful. I'd rather do something else, but still want to progress. Also it sucks when "done raiding for the week, cant progress until the reset".

Also, they're bringing oldies back including my baby Badger CCL! Wonder if it would still hold up in crucible. Kinda doubt it but we'll see...

Meh, crucible is still have their level advantage disabled right? Then I'll still use thorn, y1 fusion rifle, and y1 machine gun.

My "god" roll autorifle has such bad muzzle flash I couldn't hit anything. Arg... I didn't notice it with the PvE version since mobs are easy to track. Did anyone see the info about no more loss of light level with infusion in the April update? I'm not going to decrypt anymore exotic/leg engrams or infuse anything until after the patch.

I dont know what I'd do for a primary if I couldn't use Mida. Maybe go to my Dis 43 and see K/D suffer? Or try PDX 45, Arminius -D, or last word. Those seem to be the 2nd tier of semi-viable y2 primaries. I suspect I would struggle a lot especially with the latter guns as it would require a playstyle change.

I always feel like I'm using by far a better primary than most people, my huge amount of time in the game guarantees I have access to the best, and win most primary engagements, and even dont use my special much (Mida is honestly so good it's sometimes hard to justify using a special weapon, better than a sniper in most scenarios).

But I feel like Mida is a less dominant primary than Nerwin's Mercy was by a good degree. That thing just raked, at pretty much all ranges. Mida will get trumped up close.

I have access to most everything Y2, but most of it does not fit my play-style. I use Mida a lot for the extra speed, but at close range it can be hard to use (like all scouts). I'll probably just stick to Mida, but I was looking forward to a better short range game. I have a Does Not Bow with counterbalance and hip fire, but that archtype can't compete well with the faster firing ARs.

Bungie’s final Destiny preview before the April update hit Wednesday. The developer covered some significant changes coming to the weapon balance and gameplay mechanics. Most notably, the ammo economies are being tweaked once again for the PlayStation and Xbox shooter while revive mechanic changes will make reviving teammates riskier.

The reveal of Destiny changes in the April update came via a Twitch livestream by Bungie. The update will arrive Tuesday, April 12, with the official patch notes dropping sometime before then.

Revive mechanic changes

Reviving requires players to be closer to the downed player to revive. Revive also takes a little longer, and you can no longer sprint revive. The overshield strength is not as strong as before.

In Trials of Osiris, the revive mechanic has changed. The first time a player dies, the revive timer is seven seconds. The second time is 14 seconds, the third is 21 seconds, and so on.

These changes were to make revives more risk versus reward.

Special and Heavy Weapon Ammo Economies

Destiny players came up with ways to get around the removal of Special Weapon ammo during 3v3 matches. Now players will spawn with Special ammo at the beginning of a match. However, Special ammo crates will spawn three minutes into a match and then every two minutes after. The goal is to decrease the amount of Special ammo in Destiny Crucible.

Meanwhile, Heavy ammo will only spawn once during a match. It will come in at the five-minute mark during a match and will not spawn again. The exception to the rule is the Mayhem gametype; it will continue spawn frequently in that mode.

Crucible Rewards

Crucible will be more rewarding. Legendaries will drop more often as end-game rewards. There will also be ways to receive items up to the new Light level of 335. One way will be to complete a weekly bounty from Lord Shaxx. Trials of Osiris will drop 335 armor and weapons from the Mercury chest. Trials of Osiris bounties will drop armor and weapons up to 330 Light.

Iron Banner will now only drop Iron Banner gear. The Legendary armor and weapon drops have been removed. Bungie is also guaranteeing a level 320 Ghost and Artifact drop for players who reach Iron Banner rank 5. Additionally, the Iron Banner bounty that required achieving 2,500 points in a match has been reduced to 1,500 points and match completion.

A Sterling Treasure chest is guaranteed by completing one match of the weekly Crucible activity.

General Weapon Changes

High rate of fire Auto Rifles base damage is coming down a little bit. Low rate of fire Auto Rifles will be coming up a little bit.

Low rate of fire Pulse Rifles base damage is coming up a little bit. Two burst headshots from the lowest rate of fire Pulse Rifle can kill an enemy with low armor.

Hand Cannon ammo inventory is being increased. This doesn’t increase the amount of ammo in a magazine, just the total amount a player can carry.

Fusion Rifles will receive a “blanket stability increase.” This will cause the projectiles to have a much tighter grouping than before to make the weapon class more effective.

Sniper Rifles with short zooms have had their zooms increased further to make close range engagements more difficult. Ambush, Shortgaze, and Long view have all been changed with increased zooms. Bungie has also added two frames of zoom time to decrease snap scope shots. The snapshot perk has also been decreased from 30 percent to 20 percent. Stability has also been decreased slightly across the board.

The sidearm exploit has been removed as well. Switching from the weapon will cause you to lose all Special Weapon ammo.

Meanwhile, the total inventory amount for Shotgun, Machine Gun, and Sniper ammo have been reduced. PVE ammo bricks for Special and Heavy Weapon ammo will drop more frequently to offset the inventory reduction.

MIDA Multi-tool has proven to be extremely popular since it was re-introduced in the December update. Bungie is removing High-Caliber Rounds as one of the weapons’ perks to mitigate the effects of being hit by a round from the gun.

Suros Regime’s “Spinning Up” perk kicks in a little bit later now. It will take effect four bullets later. Meanwhile, the “Focus Fire” option will get a range boost.

Hawkmoon’s effective range has been increased. This will help with accuracy too.

The Last Word damage has been reduced for the namesake perk. This will increase the time to kill for headshots when firing from the hip.

Thorn is still a Year One weapon. Minimized Damage over Time in PVP reduced the duration of the pulse from six to four. The intensity of the poison effect on the screen has also been reduced. No more kills with only two or three body shots from the Thorn.

Icebreaker is still a Year One weapon as well. It was making it difficult to tune the Destiny ammo economy. Now players will lose all Special Weapon ammo when switching from the Icebreaker.

Dreg’s Promise projectiles now track based on ADS lock. You will get a lock-on indicator when aiming down sights, but there is no audio cue when this happens.

Telesto projectiles will attach to friends or a friendly Ward of Dawn but will not damage them. This can result in turning a player into a Telesto bomb.

The 1000-Yard Star is the most popular Sniper Rifle used in PVP. To give more options to players, the weapon will carry less inventory.

Quillum’s Terminus and Harrowed Quillum’s Terminus will have less inventory. All other King’s Fall weapons have received increased reload speed.

Warlock Changes

The three Warlock sub-classes will not go untouched in the Destiny April Update. Sunsingers have had their Flame Shield protection stats and frequency reduced. Bungie has improved the other melee options to balance this out. Fireborn time has been reduced, but Firebolt grenades have been left untouched.

Stormcallers will have to budget their supers going forward. The Stormtrance super will no longer seem like it lasts forever. Additionally, the Landfall perk will no longer blow up bubbles and it will no longer blind players. Additional changes to the sub-class will be revealed via the upcoming Destiny patch notes.

Voidwalkers will see no changes to the Nova Bomb. Instead, Bungie plans to enhance the class’ melee and grenade abilities via increasing the time they recharge. Voidwalker melees will also feel more “responsive,” as the energy drain effect will proc

Sounds pretty good overall I guess *shrug*. Not thrilled about my Mida taking a little nerf. And not sure a nerf was really needed for high ROF AR's.

Got the amaze roll dis-47, it's at gunsmith this week perfect balance, hand laid, (100 stability) full auto. Still no Mida as expected. I guess just another contender on the pile of Dis 43 and 47 rolls I have.

I still dont think I can adjust to full auto, it seems to hurt my aim (when you pull the trigger is kind of when I readjust aim on to the head if that makes any sense), but I feel like it's needed for fastest ROF scouts otherwise you wont be able to get max DPS. With Dis 47 non-full auto I sort of psyche myself out "gotta pull trigger super fast!" before every encounter. Not cool.

Good crucible matches mostly though tonight. Started with 18-5, 15-3 (!). I'm around 850 kills short still, but at least over IB I was able to smash the 1k barrier.

im more intrigued by the new strike where

"Fallen captain become taken"

  • despite that fallen captain already killed by guardians for countless times and guardians also already got the bounty from the queen.
  • despite dead people cannot be taken.
This means, Malock have muuuuuuuuuuuuch more power than Oryx. Because he/she can transform dead people into taken. But why is its Oryx that become the Taken King instead of him/her?

so many intriguing story!

and NONE of them will be in the game! mwahahahah! all of them will be hidden nicely in the grimoire text mwahahahaha.

So glad snipers are being hit and fusions are buffed. I think the ARs are not balanced, so this should help. Low rate ARs are inferior to fast ones without any good reason. I wasn't clear if focused fire was getting a buff, or just on the Seros Regime. I just want to see more variety in PvP instead of the same 3-5 weapons over and over.

I got whacked by a few fusions last night too, I guess people jumping the gun, TBH it was pretty annoying just like snipers! It's a one hit kill but from a longer more annoying range than shotguns.

But I guess it's time for fusions to shine a bit, something different.

I do like Bungie's strategy of nerfing (most) everything when balancing. While it bugs me in practice, I know the theory is good, keeps time to kills longer which is what I want. The nerfs/buffs they are doing now are amazingly targeted, which I guess is a tribute to their incredible underlying weapons system.

Since I've run exclusively sniper for a while will be interesting how bad they're nerfed.
