Destiny 2

Dato's thoughts. I've been waiting for these

He says it's more, improved, Destiny. Dont expect sweeping changes. That was obvious from the videos IMO. Gunplay is basically the same.

Unlike me he's very happy with the visual upgrade, thinks it looks fantastic, especially on 4K PC, which he raved about.

The Strike was basically like current strikes. Better than a year 1 strike but like a Taken King strike.

For PVP, he notes it's slowed down a lot. No more Titan skating or Warlock skating. He thinks Bungie didn't intend these and it screwed up their balance. Also, all the guns do less damage, which means a longer TTK. I'm all for it.

I noticed the hand cannon was hitting for less, so I had picked up on that, but I didn't know if it had something to do with multiple primary slots having different power levels or a different archetype or what. But now it's confirmed.

Also the Supers now take more damage from similar elemental, so if you pop a solar super, you will take more damage from a solar primary.

He thinks heavy will be toned down now that it's in one "power weapon" slot along with things like shotguns. Makes sense.

As already noted it seems like Int/Disc/Strength is no longer in the game. Not sure what I think of this as it does dumb down armor speccing. It seems like another ,move to casual-ify the game. OTOH reduced ability cooldowns are sorely needed (but they could have done that without removing I/D/S) and the system was kinda annoying. I talked about transmog but, no Int/Disc/Str stats would sorely reduce the need for it (you'd just have to worry about perks), maybe that was one of Bungie's goals.

Power ammo only spawns for the one player who gets it. In addition, the screen tells other players who got the power ammo and what they got.

I dont know much about Halo but from what I do know, it seems Bungie is just copying the Halo "power weapon" formula now.

Reddit wont be happy about slower TTK's, but, F reddit. Go play COD if you want fast TTK.

I'm also thinking 4v4 was a way to reduce lag because there was so much bitching about it. If so, another case of the community ruining the game...

I also hope hand cannons are YET AGAIN not the only viable primary in crucible. And I'm eager to see how bad they treated hunters. We already got screwed in the sense Titans and Warlocks got entirely new supers, and we got essentially the same exact thing again. So right away Bungie is off to a typical start, Hunters screwed.

nobody tried to play the game without following the "bungie vision"?

Destiny vanilla was pretty lax and accomodating for player's creativity, but bungie keeps patching those out. I wonder how about D2. Even more canned? more freedom?

Dev interview
"IGN: "Why did you make that decision. You're like 'We're going to lock it at 4K/30 max on consoles.' Is it just like, you don't want to push the consoles too hard, or why do you make that choice?"

Luke Smith: "I mean, I'm going to wade into this, and you [Mark Noseworthy] can flesh it out. The console, the PS4 Pro is super powerful, but it couldn't run our game at 60. Our game's this rich physics simulation where collision of players, networking, etc, and like, it wouldn't run."

IGN: "Yeah, makes sense."

Luke Smith: "Not enough horsepower there."

Mark Noseworthy: "But there's tons of GPU power in the PS4 Pro. That's why we're doing 4K, right? It's on the CPU side. Destiny's simulation, like we have more AI, more monsters in an environment with physically simulated vehicles and characters and projectiles, and it's part of the Destiny magic, like that, like 30 seconds of fun, like coming around a corner and throwing a grenade, popping a guy in the head, and then you add like 5, 6, 7 other players in a public event; that is incredibly intensive for hardware."

Although I'm excited to try the beta, what I got from the reveal is that they are going way too safe with this. Hopefully this is just a case of what it looks like and not what it actually is.

well, I do feel that it isnt a true sequel as so much looks the same, including animation, same enemies, same subclasses and classes, similar menus etc, in fact one could mistake it for D1 footage any day and not know BUT I had goosebumps watching the whole event and the strike footage feels very very Raid like which I like. :D
I cannot judge how the new weapon system will feel and the new supers feel boring except for the flash in the Warlock's new super which is just his old super+flying. I am definitely bummed about that part. No new class and the new subclasses feel the same, but then there is a third ability, oter than grenade and super for all that will change the flow of the whole game.
I do not like that PvP is all 4v4. WIll make everything Trials like and tense and no more chaotic modes to just jump in and reap fun !

Another apsect I Do not like is the new weapon design and sounds: They sound and look too military kind and NOT at all like the sci-fi+fantasy exotic feel of D1. Thats a major disappointment for me ! I do not want to feel like COD or BF in Destiny and Weapons and armour design was a major Major factor why Destiny felt so amazing while playing ! I mean the new weapons are SMGs, Grenade Launchers and Gattling GUns ?!?!?!?WTF ! How is that Destiny scifi fantasy future !???

It feels like a better oiled machine rather than a new machine. But then the strike looked so fun that I feel like buying it again ! BUt I really really wished the classes were completely rejigged, completely new, otherwise whats the point of a new start!

Questions:
Will we have three subclasses each? or 4? or 2?
IS the Bubble gone ? or is it a selectable ability? Zavala still had it, I want mine too if I am still the same titan and not a new breed of Guardian !
Same for SUnsinger and Arcblade etc. WHats the deal?

Probably old powers will be back in the first dlc? Or at least whenever we finally break the light barrier.

Anyway, I also thinks the games feels too similar to D1. Even call of duty and halo are not this similar between versions.

The visual quality also all over the place. Looks like crossgen game. I think bungie reused too much of their old low quality assets.

I mean.. Flat sprite flames? Flat rocks? Obvious Repeated textures?

It seems the new thing in visual is the "shiny" or "wet" effects and the physics animation (like for the cloak)

Finally took a look at the trailer. Looks good. It's good to see they are copying more things from Warframe like the interplay between weapons and abilities. For example, they showed what appears to be one player shooting through the shield of another player and the shield looks to be enhancing the bullets that are passing through it (like Volt's shield). Also looks like melee and movement might be improved in a similar way to Warframe for at least one of the classes. Introduction of some more interesting powers as well.

It's still not going to hold a candle to Warframe WRT variety of customization, combat and mechanics, but it's definitely a good direction to be going in. And unlike Warframe or the first Destiny this one appears to actually have focused on telling a good story. There's something to be said for sparse and emergent storytelling (like Dark Souls), but that just didn't work for Destiny. I'm looking forward to this.

Regards,
SB

the community stuff is really good this time. people like me should also get to play more nightfalls. people will rage quit but people will also bond.
Not interested much in the raid anymore. They made it too mechanical from taken king onwards... feels like work.
it will more of "lets see what it is and if i like it" than "OMG lets raid!"

Story missions will be better and more halo like for sure. i just hope there is a story playlist too. Thats easy pve content they don't let us play for some reason.
as for classes....man this is D2 ...classes should have been new and if not then aesthetically revamped atleast. They look exactly the same.

there should have been a clear diff between a D1 titan/w/H and a D2 one in the looks at least. The Traveller captured, tower amd city destroyed and we still wear the same spic and span armour !!!!? wtf . It should have been ragtag pieces we gather from the remains or stuff made by hand by survivors etc. A clearly more rugged, down jn the dirt warrior! we still look like brand new toys from a factory.

At least this much was needed for it to look like D2. Right now u cannot tell if its d1 or D2 gaurdian, and thats not good.
Same for weapons. where is such new weaponry coming from? hakke/omolon where would they produce this stuff? Designs should change accordingly. We should look like nomad warriors with no home rather than the same polished shining guys and girls. Just that touch and it would look like a true sequel.

obviously so much to say because i like it a lot but its again a half done kind of a thing.A revamped D1 for sure.

BUT it looks so fun ;) so.....I have complaints, but it will be played. Just an attention to audio visual aesthetics could have elevated it into a true sequel territory.

Add to that we are coming from a vanilla game + 4 expansions: anything they shell out will feel little ! I hope Bungie is aware of that and does not give us 4-5 strikes and asks us to be happy. We are used to multiple POE activites now and a long strike playlist. We want that if all old content is going away.

DF takes a early look. Video only . They cover the basics. First time I noticed the "Strike looks like a raid" comments being true. Some effects are better, (the fusion grenade animations are much more detailed it seems) overall the game seems more cartoony, softer, and more pastel to me, a bit more like Overwatch. Definitely looks better, but not immensely so. They discuss the idea of the engine being able to make content easier which I've harped on since I think it explains everything about the way Destiny has been handled. They mention base PS4 is 1080P. I am wondering if XB1 can keep up with full 1080P, but the game doesn't look so amazing it would seem to be impossible.

It may be entirely possible this go around they may push ps4 for 1080p to max out, and XBO might be where we naturally sitting at 900p 30% behind. They've no reason not to. Last generation consoles held back the graphics for Destiny 1; with those removed, targeting PS4 as base spec becomes natural, especially given their marketing agreement.

Interesting to note that Bungie can't speak to Destiny on XBOX until the conference, which is fine, but I also don't expect to see them presenting on MS stage either. So I'm not entirely sure what that means, perhaps that the data points around XBOX configurations won't be revealed until after the conference (?).

I can only assume the Scorpio/4Pro editions will do their best to achieve PC settings on ultra with the resolution they can best maintain it at.

The heavy usage of gpu particles, volumetrics and reflections seem to be more gpu dependent this time, maybe 900p on Xbone S or less? I can see CB 4k on the Pro and native 4k on Scorpio at high settings in the end. That HomeComing missing does look quite bit better than the rest of other modes.

I think everyone needs to relax and wait until the full game is released. Most of the footage shown was from a strike or PVP. The only campaign footage that was shown (HomeComing mission) was very brief, and IMO, pretty impressive. Not the most impressive looking game I've seen, but it shits on anything we've seen in D1 -- both cinematic wise, and visually speaking. Lighting, set pieces, cinematics, particle effects etc., it's just WAY better than anything we've seen in the first game, and it boggles my mind that people think it looks the same.

Sure the gunplay, animations and movement look very similar, but those were never issues with D1. I've never played the older Halo games, but everyone that I know who has, and most people in the Destiny community all agree that Bungie knows how to make good feeling shooters, and that D1 has arguably the best movement and gunplay out of any shooter out there, so it's a good thing that Bungie didn't drastically change this. The fact that everyone who played D2 at the event said that D2 feels just like D1 brings a smile to my face.

Destiny is the most polarizing game I've ever seen; it gets so much hate, yet it is still one of the biggest games of this generation. If you didn't like the first game, then chances are you're not going to like D2. Based on what was shown so far, D2 looks like a much more refined version of the first, and more inline with what Bungie envisioned from the start. Destiny always had loads of potential, but D1 never quite hit the mark (especially early on).

Destiny is a very social game. I feel that a lot of people that hate on the game play solo, which is understandable. But Destiny is definitely best experienced with friends. I feel that the new clan and built-in 'guided games' systems will help a lot with solo players. Playing Destiny with friends (especially raids) is like no other gaming experience I've had. The experiences I've had playing with friends in D1 basically ruined other games for me... it's hard for me to play anything else, and is why I literally haven't touched anything else since D1 came out.

I just hope the whole homecoming mission wasn't running on ultra on PC or something. Cos it looked fabulous with all its particles and rain and lights !

It was running on PS4 (most likely Pro). I think there's a noticeable difference between that and the strike/PVP footage because of the setting, set pieces and cinematics. I'm sure the campaign will be head and shoulders better than D1. What they showed there in those few minutes is already WAY better than anything in D1.

yea i guess only the DF footage is from the base ps4. The playable event was on Pro but i guess all that was shown on stage must have been PC just to showcase it in its best looking avatar. Did they mention it was a ps4?
TBH, D1 looked so good already it can only look better.

All the streamers that were at the event that I spoke to got confirmation that the campaign footage was running on PS4. They got to play it but were not allowed to capture it.
