Destiny 2

I refuse to give them another $40. I'm already $90 in, I've had enough. Keep taking our money to fix their broken ass game.

I have the exact same issue. I can't bring myself to give Bungie my money. It is really the first developer that managed to bring me to this point. I don't even care about them fixing it later or not and that the game wasn't good in the beginning. Well, I enjoyed D2 and got a lot of value out of it.

But the fact that they on purpose put in XP throttle while displaying higher numbers on screen to make people buy more loot boxes is imo a criminal act and every other business would get punished by law for such a move. Just think about it: there was a paid developer, that sat down and implemented a system that on purpose "silently" throttles down XP gain, to increase the incentive to buy more loot boxes. This is not a mistake, this is not an accident. This was fully planned, officially ordered during a meeting and finally implemented at Bungie. Did no Bungie developer ever raise their voice and said that this is not right?

I liked D2, Forsaken looks good to me. But giving money to a criminal developer is a bit too much to ask right now.

It seems that I need more time to forget what Bungie did and what they stand for...

So would anybody recommend this for a newbie whose mostly a solo player? I played D1 a little and the beta but I never felt the need to really immerse myself in the game. Always felt the game was solid but the lack of a robust single player story with all the cutscene trimmings made me a bit indifferent.

Also I like loot based game but all the complaints around D2 loot mechanic definitely turned me off to the title.

Should I jump in or still stay away? I’m looking for something new.

Vanilla Destiny 2's story was ok (far better than D1)
Osiris was meh.
Warmind was ok.
Forsaken is good and their best work to date in Destiny IMO.

The loot system is very good now. Random rolls have returned and there are a lot of unique armor sets and weapons that drop from specific activities (and there are a lot of activities). I believe the built in collections tab in the menu tells you where to obtain these items. Exotic items are extremely rare now and can drop doing anything in the game, which is a very nice change from how Destiny was for years.

I'd say for a solo player, Forsaken has plenty of content to keep you busy. But the main draw for Destiny has always been coop/multiplayer.

So I'd say for a solo player, it's definitely worth a try. If you're looking for a coop looter shooter, D2 is currently one of the best and is highly recommended.

Yep I mainly play solo and D2 is good enough.

Just remember to think destiny 2 as a linear game than an open world game tho. As so many stuff must be done linearly (except a few where you go from mission story mode to quest mode or when on roamijgtpatrol mode) and the gameplay also be done linearly (encounter have phase a b c d, to win you must to phase a b c d or risk glitch ing the game and can't finish), including the engagement strategy (you found a vantage point? Invisible wall. You brought a tank all the way to boss room? Here a stupid ledge for no reason. Etc)

Destiny to go free to play in new leak...

  • The core game will be renamed to Destiny 2: New Light

  • Once Shadowkeep launches on September 17th, the base game will go free-to-play and include "all year one content, including "foundational modes, activities and rewards.""

  • "This represents a change for the Destiny franchise as it seeks to lure gamers away from popular free titles like Fortnite. Previously, players paid upfront for the game and bought big expansions to gain access to new raids, missions and in-game items, either separately or as an annual pass subscription. Now, the core game will stay free, while additional content will be made available in the form of paid "à la carte" offerings like Shadowkeep."

  • Going forward, no more content will be made exclusive to one platform over others. All platforms will have the same access to all content at the same time

  • Cross-save will be added for Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia. No PS4 support for now

  • Soon, the game will move from Battle.net to Steam on PC. Existing players willbe able to migrate all characters and purchases over to the Steam version once this happens
