Dark Souls

One of the NPC's defending the forest. What's weird is, I haven't been able to find him even now that they have stopped attacking me. He is probably one of the almost invisible one's though.

Is he the knight ? or the thief-like character ? Only these 2 are invisible in my game. The knight gives 3000 souls, but he has gone missing somehow.

In my opinion it is usually this rule:
stay as close as possible and try to always move to the back of the enemy -keep in mind that some enemy have an extra "back" attack! But I have encountered some mini bosses in the Darkroot Garden that make me fear the later boss even more (I had not the bravery to cross the mist, as soon I saw "boss here" I backtracked :)

Cheers!

Yeah the
merry men in that forest
used to laugh at me. Now I can kill them relatively easily except for that
invisible knight.

How many hours have people played this for so far?

I'm about 56 hours in.

Now hopelessly sidetracked to make my own weapons. Also upgrading my pyro skills to max it out. Plus stocking up on supplies (Oh arrows, mosses, magazines and what not). I should really get back on track.

~120 hours thus far, a lot of it spent on personal in-game projects.

In a very real sense, I have no intention to end the game. ^_^

This game mixed up my life a little. I think it got the "role playing" part right. What does a truck driver, salesman, student, dancer, etc. do when (s)he's the destined hero to save the world ? No, he doesn't just walk there to beat the bosses. (S)he has to toughen up, survive, do a lot of prep work, talking to folks, gathering resources, get help, etc. to even the odds. That's what I'm doing now. :p

He is an archer, although the guide says he also has a Falchion.

The knight also disappeared when I first killed him. I found him in a different spot after I had joined Alvina's covenant.

Odd, according to the guide,
Pharis is invisible but I only saw 2 invisible enemies in the forest: The Thief and the Knight. I have 3 visible enemies (Cleric, Shaman and a falchion dude). All are worth 2000 souls, the knight's 3000, and the falchion dude is only worth 1000 souls.
He doesn't drop anything for me either. Guess I will have to scout further (Thought I had cleared out the area).

Thanks for your replies, Cornsnake and patsu!

Yesterday evening I found a third mist closed gate  . Of course, to reach that I had to beat several very hard hitting/fast moving enemies.

As faith is my highest stat, I prefer to use the
Crescent Axe (don't remember the exact name, was dropped after killing Patches), I have invested several twinkling thingies to upgrade it. I really miss the blessed weapons from Demon's Soul (and the shield that was healing you, my favorite shield by far), but that would've break the game balance, so it is obvious it is missing.
With that weapon those enemies were hard, but manageable.

*sigh*

But, as I re-joined a certain Covenant (but, now I am stick with those and left my favorite one (the original :) ), I beat the boss in
Darkroot Garden
, surprisingly easy (I had a much harder time, killing the normal enemies in
Tomb of the Giants). I am still missing two obvious things, what do I need to do to get to the mist areas (probably something like the Archdeamon mist in Demon's Souls) and what to do with the Abysswalker ring. If I do not find out today by my own, I'll try to read it up...

BTW, I had 70 hours before playing yesterday, so now I have something like 75 hours played.

Cheers...

You need ...
the Lordvessel from Anor Londo. Once you have that you have to talk to Kingseeker Frampt over at Firelink. This will trigger a cut-scene and open up the yellow mist gates. The Abysswalker Ring is needed for fighting The Four Kings in New Londo.

Found her.
Pharis. Just follow the cliff along the right side of the small building where Alvina is. She is also close to where the Knight reappears after you've killed him. It's the only bow with an S for the DEX stat bonus, so it should be good.

Is this game a fun online dungeon hack where you can co-op together and stuff ? Or is it mostly solo ?

Depends on how you build your character. You can be pretty beastly as soon as you hit SL 50 if you focus on health, endurance, elemental weapons and pyromancy. PVP covenants like the one in the forest also have no soul level range limitation. You might very well get to invade a SL 200 brute with your puny level 30 character. Also: don't ever use spears.

It is a brutally hard solo rpg with a very peculiar mp component. In terms of gameplay it's more of an action game than an rpg. Your stats don't mean anywhere near as much as your skill. Not the game if you are looking for a fun coop time, especially since you can't even choose with whom you want to play.

I think I've just fallen for one the game's tricks again.
I got pulled into the Painted World of Ariamis, and I don't know how to get back. There are few games out there would dare to put players through even half the stuff Dark Souls forces you to go through. Now it's into the frightening unknown again. :p

I think I'm getting close to SL 50 and I think my character is a pretty good PvP build so far. 30vit, 22end, fully upgraded pyro glove, 3 spell slots w/ chaos pyro spells. Im just not getting any invasions. :???:

I hear
Anor Londo
is a popular spot for invasions. And should be right around your SL.

So you maxed out
Queelaana's
pyroflame already ? It seems that you also have
Chaos Firestorm and Fireball from Daughter of Chaos
? Are there more pyro spells beside these ?

Cool ! I'll check out those spots.

I heard about that place. Once I'm done stocking up and upgrading, I should be able to deal with that event calmly.

Yes, maxed out reg fireballs do 400 damage I think. Fully upgraded glove and 2 greater pyro spells is more than enough to take out any boss. The Chaos spells are really powerful too even without humanity.

Got into some PvP in Anor Londo... some people are really cheap. Fought an invader who used the slow down spell and the fog ring. Talk about lame...
