Dark Souls

At first I used the magic falchion in 4-1, then I switched to the dragon sword in 2-2 for PvP. In end game, I used Soulbrandt, and then Northern Regalia. I also use the Sticky Compound Long Bow + 5 frequently.

In Dark Souls, I want to collect the
DragonSlayer bow
and a good sword. Haven't decided what sword yet.

I upgraded my Iaito to +6. Was told Iaito+10 can be forged into
Blade of Chaos with Quelaag's soul. I don't know what Divine weapon to make yet. May be an axe or a hammer to deal with the skeletons.

I finally rang the second bell tonight. Quelaag was pretty tough. Defeated her with Pyro spells and Black Knight's Sword barely. It was a race of who could tank and cause more damage per second. ^_^

Also completed Darkroot Garden. I don't know how people could beat Sif without magic or pyro. His attack is quick, and more devastating than Quelaag IMHO.

I guess I will attempt the Catacomb or Valley of Drakes next. We shall see.

EDIT: Once I get my Vit and End to 40, I will start throwing points at DEX because I like to use bows and DEX scaled weapons such as Iaito, Ucikatana and curved swords. I heard Shotel can bypass shield (because it's curved).

Fire is effective against Quelaag?

It can, but even then it only does half the damage of what's already a somewhat weak weapon.

Yap ! The guy who farmed until level 147 basically has not left
Darkroot Garden
since he arrived there.

I've begun to collect data on weapons. Am looking at the YouTube PvP videos to see what suits me:
e.g.,

They are dueling outside some boss area (fog door is on). Since there are no monsters and no identifiable traits about the location. I don't consider it a spoiler.

There's another good one about Pyromancer vs Others. It convinced me to add Pyro as my secondary attack. But I can't find it for the moment.

Does anyone know what weapon the invader is using? Also one of the players he invaded is doing backflips... how is he doing that? Also what sword is he using (the player doing backflips)

Looks like an Uchigatana or Iaito.

You mean the backflip @ 5:00 ? I think it's the usual back left stick + O when one locks on to an enemy.
He seems to be carrying a
Quelaag Furysword
.

EDIT:
I made an Iaito + 8, Divine Gargoyle Tail Axe + 5, and wield the regular Black Knight Sword.

Because of its weight and wide swing, the Black Knight Sword is the best for crowd control (Seems to be more than 180 degrees, great for reducing backstabbers). Has the most damage per regular hit.

The Iaito lacks weight but it's slightly faster, and deals the highest damage after successive hits (1/3 enemy HP). It has a B rating for DEX, which should scale well together with my bow.

The Divine Gargoyle Tail Axe seems to be the weakest. :(
It's supposed to offer 100% better protection against Poison and Bleed. But the interesting thing is every time you wield the weapon, it causes minor bleed, poison and toxin accumulation.

Anyway I'm ready for the
Catacomb !

Woah, reading up on the grain ring makes me want to join
Alvina's Covenant. does Shiva disappear if I quit the Covenant later ? As in, can I kill the Ninja after I join another Covenant ?

I'm not sure.
Both Shiva and the Ninja only appeared after I joined Alvina's covenant. They might disappear again if you leave.

So did you get the rings ?
Fog Ring and Grain Ring.

I joined Daughter of Chaos to get Quelaag's Chaos pyro spell, the one that leaves behind molten rock for extra damage.

I have the one ring.
The Fog Ring. I can see why people hate it. It turns you almost invisible and you can't be locked on to. It's apparently being nerfed in an upcoming patch. ( Together with weapon balancing which might be good for DEX builds.)

I don't have the Dark Wood Grain Ring. Attacking any of it's members will break the covenant. I'm tempted to do it though because I also missed the opportunity to kill Pharis for his bow before I joined. But I'll wait for now. It's fun to invade people with this covenant. And Shiva sells some good stuff. Uchigatana's. :D

Yeah, I think I will join
Alvina
after I level up all my pyro spells. In the mean time, Darkroot Garden is too fun to abandon for farming souls. I want the
Grain Ring ! By hook or by crook

Who is Pharis ?

How is everyone progressing? Is anyone in new game+ or ++ (Sigfried1977?)? I have read a few spoilers especially as I was unable to find someone I rescued earlier (BTW, even though I have been Yurted, it is nothing, IMO, what can happen here). Even though I am not even near Carls toughness and old-schoolness, I still do not want to read up every time I hit a wall (repeatedly, I must add, oh and while I am hitting the beforementioned wall, some scimitar wielding skeletons are hitting me just for fun).

I got to two areas (one high above and low below ;) ) where I encoutered the mist as in Demon's Souls so now, I think, I have only one area left (in the second I do not do any damage to the enemies, even not with holy weapons; so I am not counting that), where I was always like "you must be kidding me". *sigh* I am afraid even thinking about getting there and beating certain enemies.

But, one thing for sure the graphics+audio and, of course, the art direction are making a great atmosphere. Sometimes, I have to stop walking as I am afraid that a monster is getting behind me because my armour is making such an noise :) . Only the voice acting is below par, even though some excellent performances are noticable too.

BTW, anyone joined the
Blades of Darkmoon? I have found the ring but I am too dumb to activate it or something. Maybe because I am 90% playing hollowed? Please do not spoil it, I will re-check everything in new game+ anyway. Thanks :)
I am still (or again) with my original covenant, now thinking to switch it to pass the mentioned area
(Darkroot Garden)
much easier...

Cheers and good luck!

I'm SL 51 and I just defeated
the Iron Golem. I'm starting to see a recurring pattern with the bosses. They all have some very powerful attacks, but they are also very predictable. Find the right approach and stick to it, then you won't take many hits. I'm kinda hoping they break that pattern. I have yet to come across anything like the 3 notorious bosses of Demon's Souls. (FlameLurker, Maneaters, and the False King.)

In my opinion it is usually this rule:
stay as close as possible and try to always move to the back of the enemy -keep in mind that some enemy have an extra "back" attack! But I have encountered some mini bosses in the Darkroot Garden that make me fear the later boss even more (I had not the bravery to cross the mist, as soon I saw "boss here" I backtracked :)

Cheers!

Aye corumba!! We played another bout on Tuesday, and I noticed on loading we were 8 hours in. 4 hours a session seems about right. But clearly if this were to replace FIFA as our Tuesday night Fun it'd take the best part of a year to complete! We've completed some games hotseating it, like RFOM and Uncharted, but DS is way too big to be played that way.

Nah you could do it... believe me, the time I've put into it is well beyond what you would need to do. That said, it would certainly still take you a while probably, but I think each session could be rather constructive.

I'm 50 hours in. Also doing a lot of side stuff. Why have this big open world if you aren't going to explore it? Although I have the feeling that they would have l required me to go places I've already been anyway.

Yeah that, and they usual have a "I'll back away so you can heal" move.

I know the feeling, I've had plenty of "..... I'll just try that later" moments.
