Dark Souls

Patsu you're killing me here! I added the xbd-level spoiler tags. :p Hopefully the choices branch naturally and I don't have to now be overthinking engagements. ;)

Sorry bud, I made a judgment call. Getting you to think twice about killing special people and monsters does not sound like a bad idea, compared to missing out some treasures or quests. ^_^

The game has a lot of depth and side "stories" (Demon's Souls style). Enjoy !

How long did it take you guys to get into this game? I dunno I'm just not feeling it, and the dying is getting on my nerves :(

The first couple of hours were a bit rough for me, same with Demon's Souls, but once I managed to get my hand on slightly better gear it all came together and now I'm either playing the game or thinking about playing the game. Also worth noting is while the starting classes mean nothing in the long run, they do make a huge difference at the start. My current character started out as a thief, and it was just a huge pain. Then I made a knight character. So much easier. (still playing the thief character though)

I have another question. In Demon's Souls not every weapon had the same upgrade path. Is it the same for Dark Souls, or can I upgrade every standard weapon in every upgrade path?

More specifically, I'm looking to make a Divine weapon. Probably from a Long Sword or Falchion.

Preemptively I'm asking that the answer be in spoiler tags. Though, for my own part, I think that at least the long sword would probably be a 'yes.'
The option is open to me via the scimitar, and I wouldn't expect the scimitar to make it and not the long sword

I agree. With my starting scimitar, I felt like a walking stick of marshmallow in the game. I feel better with the new weapon now, until I see the next big guy. ^_^

From the tables in the guide, it looks like all standard weapons can be upgraded with prefixes (Chaos, Divine, blah).

I noticed that some weapons have higher level in certain prefix compared to other prefixes.
e.g., Weapon A is listed with +10 in Chaos, but only +5 in other types.

I am not sure what this means yet.

Like Demon's Souls, not all unique weapons can be upgraded.

Ahh, I started with a Sorceress, maybe that's why the game has been making me feel homicidal. I actually put it in my car to go return it today, it's just been so brutally frustrating to play but maybe I'll start over with a Knight. I do really hate how far back it puts you though when you die :( You really have to redo stuff over and over again, something I'm generally not a fan of anymore.

Thanks.
I suspected it would work that way after I couldn't find any mention of any limitation on the weapon upgrade paths.

Soul Level is 70-ish, and I recently finished Anor Londo and the Painted world. That boss duo in Londo was tough as hell.

Wow, so far away from me. T_T

I'm at the
Depths.
And level 29 I think. I still want to try a few things before moving on.

Where are you, and at what level?

I'm level 27.

Still in Undead Burg. With the Drake Sword. I now one-hit all the grunts. Probably grinded too far to take on Havel with a scimitar. ^_^ I might try to kill the Black Knight at the top of the tower and then shoot the dragon just so I don't have to come back here later. Let's see.

About my new Divine Scimitar and it's effectiveness.
If you look up fail in the dictionary you can see a picture of it. It does about 100 magic damage for a little less normal damage. Put together that actually makes it perform worse since all the enemies seem to be rather well resistant to magic. It even ruined the Dex stat bonus.

According to my weapon stats, scimitar damage scales with DEX. Does a Divine Scimitar scale better with DEX ?

EDIT: Ah I see your answer (You stealth edited didn't you ? :devilish:).
Fail it is

EDIT 2: According to my $25 guide, you should...

Upgrade the scimitar to Crystal, Lightning, Fire or Chaos. They all give higher physical damage, in addition to the secondary damage (fire, lightning, etc.).

Only the crystal scimitar retain the B DEX boost. ^_^ So it seems that crystal scimitar is the most powerful scimitar overall.

That divine scimitar of yours is going to come in handy as soon as you enter
The Catacombs
.
Just be glad you only used the Scimitar. I used the friggin' Laito for it.

The problem with
Crystal weapons is that they can break permanently
as far as I know. Can you at least repair them before it's too late?

Well,
none of those upgrade paths are available to me. And a Crystal weapon can't be repaired. So unless it's cheap to make, I doubt I'll used it often.

I still can't find place that's selling the guide. Not in stock they all say. :devilish:

I didn't know that
Crystal weapons cannot be repaired ! [throw down $25 guide]. What does Divine weapons do anyways ? Auto-heal ?

I know it's
supposed to help me kill the skeletons permanently. (Which why I made it.) But it does very little damage against the skeletons in the Firelink Shrine. I haven't upgraded it any further because I don't want to waste any more titanite on it. But then again, what else am I going to use for.

It doesn't auto-heal. It does have a little extra symbol on the weapon icon. But as far as I know it doesn't do anything.

In the
Catacombs
it
can stop the skeletons from being revived.

As far as I know
Crystal weapons can't be repaired before they break.

Wait... so you can repair a Crystal weapon *after* it broke ?

Sounds like I need to make a Divine weapon too. :-/

So the skeletons are immune to all secondary damages ? That sucks ! (in a good way)

What about a blunt weapon like a club or hammer ? I remember the Demon's Souls skeletons are vulnerable to them due to hmmm... critical hit or something else ?
