@Sigfried1977: I spoiler-tagged some of your last post just because that's how sensitive to info I am in these "pure experience" gaming situations. Granted it wasn't necessarily information I wasn't already familiar with anyway... lucky for you! By the way, have you gotten through the game yet or are you still working your way through the first play through? Don't answer that question with specific locations by the way if your answer is the later.
I might have gone into a little too much detail, but I don't really consider it a spoiler to point out just how busted From's weapon stat balancing in Dark Souls really is. (it's bad enough in PVE, but it's completely ****ed in PVP, even without the glitchers who ruin the fun for everyone else as usual)
Also no, I'm not finished with it yet. Kinda hit a wall actually and have no idea where to go next.
Didn't the guide or the messages on the floor tell you about it. I suppose you can always pick it up later.
I finally got one of those
Black Knight
weapons. It's not the sword I wanted, but it's a very powerful weapon regardless. Now if only I had the stats to use it. But I'm not sure I want to put my souls towards that particular stat right now.
Messages on the floor wished me good luck and reminded me to backstab him. I only check the guide when I'm stuck. I shall read up on Drake Sword upon your beckoning.

I got a good sword from him, but don't have the stats to wield it yet. I think I'm about 6 levels away.
I looked up Havel's loot and immediately appreciate the dream that I could use the black knight's sword without over-burdening myself. ^_^
I think the easiest way to deal with Havel is to unequip every last piece of equipment except for your weapon of choice in order to get under that 25% weight limit. If he hits you it's over for you anyway this early in the game, so it's preferable to be as fast as possible here. Keep your distance and bait him into swinging , then just roll straight towards him when you see the starting animation for swinging, all while being locked on. Rolling grants a bit of invincibility, and when you time it right you'll end up either next to him or right behind him (timing is fairly easy here and his swinging hit box is far enough away from this body). He's slow to recover from his beastly weapon swings so just get your backstab in.
As for the messages that ought to point you toward the Drake sword: they are not going to be by the big ass knight unless someone is trying to mess with you. It should be under the bridge where the dragon is.
Oh, and if memory serves me right that Black Knight Greatsword requires a whooping 32 points in strength unless you are planning on going the two handed route.

I am 1 point more than my 25% weight limit. I have to take my ring or shield off to make it under 25%. Unfortunately sometimes I did get careless and got hit partially. The shield helped to offset a partial hit. Not so sure about the
Blue Tearstone Ring
.
Comstedt's technique is the most stable because of how the lock-on works.
You stick close to the enemy so that you don't have to run too much to backstab. It's a little hard to explain but the lock-on mechanism will make sure Havel swing around you to avoid body collision (I am too close to him)
nice to read all of those comments here. Thanks for the spoiler tags.
I read about humanity on the wiki as I was so confused for what is it good for as I saw no reason to use it at all (except for certain bonfire upgrades). But so far I manage to get around with almost always staying double undead .
I am amazed about the improvement of the graphics, I am only disappointed that the framerate is so unsteady. IMO, the writing is way below DS, I am especially annoyed by the constant laughing of the NPCs (IIRC, only one character I have encountered does not do it, but I have probably not heard everything he has to say, yet) at the end of the sentences, should that be tension building? Pointing towards that all are near complete madness? In my case it does not work, it is only immersion breaking for me. Did any of you catch those many references to DS? From the first NPC we encounter (compare him to the blue soldier in DS) to mentioning of a sneaky salesman...
The more I look at the surrounding, the more I feel I haven't seen anything yet, beat a few tougher enemies/bosses
Taurus, Gargoyle, the thing near the blacksmith, the giant rat and the dragon in the depths with the help of an kind soul, a great trap in the gardens where two knights and several treemen attacked at the same time
, but now it is getting harder . Yesterday I was too tired to play, tonight I plan to play at least an hour or so...
BTW, thanks for the Machinima video, I laughed until I cried in one part, I am glad that I saw it even tough it spoiled one new enemy I did not yet saw for me. But it was worth it!
Never managed to be summoned so I stopped trying and did not see that any of my messages got an recommendation (or is it that when I get an additional flask all the sudden? Even though it still stay 0 when I look at the message overview).

I try to make a habit of putting my soul sign down in levels I've already beaten to boss on. That way I don't have to stand around and wait, letting me do something useful instead, and still get summoned every now and then.
I've left a message that has stayed in place for days. Yet still no recommendations. I've recommended messages myself, but it's a bit of an unnecessary hassle to do. You'll have to have and equip the orange soap stone yourself to recommend a message. I can see why most people wouldn't bother.
