Dark Souls

Liar ! I don't believe anyone could outrun that thing.

See the fire to your right ? Lure the boar there while running up the stairs. You'll have BBQ pork after a few times.

Sounds like Dogboar is soon to be on the menu! I shall tell my tale 2mora, hopefully the ribs will go down a treat!

I've left a message that has stayed in place for days. Yet still no recommendations. I've recommended messages myself, but it's a bit of an unnecessary hassle to do. You'll have to have and equip the orange soap stone yourself to recommend a message. I can see why most people wouldn't bother.

I recommend messages fairly often, just to help set a precedent hopefully, but you're right - the scene is fairly dead. Equipping the item and using is a bit more cumbersome than the past iteration, where it was easy enough that everyone felt comfortable writing and recommending all over the place. I also prefer the actual messages from the last one. "Praise the Sun!" is great and all, but what about something as incredible as "The Demon's Souls Starts Here!"

I haven't seen an interesting message so far.

Things like:
Novice players should go here
It is safe here (to mark an inch of safe/glitch spot is a life saver) :devilish:
Behind you !

.. are all informative in Demon's Souls.

Okay, just to be sure I'm on the right path.

I am stocking up on heavy arrows now.

I ran over to Hellkite to test my strategy.

So basically:
(1) Go underneath the bridge. I can see the dragon's tail. Use arrow to drop its tail first.
(2) Then go back up to snipe at his head until he dies.

Problem is:
(A) My arrow only takes down 8 points. Does the dragon becomes more vulnerable when its tail is cut off ?
(B) By my rough calculation, it will take 250 - 300 arrows to kill the dragon. Is there an easier way ? ^_^

There is a glitch which works for some..
Go to the tower with knight on top (near the stairs with boar), if dragon is visible from there you can shoot it dead with single arrow.
I couldn't get the dragon visible from the tower, but some say it appeared for them after a couple of tries.

The wiki says that by doing this you won't get the Drake Sword. So make sure you shoot the tail first to get the Drake Sword, and only then try to kill it.

No, I've yet to kill it.

I just lost 3 people that summoned me to the same trap/enemies. This game really needs a "stop being such an idiot" gesture. I guess they'll find out just how punishing Dark Souls can be.

How did you get the
Drake Sword
?

Good thing arrows don't count towards your equip weight anymore. I plan to level up my DEX one more time and then go after
Hellkite
. May try jlippo's approach before I go for the tedious way.

Pepper his tail with arrows until you get the sword. 40s arrow should do, but bring more in case you miss. The game simply gives you the sword. No need to go out and collect it. A for the rest: Just let him be and come back with a better bow would be my advice. He's only worth a couple of souls anyway and you can take a short-cut around him a bit later too. Alternatively you could try shooting him from the top of the tower behind him if you feel a bit cheap. One arrow is all it takes. I did this on accident so clear conscience here

All you really need to do is shoot the Dragons tail. It'll fall off long before the Dragon dies, giving you the Drake Sword. You don't even need worry about where the tail falls off, a message will appear saying you received the Drake Sword after it falls, and then you'll find it in your inventory.

Have you guys joined any covenants yet other than the initial option? I never did join 'Way of White' and I just want to be sure that doing so wasn't some sort of trigger for the game to make other paths available through NPCs and such. I would have thought that some of the NPCs I'm dealing with would present as gateways, but maybe I'm still too early in the game(?)

PS - If you have joined any cool factions, please just speak generally rather than providing any specifics as to names, locations, or anything like that. :) I just more than anything want to make sure that I shouldn't go ahead and join Way of White as some sort of gateway to another layer of the game.

How long did it take you guys to get into this game? I dunno I'm just not feeling it, and the dying is getting on my nerves :(

I haven't joined any covenants. I also haven't found any other covenants beyond the Way of White.

Having played Demon's Souls it didn't take me long to get into Dark Souls. Playing Demon's Souls for the first time was a different story though. I died quite a few times, and used the DS wiki and a guide to learn the things Demon's Souls didn't explain. Which is quite a lot. After a while I figured out how to play, and became a lot easier. In fact when I started new character the first levels were incredibly easy. I imagine it's the same for Dark Souls.

The best thing you can do is learn the enemy attack patterns, knowing when to defend and when to strike. The game is a lot more about memorising everything the game can throw at you, then actual skill.

Thanks Cornsnake, I trust then that I haven't been subject to a glitch and should find them eventually without cause for present concern.

Yeah I think you'll see more covenant activities later in the game. I took a quick glance at the guide the other day. Some are rather obscure. You'll have to look hard.
In one or two cases, if you killed a boss -- optional or otherwise -- who happened to be a key figure of that covenant, that covenant may close shop ! The game may or may not tell you the relationship of these bosses with the covenants though.

I watched many Demon's Souls YouTube videos before plunging in. Already had a good idea how to get the basic survival gears. So the game clicked with me from the get go.

If you're half hearted, I doubt the game will appeal to you. It requires full attention and lot's of commitment. The game is not that hard if you manage your enemies well.

Remember the newbie CoD player I mentioned last page ? He took leave today and I can see he's playing Dark Souls as we speak. XD

Thank you people. I have buttoned down
Havel with Drake Sword
. Also leveled up twice. I will continue the campaign and take on
Channeler
next.

Patsu you're killing me here! I added the xbd-level spoiler tags. :p Hopefully the choices branch naturally and I don't have to now be overthinking engagements. ;)

Had a nice break-out session today - busted into some new areas, found some enticing items, got invaded twice; died the first time, beat back the second one. I'm trying to spend more time in human form now... it's more conducive to multiplayer action. Joined some games and had some ppl join me as well. Accidentally fell down a hole and had the tension of not knowing where I was and fighting frenetically to reach a campfire. Found one - but still haven't found the way out! Good times...
