I'm very butch. You are so brave
Seagate won't be happy if they had a exclusivity deal with MS. Of course MS will likely be able to pay off any likely penalties Seagate should impose if there is a break with a exclusivity deal, but with all the money MS have it's likely no a big deal.
I don't see the PS5 option driving down SSDs prices. Can't really expect a ton of console gamers to pop open their PS5s to install M.2 SSDs. It's a process that amounts to way more than unloosening a screw and popping in some batteries. Its probably why MS went the route they took with Seagate.
The PS4 was significantly more steps and way more complicated including having to download specific files and stick into the correct folder on a compatible USB...and that's all before we consider the backing up of saves and syncing of trophies (etc!)
Oh god I forgot about that! What a humongous pain and waste of time it was!The PS4 was significantly more steps and way more complicated including having to download specific files and stick into the correct folder on a compatible USB...and that's all before we consider the backing up of saves and syncing of trophies (etc!)
Is that why some PS5 games won't work with PS4 game saves?

Never heard of that game saves generally don't work from PS4. As far as I know there was just one game that specified that the PS5 version of the game had a complete different game ID and therefor it could not access PS4 game saves. Is that why some PS5 games won't work with PS4 game saves?
I'd forgotten that I I upgraded my PS4 drive twice and PS4 Pro drive once. Naturally when you're adding to the install system drive you don't need to faff around installing the OS. Not to mention the other faffing of backing up from the old drive and restoring to the new one - for those of us with rubbish internet connections. The PS4 was significantly more steps and way more complicated including having to download specific files and stick into the correct folder on a compatible USB...and that's all before we consider the backing up of saves and syncing of trophies (etc!)
The number of people who "upgraded" was presumably fairly significant for Insomniac to low-ball the max I/O bandwidth in Spider-Man at 40% of what these stock drive was capable of.Well, in the interest of hard facts, it would be great to know the percentage of gamers who installed a new HDD on their PS4/Pros. If we don't know that number, then we can only speculate about how many may be looking to upgrade their SSD.
Also if you wanted to move your games to the new HDD, you have to first back it up onto a seperate HDD with enough space for your games then once you have installed the new OS on the new HDD, you can restore the games back onto the new HDD.? No idea, I'm unaware of what PS4 saves won't work on PS5 outside of the games that are getting free upgrades? If you have PS+ all your saves can be backed up to the cloud - but I was just saying that if moving to a new HDD on PS4 (and not having PS+) it was an additional step.
Hello Warriors!
Today, we are happy to announce that For Honor will be headed to next-generation consoles. We can now confirm our next-gen backward compatibility and are very excited to provide, through it, an enhanced For Honor experience to next-gen players as we enter this new chapter for the gaming industry.
Below is all you need to know about For Honor and its Next Gen plan!
GRAPHICAL ENHANCEMENTS AVAILABLE AT LAUNCH OF NEXT GEN CONSOLES
Next-gen console players will be able to experience the highest-level of graphical enhancements that For Honor has to offer. These enhancements, carried over from the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro are now available, without compromises, on all next-gen consoles:
- Improved Water Reflections
- Improved Distance Level of Detail
- Improved Shadow Resolution
- Improved Texture Filtering
- 4k Resolution (Xbox Series X, PS5) / 1080 p (Xbox Series S)
OH MY GOD I'd also completely forgotten I had to do this, twice (Base and Pro), and this is what took hours to complete!! I'd removed that bad memory completely. I also went for a 2TB. Again, this SSD upgrade will be a walk in the park. Also if you wanted to move your games to the new HDD, you have to first back it up onto a seperate HDD with enough space for your games then once you have installed the new OS on the new HDD, you can restore the games back onto the new HDD.
I moved from my 500GB HDD to a 2TB HDD. Best decision ever.
With the PS5, I won't even have to replace my 825GB SSD and just buy extra space with a new 1/2TB NVMe SSD.
Significantly a lot less steps than the PS4.
I suppose it depends on your internet connection. I think I was on 100Mbps then as I am now(or I was on 10Mbps ADSL) but 400+GB will still take some time. The backup and restore process is a lot better in that regards.Redownloading everything was so much easier.
I don't think that has being confirmed for PS5 games. For now it's confirmed only for PS4 games using an external storage. The main difference is that in the PS4 your replacing the whole system drive, whereas in PS5 you add storage. Its a much simpler process already there.
Btw, saw the first PS5 commercial yesterday (sweden).
