close look of NV40

I think this is the ultra version, non-ultra could use a more decent heatsink and only consume 1 slot maybe.

Woah! Is it me or is that a Three slot cooler ? Not only does it more than double the height of the card, do you need to allow for space around the intake fan? Or is it making use of the fact that AGP cards face down, and the PCI cards underneat will face up, giving a fraction more room in most cases?

What are you talking about. PCI and AGP cards face the same way.

One thing that will make the home theater crowd happy is the silicon image chip. That means the NV40 support HDCP/HDMI/DVI.

Even so, I still think it will require more than one slot open next to it to provide for adequate air flow.

I know if I had one in my case I sure would. I already leave a slot open for my 9800xt and this thing is twice as big and likely to be much hotter.

Wow! I i had guesstimated the cooler at nearly 2 slots, but this is way taller than i expected. I don't know which is worse dustbuster mark1 or this.

You might be able to squeeze in one of those USB port brackets that come with many motherboards, in which case it's a better design.

As Joe said a while back, I don't really care that it takes up 2 (maybe 3?) slots, but the fact that it needs a cooling solution like this is what frightens me. This thing has got to pump *a lot* of heat out, and the report that some unknown card (probably this) made a system halt after 20-25 minutes of game play does not bode well. It seems watercooling would probably be a very good idea with this card.
