I think its ugly. But i dont care, i do care about the controller though, wich doesnt look nice at all.

And i heard they are going with the silver one for launch, they had different colors at E3 to analyze reactions, seems like the silver one won. So that black one, yeah all shiny looks cool, but there wont be any at launch apparently. Ah ya know how it works, Sony is already thinking about revisions.

I totally agree with plus !
Plus I like the PS3 controller its seems more ergoomic than PS1 and PS2 controllesm But I was disappointed becuse of this : only if they replace R2 and L2 by 2 shoulders a la dreamcast (for racing games, or GTA for example...) It will be the best controller ever created...

Are you trying to twist things? The design is ugly, but the Shiny black is cool, the COLOR not the design. + It will not be available at launch, so the whole system will look ugly, because the color even makes that design uglier.

Jesus. Whats up with people around here of latelly?

Even with triggers the controller would be bad, the shape of it sucks (all banana shaped controller should just die). Also the analogue sticks look A LOT worse than what we got on the DS2, they look like the analogues on the PSP which are damn near horrible for any kind of gaming.

I like PS3 the best out of all the nextgen looks. IMHO, it's more streamlined, less cluttered (only 1 visible slot) and has better color combo (silver-grey controller). Yeah, I heard Sony will release the silver one based on E3 feedback. And yes, the controller does look dysfunctional. I have to hold it to really know whether I like it. I doubt Sony will screw up the controller though (To me, it's as important as the Cell + RSX combo).

I wanted a flat-top, but Sony probably doesn't want people stacking stuff on top (to avoid any heating issues from the hi-end chips). In any case, if I stack any boxes on top, it will hinder the usage of the media bay. Depending on the bundled apps, I may use the media bay a lot. Have been taking lot's of pictures lately.

I dont like the PS3 case design, it is a backward step from PS2 in my opinion. The curve top is spoiling the rest of the design but maybe the extra headroom in the middle is required. (cooling purposes?)

It would be nice to hear from the guys who designed the PS3 and their philosophies/concepts behind it. 8)

According to Kutaragi, the design took inspiration from the architecture in Roppongi Hills and Shiodome:

It's easy enough to see the link. I'm sure there were technical considerations too, of course.

I didn't really care for the design at first, but it's really growing on me. I'm curious what all of the next-gen consoles look like up close and personal, so I think I'll reserve judgment until then.

The design isn't really my cup of tea, but then I'm a fan of matte black metal boxes, which they also seem to be fairly capable of making:
