Capcom's Deep Down

People can complain about the downgrade based on poorly compressed or off screen footage all they want, but a lot of the impressions I'm hearing from people actually at TGS is that the game looks gorgeous. On the CAGcast tonight they were saying it's the only thing at TGS that actually looks "next gen".

My only concern is GG overdo it and forget about the gameplay and art. Don't want the game to be too clean and "technical".

lol. Side effect of horizontal posting.

For Deep Down yeah the dynamic generation is at once a concern and opportunity. :)

Can you buhlieve that
PS4 exclusive Deep Down, the randomized online dungeon crawler by Capcom’s shining light Yoshinori Ono was just confirmed to be a Free-2-Play title.

Certainly a interesting development, especially seeing as the game is seen by many to be one of the bigger exclusives the PS4 has at the moment. Exactly what the deal with the game will be in regards to how much will be free is not yet known, but I’m personally hoping for something akin to Phantasy Star Online 2 where the game can be played for free without any issues what so ever, leaving the money stuff to additional content beyond the core game.

Shuhei Yoshida also informed people via twitter that the game will enter Beta close to the Japanese launch of the PS4, so there’s something to look forward to.

Capcom just announced that "deep down" will be a f2p game on
PS4, planning open Beta near the launch of PS4 in Japan. @Yoshi_OnoChin
So much awesomeness for free ! Imagonnaget a ps4 right now !

I guess the real question is can they monetize the game without taking away from the gameplay. I don't want pay to win, or pay to not waste my time.

I like that you can destroy enemies' weapons, though the AI doesn't seem to realize it.

AI?

That animated GIF actually symbolizes the repetitive nature of the animations pretty well. Same animation with/without weapon in hand. Multiply by 3 enemies and you have a MJ Thriller video.

OMG this game will be free to play :p
I'm afraid this will dial the hate up to 11.
It's going the be the best looking free game ever, right?

I feel a little concerned about this F2P trend that we see lately. Its ok to have some. But I dont want to see this becoming a widespread trend.
It has its benefits but its got lots of downsides too. First of all they are all online dependent. And secondly and most importantly I dont want my experience to be dependent on mutliple transactions that I will have to pay periodically to reach a certain level of satisfaction. It removes some of my independence and destroys the transparency of value I could easily observe from the traditional way of owning and playing games

I played Blacklight on PC for quite some time and frankly, I think F2P has matured enough now. I never found myself looking at any menus asking me to buy and i never felt handicapped either. In fact I won a few matches. Haven't spent a penny on it. PC forums also tell us Mech Warrior Online is also doing F2P right. I am going for Hawken next week, lets see how that feels.

As long as F2P games monetise on players looking for visual identity and not on gamelpay essentials, they will be fine. Look a Team fortress on steam. world of tanks, Warthunder, Warframe, I think the cmopanies have learnt now. We have no idea about Deep Down's implementation yet. And don't forget KZ3 MP is 'free', UC3 MP is 'free' , MAG is also 'free' to play, so there are amany ways to be 'free' . With PS+ I am pretty sure KZSF MP will also go 'free' a few months after launch, once other games satrt arriving. we have no idea what Capcom lpans to do. What if Dungeons based on Anger are free but the rest need to be paid for, making it just a demo.

What surprised me more was the date for the beta. The game doesn't seem to be close to completion at all, yet th ebeta seems to be arriving in Feb ! Also, remember guys, he game was still Japan only, the last time I checked :( .

It'll be disappointing if the game has a crap F2P pricing structure, but I'll reserve my judgement til it's detailed. Anyways, the most important part about the reveal for this game so far to me is finding out Panta Rhei can and will look amazing for future titles :)

The thing is it this game seems to be very cool and transforming it in a F2P doesn't seem like the best idea.

I have actually hated most every f2p and subscription based game nowadays mainly because they are like cash shops which are more pay to win than actual free to play games.

Besides that, there are games that went from making a stand against including micro transactions to adding them which outright made the years of work meaningless for some legitimate players of those games.

If this game is free to play BUT easy to walk away from the micro transactions, or making them more affordable and easier to ignore, then it can be more palatable. Business models change over time -i.e. Diablo 3, which I could buy now if its released for next gen consoles, and I hated it to death on the PC, when I was huge Diablo player back in the day- , so...

The gif Jayco posted looks awesome btw, especially the realistic animations.

Given my experience with F2P titles, I'll pass this.

It's too bad, since I like everything else about the game.

Interesting.

So adventurers need to worry about getting killed, and getting soul sucked by the system ? Nice ! :runaway:

I'll definitely still give it a try (just like Plants vs Zombies 2), but the beginning better be amazing. :p

EDIT: They should get rid of the damage counter. It looks so cartoony.
Even better, deteriorate the look of the monsters. Monster health bar looks so MMO.

:???: As it's free to play, what's the harm in trying it first and then deciding? I can't say I'm in favour of this model, as discussed in the F2P thread wherever that was, but I wouldn't avoid trying a game just because it's free to try. There are numerous different takes on the F2P model, and I wouldn't discount anything out of hand. It could be that this game is free to play and then you buy episodic content and expansions. Or it could be that you have to grind away for free or buy progress. But you don't know until you try it, for free!
