Can't install Silverlight, what am I missing ?

A guess of mine grabbed out of pure air is flash has >99% of the market. I've not seen one single site ever of those I regularly visit that uses silverlight, and none of my infrequent visitors/random stumbles either, excluding those sites I checked out that were linked from silverlight.com.

Personally I'd love for flash to die a fiery horrible death though, because it's the scourge of the earth as far as I'm concerned. No browser plugin in the history of mankind has caused so many crashes as flash. Nevermind it's slow, from a stability POV it's crap, plain and simple. I still get several crashes or other glitches due to flash every week, thankfully it doesn't take out the entire browser anymore in IE8 like it did in previous versions, but it's annoying enough when it happens as IE stops responding until the tab has been recovered...

I am not a fan of flash either but I think HTML5 is the first step in a long road to being flash free.

I'm not a fan of HTML5 either if it means more flashy/glitzy "look at me" sites, rather than functional sites.

Give me a well laid out site with no flash, no animation, no style sheets, no cascading menus, no bling bling any day of the week.

I have flash permanently off, and only toggle it on when I want to view a video and there's no option to download it. If a site doesn't have a fallback to a non-flash version. Buh-bye, I'll never be coming back.

I'm not holding much hope of Silverlight or HTML5 being significantly better from an annoyance and security hole point of view.

Regards,
SB

I use flashblock, without it I would have to disable the flash plugin or restrict my browsing (open less tabs and have to care about flash-heavy pages). hell, Javascript already sends my CPU spiking 100% for several seconds sometimes, if I were letting flash unrestricted it my browsing experience would be really slow and I would even be wasting watts.

There was a time when I hated flash with a passion because it slowed my browser and computer down, but ever since I built a more powerful PC with more RAM a C2D and running the latest Internet Explorer, I have virtually ZERO problems with flash. Sometimes I would open 20 or more tabbed flash pages without the CPU usage going beyond 5%.

BTW Windows AutoUpdated my Silverlight today.
