Calling The Undecided -- Need Your Opinion!

If Sony announced the PS3 to be region free on PS3, PS2, and PS1 titles. It's an importers perspective, since I'm planning on waiting til they hack the PS3 and I can actually play the games I want in the language I want.

Frankly though, I'm waiting for the PS3 from the get go. To me it's more along the lines of "what does MS have to do to convince me NOT to wait for the PS3." The only thing I could think of was to show off some crazy awesome RPGs, but frankly the PS2 destroys all next-gen consoles in that sense. Oh, if MS were somehow able to snap up all or a mjority of the expected exclusives on the PS3, then that would work, but that's also kinda impossible.

Sony need just to do 2 things:
*To release a more reliable hardware than the PS2
*To have a significant number of exclusives games that i want to play
In any case i will have to wait a few months after the PS3 release to decide if i should buy one.
I will use the money i planned to spend on the Xbox 360 to upgrade my PC in the mean time.
I will certainly not both buy a Xbox 360 and spend a significant amount of money on PC upgrade and the potentially expensive Ultimate Vista edition.

If Bioware switched sides I would seriously consider waiting until next year.

Short of that, I can't think of much. To even consider it I would need confirmation that GTA4 and FF13 are both PS3 exclusives.

I already have my HDTV, So I'm ready for HD gaming now! The thought of waiting a whole year sucks.

I'm gonna play the wait and see game, the X360 has like 4 or 5 games AT LAUNCH that I really want to play, and that's never happened before. Then of course we have GOW and Bioware's new game, as well as Lost Odyssey coming out in 2006. So I know I'm likin the X360 lineup, probably pick up PS3 when the games has matured, and price has dropped quite a bit.

Also the price of HD movie players in 2007 will probably help determine how quickly I purchase a PS3.

I doubt Sony can do anything to sway me at this point mainly because of Halo and PGR. Those are some of my favorite franchises.

I can't stand MGS and most of the other Sony supported franchises that come to PS consoles, so they do nothing to bring me towards buying a PS3.

I'm sure that if I had more time I would have purchased a PS2 for some interesting side titles like Space Channel 5 v2, REZ, ICO etc..., but I think I only have time for one console now and it'll be the one I can play the next Halo on. :)

IMO, unless you plan on buying both, the only smart thing to do is wait until the PS3 is released and then make a fair comparison between them. See which has more games that you are interested in. After that make your decision.

As for me, I'm buying both, and may get a Revolution as well. The games are what I'm interested in, not whose name is attached to the hardware.

That's smart talking.

I'm mainly a PC gamer, but I might buy all three just for specific games.

I will be purchasing both with a short time of each comes out. There are games on each that have offered me a good reason to purchase both. I may pack my PS2 away when the PS3 comes out simply because of the backwards compatibility. It will definitely be interesting to see which games I really am after in the coming generation. I'm sure it will be mostly RPG's, action, fighting, racing, RTS, etc.

I have no clue where I'm going to put my Xbox 1 simply because it will be too big to put on my entertainment stand.

i had a ps2 and have an xbox this gen, prob same thing for next gen. although 360 gets my nod so far because of the beauty that is LIVE.

halo series is by far my favorite and GOW just is icing on the cake. PD0 looks promising as well. but of course i want my GT5 and god of war 2!

such an awesome time to be a gamer. both consoles are within 90% of each other capability wise.

Why dont you trade up for the newer console? Both offer backwards compatibility.

no x360 is not fully backwards compatible....it can play some of the xbox titles but at the same time U WD NEED THE 100$ 20 gig HDD TO PLAY IT....i also doubt whether ps3 given its massive power could be 100% backwards compatible...we have to wait certainly for tht

Considering the PS2 isn't 100% backwards compatible with the original Playstation, I find it very hard to believe they could achieve 100% backwards compatibility with the PS3.

BC is a real pain in the butt to implement on any system. Even PC's are no longer 100% backwards compatible.

I already have my mind made up on which ill be buying but i just wanted to add that i really hope Sony changes up their controller a bit, as it was just a "conceptual design." Though i could be all wrong on the controller and it could actually, well..... feel comfortable? :X

I guess the look of it is kinda creepy :p

A successful [Xbox 360] launch doesn't necessarily mean next-gen leader. The Dreamcast sold half a million unit in two weeks and was considered a "successful launch." Though the "what will Microsoft have to say to convince consumers not to wait for PS3" would still be a major factor, Sony also have to ask themselves "what we need to do to make PS3's launch more successful?"

And he ask what Sony has to do to take some of MS' lights away. But it might turn out to another "Japanese RPG sux, I'm getting the an Xbox 360" thread. Because I too would like to hear from you guys "what Sony should do." Anyway, here are some of what I think Sony should or will do:

- Further push the "welcome to the HD era" that MS started and greatly tout their next-gen format [Blu-Ray] as the format that would replace DVD. And how it would come standard with PS3 (while 360 will not).

- "The Most Powerful Console" in the world tagline.

- PlayStation logo/brand.

- Announce that they have signed many 3rd party exclusives.

And among others. MS have some great exclusive games, but only the Halo name is widely recognizable by the average Joe. Sony in the other hand have more known brand (aside from the "PlayStation" brand) names that they would greatly push. Note that I'm basing my opinion on the average Joe's perspective. Not the hardcore gamers that wonders gaming site regularly (including myself). As many of, I will be buying both console (still undecided on Rev till I get solid details). Though I will be buying an Xbox 360 after PS3 as chances are I won't even be here when it launches.

I do not get rid of my machines just for the sake they may be collector's items one day. That and the fact that I have a back catalog of games for all the machines that would go to waste.

Another major factor of keeping the Xbox is that not all games will be backwards compatible on the X360.

Regardless, I will be making room for the new consoles so I can take the next step in gaming. I see no reason not to get both since I can afford it and the games on them look very promising. At this point in time I wouldn't be able to pick one over the other.

Nintendo is a no go for me since they are either saying neigh to HD or on the fence about it.

1. free online

2. better Japanese developer support

3. Spring launch

All I need is one out of those 3 and I'm pretty much waiting for sure. The biggest one is #2. Im getting the feeling that all the major projects are headed for PS3 while Xbox 360 gets the leftovers.

Hmmm well for starters I fall into the catagory that will probably buy all three consoles but I did buy the Xbox 1 at launch and waited to buy the PS2 till the slimline design came out. (Although my roommate had PS2 from the beginning so no need to me to spend $$ :))

Regarding your question though:

I think Sony needs to show a strong exclusive game lineup and a solid plan for their online aspect. Exclusive launch titles have played more of a role for next gen consoles from new franchises, to taking established ones to the next level, especially since many games are coming cross platform. I think Sony needs to show a new franchise to help start of the console. Although we have seen the "possabilities" of Killzone 2, MGS4, etc. I think a console selling title that makes peoples jaws drop (not just graphicly but gameplay and artistic wise). A new franchise thats shows the showcases the consoles strengths and whats to come on the system (in playable form :)) driving home that this is just the start of the PS3 life and look at what it does now! Think of what future games will be like ! Much like the buzz GOW (Gears of War) generated for Xbox 360. This along with their established franchises (not to mention Sony's marketing team :)) might cause some people (especially the established fans) to wait and pass up the Xbox 360 but I think Sony does have its work cut out for them.

We still dont know the PS3 final specs and all this is speculation about the next gen consoles being close power and graphic wise but either way IMO its the games, new franchises, (and online to a degree) that will help drive each respective consoles success.

Oh for sure! I'm waiting until the PS3 launches before investing in a next-gen machine. I must admit, I'm a little biased towards SONY, but only because...

...couldn't have said it better! They were the first to blow me away as far as console entertainment is concerned, and they've been consistent since!

I'm talking about XBOX360 being released THIS YEAR! I guess I may have been off with that comment, but that's certainly the way it is where I live at. What buzz? Well, being the only console (this year) capable of displaying visuals never seen before outside of cutscenes and FMV's is one thing. Guys at work just can't wait till next year to experience what next-gen gaming is bringing, so they're happily settling for the XBOX360! The buzz at local retailers who are spreading this by word-of-mouth. Maybe it's not happening in your backyard, but it's certainly happening around here (although the PSP launch on Sept. 01 has certainly quietened that down a little...;))

The joke is even the current Xbox isn't compatible with all of it's back catalogue

See this thread:

I just bought a brand new Xbox and neither Jet Set Radio Future of Panzer Dragoon Orta work in prog scan with the video encoder chip in the current Xbox.

Doesn't bode well for the 360 when he current machine has it's own problems.

Heh, you should see my place at work.

I have a console museum that others in the company heard about and thus contributed. An Intellivision, Colecovision, etc. And bunches of games too!

I'm not in a hurry:

I'm waiting for the availability of the three NG consoles, or at least xbox360/PS3 availability and having enough info about revolution.

Then i'll know how much and what thay can offer to me.

I'll make an informed choice, and I won't pay the first adopters price.

Some people where ready to pay 479 € (~600 USD) for the Xbox at European launch, i hardly understand how some consumers accept being ripped like that.
