Business Approach Comparison Sony PS4 and Microsoft Xbox

For certain experiences like dancing, fitness or active sports there's nothing that comes close to beating it, but for other games it's not a great fit. Just another tool. Seems like you think interface?

Yeah, 1 to 1 tracking motion games are obviously the killer app for these kinds of sensors. Anything that requires using them to interact with virtual gameworlds turns into an awkward experience. Hence why the tech never branched out beyond said games no matter how many times people say people say it will happen. And also there is that critical issue with time/effort to input, i.e. Flail my arms around at air or slightly move my finger.

IMO, unless its a tech I can use to replace standard input devices then its an addon gimmick that could just be bundled with dance or fit shovelware.

but MS will have a better experience. Better tools & better software than any of those electronics companies can do. It may no longer be the only option, but you won't get the exact same experience.
Not sure how you can say the experience WILL be better when the system isn't even out yet. Why couldn't the Android or iOS platforms offer the same or better experiences, especially when they have a larger ecosystem then embedded windows platforms? You don't need super powerful hardware to run entertainment apps/services beyond an ARM SoC.

He mean Smart TV UIs, and I agree with him, even the first Kinect has a better UI experience than current (and possibly next) Smart TVs.

This. The Smart TV guys are basically just adding check box features & they'll just phone it in. Whereas Microsoft has spent millions(maybe billions?) on research & development to come up with a better experience. Microsoft doesn't have much to worry about them. They do have to worry about Apple & Google though.

And it will be "free" for gold the first year.

Don't see the big deal. There are lots of people who buy stupid work out stuff that never gets used.

Will probably play very well to females.

I havent even looked at it. It uses Kinect? Great move by Microsoft. Don't know about the subscription fee, though.

Kinect yea , they have the lady from the biggest loser , they have px90 stuff , insanity , and the method . These are all $50 to $200 training programs.

so for some it could be worth it. It comes free till nov of 2014.

Do people work out at home any more?

There used to be those exercise videos and such but I think people are more into going to health clubs and yoga classes and such.

I guess it's another hook for people to continue paying for XBL. Or are they going to charge something on top of XBL Gold after the free intro period?

There still is those videos, Hundreds of them. And there probably always be people who want them because it's not as convenient to go to a class or a club to work out.

I don't know that this is a killer app, but the fitness stuff has always been big in the past there's little reason to expect it's going away until there's a pill that makes you fit.

There used to be shows all over cable for workouts, so you didn't even have to buy these videos.

Those are long gone now.

Instead, there are infomercials to buy treadmills and other exercise equipment which come with DVDs.

Well think about it, if people didn't work out at home then p90x, Insanity, etc wouldn't exist.

I'm not saying people don't. But is it as widespread as it used to be during the Jane Fonda days?

I could make room between my couch and my TV but the space isn't well ventilated so not sure I want to do intensive workouts there.

I know quite a few people who have treadmills in a tiny space and a basic fan for air. Anyway I think working out at home in general will always exist. Not everyone wants to spend money and time to go to a fitness club.
