Best Graphic EVER [Full Gears of War Vids]

I work with a guy who owns a 360 and he constantly tells me not to get one, there are no good games for it. I showed him video of Gears of War at work today and he got all excited about it. I'll have to pick up a 360 at some point myself to play.

Not best looking game ever. That goes to Crysis or Alan Wake (I'm leaning to the former again).

Upon release, it will, as the first ue3.0 game, be the best looking actual released game on the planet though, I'm sure high end PC's could run it but they wont get the chance.

And the PS3 wont be out for a few more days so I avoid that debate (though personally I think Gears still beat all the current PS3 launch titles, Resistance being imo the strongest competition)

But doesn't the 1up video hitch at several points for you guys? Or is it my video? It's not really framerate, it just literally stops for a second here and again, probably a streaming problem not yet fixed?

Yeah seems to be a streaming problem that causes the hiccups as it's loading. Some people are confusing that with a bad framerate though.

According to Luke Smith from 1UP, there were multiple builds on the dev units, and the footage shown during the 1UP Show was from a dev unit that didn't have the right build enabled.

This build of the game shown is from X06, but the wrong build on this machine appears to have been enabled. I talked with Cliffy that morning after playing that build, if you notice, the build gets framey in the exact same spots that the E3 demo did. They went down and reset the Xbox 360 dev unit and picked the right version of the build (there were three or four different builds on the debugs on hand, Cliffy showed me after the meeting). I played it again later on the same kiosk and the same demo part on another one and the framey-ness didn't repeat, so I wish they'd used some different footage for the 1UP Show. That's also why I don't think I mentioned the framey stuff in the preview, because it was a build issue. Gears is running pretty damn smoothly from everything I've seen on updated and correct builds.

After watching the video, I'd say I'm less impressed by it than before. It definitely isn't the best thing ever -- it looks good, but it looks so utterly generic (in my opinion) that I find myself bored with the graphics almost. I dunno. I'll wait for an HD video, but my interest in the game has gone down a bit, to be honest (although this isn't exactly a genre or style of game I really like to begin with, for what it's worth).

Looks like it'll be polished and all that jazz, but I can't seem to get all that excited over it (which is more or less an issue I've had with this game for a long time). I have a feeling I'll probably end up with the game based on hype alone though, hah.

I think this game is focusing way too much on graphics and not gameplay. It's a visual eye candy yes. But the gameplay looks way too repetitive and slow. If all your going to do is stop & pop all day then this game will suck for me. It's like a game I've played called kill.switch. The concept is nice, but in actual practice it gets boring over time. I will continue to keep a close eye on this at least.

I'm not expecting much. Epic hasn't really made a good game since the original Unreal and Unreal Tournament, in my opinion. The fact that they chose a 3rd person view for a shooter strongly suggests the game will favor graphics over gameplay. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

That sounds interesting. Where did you hear that?

"There are hybrid solutions to VSYNC. Gears of War uses VSYNC whenever a frame takes less than 33ms to render and immediately displays the frame if it took more.

This means we VSYNC > 30 FPS (and hence clamping to 30 FPS) and don't drop down to ~20 FPS (32ms + 16ms) just because the framerate might be 29 FPS in rare cases.

In practice, this is the best of both worlds as you get VSYNC 99% of the time and don't get hitches the 1% of the time where strange things happen that cause the framerate to drop slightly. This has been working out great for us, allowing consistent high framerates with minor glitches here and there not ruining the butter smooth feel ;-)

The link's not working.

But it's good to hear that developers get a little bit more creative on the v-sync front. Other devs should follow their example. Just because you can't enable v-sync in some situations, doesn't mean it should be turned off entirely throughout the whole game. Thumbs up for Epic.

The latest 1up episode has some pretty good quality material, no framerate issues at all. I would still prefer to see 720p material of course, but it does look really really good. There is also some nice footage of Lair with commentary from Factor 5, it does look pretty damn good too...

This video has some of the best quality footage i have seen at 640x360 but its about 500mb to download.
I separated the gow footage which is only 5 minutes 118MB.
Graphics wise looks incredible , though , gameplay will remain the big :?: until the first reviews.

Totally agree here. Ok, the gfx are hardly judgable from these little videos, but the gameplay kinda bores me. I think on the one hand it wants to be a tactical shooter like GRAW, on the other it tries to be fast paced action, but kinda failes here. When i first saw this video it i thuogh it was Lost Planet or something, looked very similar from the viewpoint.
The AI also doesnt seem to be the brightest one (with aliens standing around without cover, or not even reacting, where he bashes that beast in close combat...)

Well i hope i'm wrong, but till it's out i'll stick to GRAW:)
