Gamecube. Yeah, it's got all the great kid franchises like Tak and Crash, plus Mario, but the main thing is you just plain can't bust it. Kids are hard on stuff.
Definitely a GameCube. Grab a few extra controllers, and Mario Party or Mario Kart are great opportunities to have fun with the whole family and/or friends. Think not "kiddy games", think "quality software that is also suitable for kids". The GC also has a low price (99$ with a game bundled) and is very sturdy.
You may want to pick up Zelda Wind Waker, Super Smash Bros Melee, some of the Mario Sport games if you fancy them...
I love game cube games.....super monkey ball, mario kart, zelda, metriod prime, the incredibles, mario sunshine, etc all great games to play. my wife and I get hours of enjoyment out of the multi player games.........must mash big green button.........
Not that I've much to contribute. GC and PS2 for the reasons given. I will say that you can burn quite a few calories playing EyeToy and it's really the only choice for active gaming I think. Plus you get zillions of peripherals for PS2 like Dance Mats and Singstar. Other than that, it's all been said already.
