Best Company Vehicle ~$35k

Ah. This explains why I can't find the S80 being discussed.

And no. We discussed the platforms on which various Volvos are or will be built. The S80 as an answer to Mize's original question (it was Mize, wasn't it?) has not been discussed, until now.

I looked at the S60 and found it rather pricey once all the bells and whistles were added...I just assumed the S80 would be more expensive...?

Please Sage, I doubt you are very qualified to be giving out opinions when it comes to luxury cars.

well, I'd love to hear what makes you more qualified than myself...

Oh, OK. Yes, it would be. I just got the impression that more expensive cars were discussed. But, as I said, I have no idea how cars are priced in the US - I just know that the pricing is different than in Europe...

Mize, have you considered the 2006 Infiniti M35 at all?
Love it, but too much $$. Everything over 35/36 is out of pocket!
Oh, okay. Somewhere I got the impression that you'd be willing to go into the low 40's, but I guess the M would be even more once you add tax and freight. I know, I thought you were considering the STS, but it was the CTS. Personally, I'd put in a few dollars extra if I get to use it as my primary car, but you know best.

Google tells me the G35 Coupe has a folding seat but the pass-through is narrow. I take it you need 4 doors, though. I guess the 300C is the only car that meets all your requirements.

Anyway, I think you've heard all the suggestions now. Let us know what you decide!

I'd go to about $40k ($5k out of pocket) on this one. I think the Infiniti M is georgeous and would love one but I think it would run $50k with options...better go check just to make sure :)

Uh...yup, about $49k with options...:(

Are these options things you get with lower cost models like the 300C or CTS? I thought for about $43 you could get it very decently equipped.

Oh, wait, you want the Nav system and AWD, don't you.

Well, good luck!

I may not be qualified either but I do have enough experiences with many different types of cars to come away unbiased. Comments about not being able to have a Japanese luxury car is a very blank statement. Do you just like Mercedes for the prestige it gives? That's the impression I'm coming away with.

If someone were to criticize Cadillac for their recent offerings and poor interior quality and driving characteristics I would agree. Caddy has come a long way since their previous generation of cars but they still have a lot of catching up to do.

The general consumer probably does have different meaning to others as it does to me. I look at the general buyer as someone who goes out and looks for a car that fits their needs and wants within a specific budget. This can be for any class of car but something in the overall class. Most people are budget minded and want to get the absolute most for the best price possible. They usually compare certain cars in a class that they look at. They like value and usually find a car that fulfills that.

They aren't like me who look forward to the new Porsche in the garage or going around the race track in a stripped to the bone Evo.

That's what's important. To me, it certainly belongs into category "quality". :)
We've never gotten a vehicle before only because it was sooo fun, but I highly recomend being irresponsible like that to anyone else in a quandry.

Life is too short, take BIIIIG bites! 8)

That is why me and the wife got a WRX and let me tell you it is good fun. Since we live in texas the fact that it was all wheel drive did not allow the seller to increase the price, and as you know modifications do not add value really, he had put in an STi suspension and exhaust system all ready so it is pretty fun fast, and controls wonderfully.

Whoever said it don't got much power is higher than me, the sucker will toast Corvettes!
But the 0-60 is listed as 5.3s and the corvette is 4.72 for the 2003 model.

Of course I can toast corvettes in our wagon too, but that is just due to the drivers not knowing how to drive the expensive cars their dad bought for them :p (btw the stock wrx gets 0-60 5.9s so it is well off of a vette., the sti is like 4.9s)

...except that you cannot have an opinion, however unbiased, on something you know nothing of. you've already demonstrated you level of knowledge of Mercedes products ("500 series")

Are you saying there is no 500 series form Mercedes? I know full well of the the lesser models and I do not see the appeal.

This may fit the bill

Oh yeah, I was wrong.

Blame it on over-exhuberence on getting my first new sports car. I've been reading up a lot of info since then and it looks like there are a number of cars around that could whoop up on mine.

That doesn't make me like mine even one tiny bit less though, I just lovers it to pieces too much!

We're still breaking it in gentle, got about 400 miles to go...

Hey digi, it doesn't matter if other cars out there are faster than you. Just remember that you're faster than 90% of the cars on the road and you'll know you made the right purchase. You have a low 14 to high 13 second car in the quarter mile and that is pretty quick damn quick compared to most cars. Just remember that you will be even quicker around a track compared to cars that might be faster in a straight line.

you clearly know NOTHING about Mercedes. 5-series is BMW. I think you should just leave this conversation right now if you dont even know the difference between Mercedes and BMW.

and, the "lesser models" of BMW would be, in the US, limited to the 3-series which has been top-in-class for a very very long time.
