Best 20inch monitor for graphic design ?

We're using Dells, the 4:3 20 inch model has considerably better image quality then the 2007 24" model. Still not good enough for color related stuff though.

Well, those are pretty much unavailable by now... And it's also worth noting that the quite expensive 20" Eizos we've got in 2004 haven't really been too reliable - about half of them (!) have died by now.

A good flat-screen CRT.

Why laugh? This is the obvious, and correct, choice. If you're doing graphics design and need impeccable colour reproduction and the speediest of response times, you don't touch any kind of LCD or LED based screen below $4000. A CRT is the logical choice... A perfectly calibrated Trinitron would be my personal choice. Depending on what brand you choose, they can be had for an absolute steal now (look for later year models, such as 2002 / 2003, they're worth it!). Or, you could hop on eBay and go get yourself a 24" Trinitron CRT (1920x1440), Just about as good as it gets (just about!).

I'd kill myself if I had to do graphic design work with an LCD.

Particular brands? Beats me, but those are the kinds of prices I've sometimes seen around the web for highend LCD's that are (specifically) marketed for those into graphic design. I suppose some of Eizo's better screens aren't too bad (10bit), Apple's LCD's are extremely good for colour reproduction and probably wouldn't require any colour calibration at all. I'd still put more interest into a quality CRT from LaCie or SONY in the end to get the job done. I suppose response time isn't too big an issue any more, that evens things up nicely...

*edit*

I don't know about $4000, but LaCie makes some high end LCD panels. The one I linked goes for $1500-1800

Wow, that is nice. Those specs are impressive. They're closer to $3,000 over here in AUS depending on where you buy, which is probably why I'm seeing such inflated prices all around.

Nothing in particular for brand, I just want to know of some models to look for. I still have CRT, but I have to switch over sooner or later. The LCDs that I got I am not really happy with, and I am not up to date with LCDs development so I was rather curious what are some LCDs that can match good CRT.

The one that AlphaWolf linked look promising.

Why are apple's nice if they have the same electronics as other brands?
