Battleborn [PS4, XO]

SUPERB !
Best news out of PSX is that Battleborn will have an open beta ! Yes :D ! and those who play the open beta will get a 26th hero in the final game !

Tried it at the Xbox event. It was alright. I actually felt gigantic had the formula better.

Super fun beta !Loving playing as Rath , he needs healing from Miko, but he is relentless and devastating and fast too ! :p This is my first game as Rath, will bring more action footage soon.

Did not like the beta at all on PS4. Framerate felt low, the Borderlands voice acting hangover was jarring, gameplay was on the dull side plus the always online single player can go suck on something lousy tasting.

Love playing as Rath ! That's when the game gets hectic and fast.

And frame rate is smooth for me , the only thing that can play spoilsport is the lag.

Hm, don't feel it. Tried 3 diff. Characters...don't like the gameplay too much, graphics are bad, art style is all over the place imo, levels and mission seem to be ok, but there are only 8 apparently, leveling is super shallow...did not bother at all about the levels, server for SP solo needed...I fear that this game is Gearbox's Driveclub.

Where is my BL3 Gearbox?? :(
PS: Evolution got killed imo because no Motorstorm 3.

levelling up has a lot of aspects actually. I played a few more games and new abilities for Rath opened up which can be unlocked now when playing. Also, a new character got unlocked too due to my overall account level up and I found gear which made me up my stats making Rath a deathmachine basically.
Its not a traditional game, definitely and might get overlooked due to that. You start getting a feel for it once u start putting time in it, or thats what I feel from the beta. The more I play, the more I feel invested due to myriad of progression systems.
I still prefer Rath over others though, very fast paced, very agile and lethal !

Played a bunch today. Big fan of the art style. Similar to Borderlands, but different. It's cartooney but not cell shaded. Character designs are very nice, and the voice overs and taunts are really well done. Missions have the idiotic Borderlands humour, which is genuinely funny at times. A rarity for games.

The upgrade system is great. They take a lot from mobas and make it work in the context of the game. The loot is interesting. It's basically like having items in dota or smite, but you keep them permanently and have to pay to activate them during a match/mission. Both of the missions are fun. I'd say the "advanced" difficulty might be too easy, but I didn't try hardcore. The 2nd mission is much harder than the first only because it's an escort mission (ugh) and it's hard to keep the vip alive.

Controls feel good and the characters have interesting powers. Very arcadey and simple, but tight. Variety seems good, so multiplayer should be fun. My friends played it. I didn't. They both are experienced moba players, and arena shooter players. They thought it was great.

Overall I'm actually considering getting it now, where it had kind of fallen off my radar before.

Play it for yourself, the beta is still on . As for me I have been able to get accustomed to Rath and Rath only and he is awesome too, has a killer combo of speed and lethality. With a healer behind him, he can accomlpish anything.

Haven't been able to complete the 2nd mission to be honest since I was always trying out a new character whenever I landed into that. Will try to clear it before the beta ends

Played it for quite a bit, now i wish i didn't, game is so unexpectedly and inexplicably fun, too bad it will bomb, i don't think even publisher believes in it, marketing push is... non-existent.

Ha ! Turns out I got a promo copy for this one for reviewing ! That's nice :) ,since I wouldn't have spent the money right now with DS3 and Uc4 sitting pretty on my ps4

This is surprisingly more fun than the beta ! I wonder if anything has changed since then or is it just that I am trying newer characters over Rath which was my favourite in the beta. The game is mindless co-op fun ! One downside: I cannot decicde which mission t oplay , it depends on what everyone votes for ! It isn't bothering me right now cos missions feel very different with each character as your role in the battle completely changes, but i guess it will be an isuue later.

Currently, its pretty fun :D !

Currently Amazon has the Digital Deluxe Edition of it on sale for $40 for both the PS4 and XO. I believe the Deluxe edition includes the season pass for all DLC content.
[ Amazon Link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DYYEUW2 ]

As they describe it: "The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the Season Pass, giving you 5 all-new Story Operations and instant access to 5 new heroes when they release, plus additional skins, taunts, gear packs, and more!"

I haven't played any of the beta or followed much of this game at all, so here's my question. Is the game worth $40?

When I got the chance to play it, it felt like a MOBA in first person mode. In some ways like Destiny but in other ways different.

I like its PvE ! Don't look for a story or any such thing, it's just fun. Play a mission, destress for the day, leave smiling. Repeat next day.
It has 8 missions for PvE which feel like a mix of normal fps missions +tower defense like stages. The fun is that each character can make the mission feel different. It's the PvP which is like a MOBA, which I still haven't played.

In fact, here is my PVE review: http://renegaderocks.blogspot.in/2016/05/battleborn-early-review-unabashed-fun.html?m=1

The progression is diablo-esque......and u can keep trying out and switching heroes, u will make progress as long as u are playing anything.

But am not sure what that season pass entails.
