First anime I have seen was "Heidi" and "Calimero"... Hey I am living in Austria, that explains it, doesn't it

Then again, I think my first anime experiences were with Bubblegum Crisis, Dirty Pair: Project Eden, Venus Wars, and Grey Digital Target--all unsubbed and undubbed. (This was back in 90-91) Then I watched Kimagure Orange Road 5-8 (also in raw japanese), fell for Ayukawa, and have been lost to it all ever since! My beginning was rather weird as well. Hehe... For the first year, the only thing I saw subtitled was MADOX-01, and I watched a LOT of anime. (Leaned on rough BBS-found translations for some things.)

Hey, I was 4 years old in 1984... I realised only later that those were actually animes
