Bandai Namco and SCEI to establish a new joint company CELLIUS for Cell software

Judging by the scans it indeed looks like interactieve movies, lots of cutscenes where you have to press a certain button at the right time. And it looks very "Japanese", I think those games will be quite popular in Japan.

Somehow i doubt that, very very very few Japanese graphic adventure game's/digital comics did well in Japan.

I bought one on PS2 to try out the concept... it's not as compelling as "real" games. Unless the cute actresses and handsome actors have their own pull, it may be a hard sell. Is there anything new with these 3 releases ?

Where was it confirmed that those scans were from the Cellius/Sony?

Google for Cellius and Brave Arms, you will find the scans on other sites.

I'm mistaken. These 3 games don't look like live-action interactive movie. They seem to be video games with elements of interactive movies. Would be interesting to see what the gameplay is like. Also the scans do not mention "Cellius". Bandai-Namco is the publisher.

The quality looks exceptional (from the tiddly little scans) but I do question if they'd be entirely prerendered - that's a hell of a lot of rendering! Depending on how expansive the stories are, you can't render that much. eg. If 'The Incredibles' took 2 years to make and render (dunno how long it took), doubling the amount of content needed through different story choices would double the time to create... So either the stories are very short and prerendered, or the choice have negligable impact other than 'game over, start again', or it's rendering at least part in realtime to adapt to the changes.

But the most surprising part is that it's apparently being developed by Cellius... the joint venture between Sony and BandaiNamco

Which made me wish the three games Cellius announced in 2007: Brave Arms, Second Season 01, and Chain Lim!t are still under production... they looked pretty promising. But still good to see they still exist... thought they had vanished
Images are imageshack'd, so hopefully they don't vanish so soon. Mods, feel free to edit if that's too many images. So... uh, Kutaragi lives? Is he still CEO of Cellius?

Heh, good choice. Evangelion has a large following, and is pretty unique. Just look at the items http://www.evastore.jp/index.cgi is selling.

A GANTZ game would fit PS3 + Home deployment too, although the fan base is probably much smaller. The way characters are teleported to and back from "real-life" makes it very Home-like. The slightly more mature theme match the PS3 owner profile also.

That mysterious new Evangelion PS3 project has turned out to be something other than a game. Namco Bandai shared official details today on Misato Katsuragi Houdou Keikaku (Misato Katsuragi's Reporting Plan).

This latest adaptation of the Evangelion franchise is a fancy news reader for your PS3. For a monthly fee, you'll be able to get the latest news read to you by Misato, one of the primary characters in the Evangelion franchise. Topics of coverage include politics, the economy, sports, anime, movies, and other areas.

There does seem to be some technical wizardry going on with Misato Katsuragi's Reporting Plan. Misato is recreated in 3D, allowing players to change her hair style and physical appearance, background, and the broadcast camera angle. Her speech is computer synthesized using what Namco Bandai says is the latest voice synthesis system.

This experimental service will be available starting June 6 via PlayStation Store. To use it, you'll have to purchase a News License, which costs 800 yen for 30 days service.

Have serious world news read to you via a computer character???

Its about damn time! I hate these stupid human reporters, too much character and personality. No, seriously. Especially the local newscasters. I'd say this is a step in the right direction (for me, at least). Now, if they could just get HAL to do the reading...

I wanted something more interactive and fun

I hope they will tell us more about other projects

Huh. I doubt Cellius is in a position to develop competitive voice synth tech, compared to AT&T, IBM, and so forth, but it'd be neat if they could put the Cell to use for that and do something impressive.

Why? Often small startups develop amzing new algorithms ahead of big corporations, and then they're bought. As this is a software solution, I think it's quite possible some new method is developed outside of the major players. Not saying it will happen, but it's not impossible. Especially if the target hardware forces out-of-the-box thinking.

Look up vocaloids. Maybe it's the syllabic nature of Japanese but they're surprisingly lifelike, in a creepy, horrifying way.

I just tend to think that the people doing exceptional work in this field are specialists at it, and have to spend a lot of capital developing these things, and I wouldn't expect a small shop like Cellius to be able to compete.

Now, if they are working with specialists in the field, then sure, something neat could happen.

...this might sound stupid but, is there any chance of this hitting the US and with Misato's English voice actor (Allison Keith)?

I ask because- I too believe Misato to be an awesome character. Even her penguin (penpen) brought joy to my heart.

As the voice is synthesised, you'd only get an approximation of the Actress's voice. Dunno how advanced they are in that respect.
