Also consider than Sony can include more components at cost than MS can..

Gotta disagree with that. I assume you're talking about Cell, but when you consider how many billions Sony has spent on developing the thing and building fabs, I'd say it will be even more expensive than the CPU in X-Box 360. Maybe they can include a blu-ray drive at cost too, but again a regular DVD drive is still going to be much cheaper. The GPUs in both systems are licensed designs, and even allowing some margin of difference in the royalty deals and manufacturing costs, their can't be a huge difference in cost.

True, but again even with the GPU, Sony is fabbing their GPU's at the Nagasaki fab whereas Microsoft will be outsourcing.

More to the point, did it have to and was that what they were even aiming for?
They wanted a foothold in the market, they now have it, this generation is going to be quite interesting in a lot of ways.

Actually, I think they expected to do a lot better than they did.

There was a book which showed MS scratching their heads. In particular, Gates was asking the Xbox designers how Sony was doing online without a hard drive, since he'd been talked into spending the money to include the hard drive.

It's funny, but to me, it feels like back in the days when Dreamcast was close to launch and details on PS2 surfaced. Despite how awesome Dreamcast looked, I never had any doubts that Sony would deliver something *at least as good 1 year later. It's quite similar now with Xbox360 and PS3 - the greater Xbox360 turns out to be, the more I'm expecting Sony to be at least as good - if not better - when they follow suit.

Coupled that with all the PlayStation typical franchises that made my choice clear this generation, I'm not sure I'm about to jump into next generation with any other console other than Sonys - and seeing their lineup for the year and possibly PSP - I'm sure I'm more enough than willingly to wait that one year to make my decision.

Call me biased - but I'm sure not the only one out there.

EDIT: * I was tired when I wrote that
Difference between dreamcast launch and ps2 launch:20 months
Difference between X360 and ps3 launch:4 months(for home markets).

Thank God we won't have to tolerate 2 years of BS hype like in the ps2 days(ps2-50 times more powerfull than DC).This times we will have ACTUAL ps3 games soon after the xbox360 launch.

And since you mention history,if history repeats itself(sony couldn't get ps2 launch games to look better than games on an almost 2 years older hardware) then it is going to funny as we watch the launch games of the ps3 :devilish: :devilish:

What proof have you got to support that the PS3 will be launching 4 months later after X360? At this point, it's still to be officially confirmed if Xbox360 will make it stores before 2006.

I don't think sony is going to launch any latter than may in japan if they are going to launch in the usa and europe for the holidays . Just look at the psp and the ps2 before it .
