ATI R600

Can the original R400 have now slipped all the way to R600?? Just how advanced was that sucker?

Chip companies are always work on next generations chips way ahead of releasing current products. I heard that Intel does this. I would expect that NVidia has got NV60 or even NV70 already on the drawering board..

How about R400 simply going into/being adapted for Xenon and never appearing on the desktop? Next stop R500 :?:

Is this because the R500 will be announced, we'll find it has nothing to do with DXNext which we all expect the X-Box 2 to be based around... or am I just plain wrong? :)

Nope. On May 5, ATI will open it's doors for the first time to 5 lucky winners. The winners will receive a guided tour of ATI research facilities + a lifetime supply of graphics cards. But you have to buy Wonka bars to win.

This is complete speculation and people have probably already done to death why this can not be the case but , how about

I assume R500 will be the first ATI VPU with SM 3.0
You'll find out why - May 5.

If we are going to learn something on 5th then it must have a bearing on R420 , as Ati won't be talking about future products.

The rest of Megadrive's and Chalnoths posts relate to R500/600 information so Dave wouldn't be telling us we'll find out anything about them on 5th May.

No doubt ATI needs additional people to help with R600 and the Xbox 2 variant

R600 will bring SM 4.0 - which Xbox 2 will also have, naturally

I would actually expect the X-Box 2 GPU to have more in common with the R500.

Why would anything come out about any of those statements/questions on 5th.

OK you can all call me crazy now but it's just the waiting and speculation getting to me

Dave, are you saying Nope to what I said, or to what Chalnoth said?

The NV45 supposedly taped out at the same time the NV40 did. If the above is true then the R500 has to be taped out also. Hmm, interesting but with the added sceptisism of course.

Does this sound right

R300, R420, NV3x SM 2.x

NV40, NV45, R500 SM 3.x

NV50 and Greaterrem R600 and Greaterr - Direct X Next
