article on wsj on nalu and ruby

There were plenty of non-booth hot babes at the NV40 launch. :)

I saw some "working girls" swarming outside the building as well, eyeing some potential out of town business customers. :)

We found out a little later that the girls that were at the NV35 launch were paid to be there.

At the NV40 launch they were definately non-paid. 2 of them were from TechTv. A couple were girlfriends. One of them who I thought was a prostitute ( a really tall, really thin, model looking, blonde, without a bra, and with a plunging shirt down to her nipples ) turned out to be the wife of a friend of a guy I know who started a set-top box company based on ShuttleXPC designs and made a fortune. :(

The mermaid was paid of course. I doubt anyone is cos-playing as Nvidia characters. :)

You sure about that? I know I'd have to pay my gf to get her to attend something like that.

Yeah, this is San Francisco. Even cute girls in SF attend geek events. Networking is important, and there were alot of media people at this event. This was held near Nob Hill, an area with lots of watering holes (including a bar where models from the Academy of Art College hang out). I bumped into a few friends at the event who saw all these crowds in front of the Masonic Auditorum and basically registered on the spot to scrounge up free food.

I know that atleast two of the hottest chicks there (minus mermaid) were regular folks.

There weren't many boothbabes this year unfortunately. America needs to learn from Japan.

Man You are serious? They paid women to be there and not really do anything but attend? must roxxors to be a woman ^^

Girls, girls, girls

What area of the US has the worst male-to-female ratio?

You guessed it - Silicon Valley. Girls you wouldn't look twice at in Dallas get mutliple looks in Silicon Valley. There are no girls you would look twice at in LA present in the Valley at all.

As for the demos, I have seen both. The nV demo is just so-so. The Ruby demo is amazing, not because ATI roxxorz or whatever, but rather because you watch it and say to yourself, "Holy shit, games are gonna be fantastic (visually) when we finally get some games that actually do use something more than SM1.x."

IMO the best thing about nV doing the 4x line of products is that now Devs have no reason to hold back on using advanced shader technology. Both IHVs are producing products that can run this stuff with more than acceptable performance.

I just want the new games....

Sounds like you're saying Ruby's better because it doesn't look as good?

Sounds like he's saying Ruby is the sort of thing that looks like a game, whereas Nalu looks like an impressive, but sterile tech demo.

A single Dawn or Nalu may look great on it's own, but it's limited even for a non-interactive game animation, because it's only the one character on a very simple background.

Demos should demonstrate realisitic examples of what the card could render in a game, sure some 'cut scenes' could be used for a DAWN style demo, but to have 5 Dawns running around a bar pulling wings off each other and packing a machine gun wouldn't be too realistic at 2 fps.

In the end we want to know that our $1000 purchase will perform in real game scenarios.

That's just another way of saying that Ruby is less impressive visually.

If I wanted to look at what game characters could look like in upcoming games, I'd look at development screenshots/videos for upcoming games.

No it's not what I am saying at all. I could watch a special effects reel and say "that's impressive", but it doesn't make that demo reel an entertaining movie. Likewise Nalu is impressive, but as far as games are concerned (which is what we buy these cards for), it's a meaningless dead-end for the current level of tech. It's just visual willy-waving with no relevence to games for at least this generation of video cards.

For instance, I found ATI's chimp demo more impressive than Dawn because there was a much more complete environment with lots more going on. In the end, we saw games arriving (Far Cry) that looked a lot more like the ATI Chimp demo than we saw games using Dawn-like hyper characters.

I am sorry but an argument over whether tech demos should look like games, or be "sterile" and have one super detailed person is just silly. In all things you must choose your IHV and say they did the "right" thing bleh..

It's not like Nalu was the only demo that they showed. There are also a few other demos that you can see from NVDA's website that do look to be more applicable to games.

Actually, I was hoping that Ruby would be somewhat more bountyful in the bosom department! ;)

Heh, what did you expect, Pamela Anderson? :p On the other hand, as they say, diamonds are forever ;)

Ever go to a club ?

Man 15$ to get in. Woman free

Man 5$ for a beer , Woman , man buys .

Man hard liquer 7$ , woman , man buys .

I normaly bring 80$ to a bar for the night if i plan on trying to hook up. my friend ends up drinking 80$ and only brings 5$ for the cab ride home .

The main character from the nalu demo may be more visually impressive than the main character from the ruby demo, but overall the ruby demo is much more visually impressive than the nalu demo.

That's rediculous. A cab costs at least $15.
