Any difference in the Sony Playstation 3 60GB?

I just came home from Bestbuy and was looking at a box for a PS3 60GB.

I noticed that it had a number on it, 980000 (plus minus some zeros).

I also noticed that the box said the console was made in China.

My question is with in only the PS3 60GB model are there any differences with model numbers?

Was the PS3 always fabricated in China ( I thought the first ones last year were made in Japan)

Does it have a made in date, like month and year and what is so far documented if any on that.

Any sites that might have this information?

not that i'm aware of.

i know some of the launch units were made in japan, not sure if they still make any there. the majority of them are MIC.

i think the early models backward compatability had hardware EE emulators and the newer models have software EE emulators. there are a few that say that the software emulators are not as fast as the hardware, but were probably only talking about 1 sec delays which makes things moot

only the 80GB have the EE removed, all 60GB have it afaik.

No Europe PS3s have them. Regardless of the HDD size (in case there's several versions).

If you recall back in march there was a lot of angry feeling sexpressed on ths and other fora over this matter..

The lack of the EE is really a storm in a teacup. There are very few games that don't work now.
