It looks like it would have had to hit at least 3.5-4GHz at 350W to compete with the RTX 4090. I doubt it would have been possible even without the bug.

7900XTX is the same performance as 4080 in rasterization at 4K, the 4080 is faster by 25% in ray tracing.

Doesn't sound so bad considering its $200 less . The 4080 12 gig rename is going to be awkward when it finally releases

Huh? Its on par with a "4080 12Gb" and will be using nearly 100W more power. Its worse than last generation: https://www.comptoir-hardware.com/a...-radeon-rx-7900-xt-a-rx-7900-xtx.html?start=7

The difference between 4090 (not even a full AD102) and 7900XTX is bigger than 6950XT and 3090TI.
How do you know its on par with a 4080 12 gig fi the 4080 12 gig isn't even out ?

It's as fast as a 4080 16 gig in traditional rasterization. So its going to be faster than the 4080 12 gig in that. Its 25% slower in RT

Considering the spec differences between the 4080 16 and 12 gig the 7900xtx might be similar in performance with ray tracing. What's more is games that might require more than 12 gigs of graphics ram should show better performance on the 7900 cards.

Not a card I'd pay for, but not bad for 200 USD less than the 4080, the XTX is slightly faster while for 300 USD less, the XT is slightly slower making them much better value (if a card costing almost 1K USD can ever be considered a good value. :p For RT, it's priced about where it needs to be.

Power consumption being higher than the already high 4080 is not good though.

Will, have to see if/when AMD releases cards as they were "supposed" to be. So far, nothing this generation is worth it for me to pay for.

SB

On par in games with proper Raytracing.

maybe but at announced prices for the 4080 12 gig its only a $100 price difference. It seems the 7900xt will be the odd man out. Should have been priced under the 4080.

I think its obvious that they need more CU's for ray tracing or much higher clocks. Perhaps a mixture of both

I didnt write about the real product, just the performance level. And even lighter raytracing will reduce the gap between both products.

Not hitting 3GHz is big problem. Leaves AMD very little room to maneuver, and very much hoping NVIDIA doesn't drop prices on the 4080.
