AMD: R9xx Speculation

I suppose, that the "X" is used here just like a replacement of some number, but what if really AMD calls the dual-GPU cards Radeon HD 6X50 and 6X70?

e.g...
Barts: 6850 / 6870
Cayman: 6950 / 6970
Antilles: 6X50 / 6X70

X means 10 (that's more than 9) and it would also show, that the model is CrossFire based. It wouldn't be the first time they used X instead of 10...
me wants XXX0 :D

20101006070707_132614rz0re77ar55555u0.jpg

It's seems 28-29 cm long (length is 2.8 times width)

Edit:
Just for the sake of speculation:
Antilles 6X70/6X50
Cayman 6H70/6H50
Bart 6P70/6P50
Caicos 6M70/6M50

X for extreme: 400-500$, >200 W TDP
H for high-end: 300-400$, 150-200 W TDP
P for performance: 200-300$, 100- 150 TDP
M for mainstream: 100-200$, 50- 100 W TDP
I for integrated

First number is the generation number, letter is the target market, second and third model number
It's more clear than the current naming scheme (for both price point and TDP point), and it could be used for much longer.
(Radeon 10X70/10H70, i think is better than Radeon 10990.. it won't require to start the numeration again in few years)

I'd prefer to go with 6990 for Antilles XT and 6995 for Antilles Pro

So either
Barts HD6700
Cayman HD6800
Antilles HD6900

or
Barts HD6800
Cayman HD6900
Antilles HD6X00 as someone suggested

edit:
Or could it be list for Turks, Barts and Cayman instead of Barts Cayman and Antilles?

I can only hope it's the top :)

edit:
Was thinking about it myself.

Though according to rumors Antilles would be released this year while lowend (Turks, Caicos) would slip to next year which would indicate this list is for Barts, Cayman and Antilles

The HD6X00 is only my speculation :) I wasn't able to think out a better way how to fit the three models in, if Barts is HD6800. And especially if whe should pay attention to name of one series, as noticed in the slide.

The gaps are different in length, but Barts + Turks aren't. I think Barts, Cayman and Antilles would fit better.

But Antilles is shorter than Cayman to write unless you use capitals

So it has to be one of these
Barts
Cayman
Cayman X2

or
BARTS
CAYMAN
ANTILLES

(or in theory
Barts
Caicos
Cayman
But this doesn't fit anything really as Caicos is supposed to be the slowest chip of the series)

and usually XT > Pro

and usually XT > Pro

That's not relevant, as Caicos, Turks and Barts wouldn't fit it anyway, which would be only explanation for why fastest series would be on top and still be Barts with the shortest name (together with Turks, their names are the same width regardless if you use capital or normal letters)
So I believe it goes slowest to fastest from top to bottom on series, but fastest to slowest within each series

it would be nice, but this slide says otherwise ("50" and "70")...

So it is somehow confirmed that there's no way to name Barts 6800 while keep the old naming scheme.

You either name it 6700, or add 1 to each family thus breaking the "9" barrier.

I still consider the former more viable. But HD6X70/50 sounds intriguing, too.

Frankly, the "HD" sigh makes no sense now. If they are rebranding in this generation, AMD should be better off with NV/Intel or its own naming scheme. ie AA XXX where AA=targeted market (GTX, X6, i7), XXX=numers representing performance/generation.
Or maybe it will happen next time around along with 32nm/28nm and desktop Fusion/Llano launch

I don't agree really, IMO it's more clear for "average joe" to see HD6400, 6500, 6600, 6700, 6800, 6900 etc, than to go guessing if GT is worse than GTS is worse than GTX etc etc

Keep in mind, that the person, who leaked these slides, stated, that Barts isn't HD6700.

Agreed. Meaningless prefixes, whatever they may be (GTS/GTX/Ultra/i5/i7/whatever) should go away.

Why also blanking out the "AMD Radeon HD _ _ _ _ Series Graphic" and the "please note the naming scheme for the HD 6_ _ _ Series GPUs"?
Should'it be simply 6000? Or maybe there is more to hide?

For the codename..
I think the top one is unknown.. or it's Ant for Antilles.
The others can be Bart/Cayman or Bart/Caicos
