Accurate Human Rendering in Game [2018]

Without new stuff there would be little to no progress. Someone who only does something that has already been done may be good but not the best. And it is even unwise if solved problems are solved again.
Wrong. PS5 could use all existing PS4 techs just turn them up to 11 and still will advance game visuals to new heights. Just look at this.

Inventing new tech sure is important but that's only one part of advancing the graphics. There is a delicate balancing act here, sure you can compare individual techniques but for what people would normally refer to as the "Best" is the overall presentation. And that has got a lot to do with smart implementation, resource distribution, tradeoffs and whatnot. Having a couple of new techniques means jack when everything else is mediocre or lacking.

The best rendering programmers are those who are developing completly new stuff with which they advance technology.

It's like saying that you will judge a car on its engineering and not it's actual performances on road.

Also, precisely, better engineering translates in better performances on road...

Exactly. Good graphics, assuming they are not in detriment of gameplay, mean that you took the most balanced decisions at each stage of the development and that you very good at optimization.

Only very talented developers can do this.

By your definition, perhaps. I generally don't understand what you were trying to do with that statement in the first place. It doesn't teach anything meaningful in this discussion.

This is not the Uncharted 4 we can play. ND later even said they used offline rendering features in this trailer which were impossible on PlayStation 4.

Cannot find the original document (its somewhere in this forum) at the moment but here is the page where they say it was not realtime:

This was linked to the original trailer:

Uncharted 4 made a big "downgrade" in graphical and performance view (60 vs 30fps) and one employee even said then on Twitter that it was real time.

I agree if we compare the final game to the first teaser.

Anyway, there is no proof that your document is about the first video we saw of Uncharted.

Also, there's nothing paticular in the abcd points. : the same thing that is possible on console but at a much higher quality...

Edit:A much better example if it is not downgraded this time...

It is obviously in real time... the first video of Uncharted 4 was only a teaser running at 60fps.

With TLOU2 you have an entire scene lasting several minutes and running at 30fps.

It is not comparable. This cutscene is 100% running in real time and this was confirmed by ND several times. They are not stupid and they won't commit 2 times the same mistake.

But that doesn't mean the game won't be downgraded though. It's still a possibility.

I have no doubt it is realtime, the clothes physics give easily the realtime nature of the trailer(easily visible on the stiff coats of the two guys). I just hope like you no downgrade in the future. It is the best realtime cutscene I have ever seen and if the quality we will have for TLOU2 on PS4 Pro, the gap between UC4 cutscene and TLOU2 cutscene will probably be visible in gameplay too.

And none of the a,b,c,d tech is new, they're just high res and all. It's like PS4 can't run 8k in real time due to obvious reasons but 8k isn't new tech. My point still stands.

Also speaking of new tech, GoW does this new thing that's previously only done in films.
We wanted to read subtle emotions on characters' faces and used specific technology to help achieve this, such as pose-space deformation, which was previously only used in films, and very accurate lighting to make the characters look right."

So it's the Pose Deformer function in Maya, first used in the cloth movement from Animatrix.

It looks mind blowing in motion, whatever other techniques or lighting tricks they used on Kratos to make him look this good should be commended ceaselessly.

There is one cutscene in the game that exactly fit your link :

The woman's face almost doesn't move, but you can clearly see her emotions : her contempt/anger are so obvious at 2min58. I was really impressed.

Other developers seem to need exaggerated facial expressions to attain the same level of fidelity.

Good observation, that part felt really natural indeed. Photomode is gonna reveal all kinds of awesomeness confirmed.

It's crazy how they much resources they devoted to Mimir's head, it looks better than most game's main character's face lol.
Kratos tho..
