Thought I'm gonna show you guys the state of the art, this was just posted by my pal at Weta. Furious 7 Paul Walker CG head.

Also keep in mind that they had no facial scans at all! Everything was built by hand, using photographs, footage, and Walker's brothers' scans as reference.
That is incredible work, bravo to your pal and their colleagues at Weta!
Don't worry, you can now be replaced by a lighter minded digital version. That's incredible. Is it weird that one of the first things that came to my mind was a not too far future where all sorts of fake/counterfeit videos could be made, using CGI models that look real, with all sorts of legal repercussions?
What was that? I need to lighten up? Oh.

Until they make an phone app for it in future, which is frighteningly in the realm of possibility.
Yup, the technique has probably been used on much older movies but I remember watching a feature on Titanic (1997) about how they digitally composited Kate Winslet's face on the study double running down the corridor away from the tide of water.Digital stunts are nothing new and they use them constantly on modern action blockbusters [especially in Marvel's flicks]. I'm not sure that RDJ's digital clone was used for "acting scenes".
