8 more Ace Combat 6 pics

The ground detail looks pretty amazing.
Never really played a flight simulation on console but this looks might tempting. Just need a console now :D

Looks great? Are we watching the same things? The 3d buildings looks like something taken from Google-Earth.

The rest of this "great" ground detail is a big 2d texture taken from a satellite, mixed with a couple butt ugly tree sprites. It looks flat and ugly.

This screens dont show a very impressive game. Its satisfactory though but I am sure they could have done better judging from what great results they achieved on the PS2

But this looks as if they took the PS2 series, enhanced the resolution and some polygon detail on the planes and thats it.

Sigh..

Am I the only one who thinks this game looks awesome? You can hardly expect a flight sim to have insane levels of detail when it's streaming of a dvd...
The jets look fantastic. Gotta love the eurofighter :)

Ok pic 3 looks pretty iffy I admit but still.

Are you implying that the streaming speed is the bottleneck of this game graphically? I can tell you right now, just by looking at it, that streaming speed is not an issue in this game..

Or are you implying that you cannot have much detail because a dvd9 can only hold 8.5GBs? Because again, i think you would be mistaken. (Hint* Flight Simulator X *hint)

What you see here is either a bottlenecked caused by budget, or developer ambition.

graphics are okay-- the main point of AC6 is online gameplay, including co-op, large-scale battles, dynamic operation system (branching within a mission I think?)
and Allied Support System (call for support from friendly air, land and sea forces).

I want this game, like yesterday. AC6 sounds like what AC5 was going to be, before Project Aces cut out the online support (would've been difficult on PS2 i guess).

I'm very disappointed TBQH, the textures look pretty bad, the planes models look kinda blocky and you can spot some jaggies too. We'll see how the final version turn out.

I hope you do realize that the data on FSX discs are extremely compressed, and are not decompressed in real time. That's why the needed hard drive space is much greater than that of the DVD. While it is true compression techniques are used anyway on consoles with regards to disc media, it must be in real time and therefore is doubtful to achieve the level of compression when compared to a non-real time technique. FSX also streams from the hard drive into the game world.

The ground textures look really bad, like if they were screenshots taken out of google earth. The planes also seem to lack shadowing.

Lets see how the final game turns out to be, it could be an issue of the game being still on pre-alpha stages.

The game looks like a very marginal improvement over the previous games, I'm disappointed and it sucks because I'm a huge AC fan..

Namco just does not have a clue this gen it seems(Graphics).

It looks like that's all they did and they're probably using alot of the same engine assets and models just upgraded and of course in HD.

It's not a completely horrible looking game and will look decent in motion but I expected a lot more given what they accomplished on the PS2 to be honest.

It seems to have been downgraded a bit but to compare it to the PS2 version is ridicolous.

As for the grounds and blurry textures, this is common on flight games where there are large areas to render and to store on either the HDD or DVD/other media and stream from.

FSX takes up ~14GB on the HDD, 11GB for scenery (world parts, objects, textures) and 4GB for the rest.

AC5 The Unsung War (PS2).

It seems that we have indeed reached the uncanny valley. Last gen, gamers oohed and ahhed when games did anything better than their predecessors. You know, things like "The gunfire actually lights up the room," "shadows move and contort with your flashlight," "the NPCs' lips actually move as they talk," "detail textures really enhance the look of things," or "one can travel all around the game world without load screens."

Now, people pronounce that they are gravely disappointed with games when they are distinguishable from reality, when foliage has a draw distance, when the same texture is used twice, when the player can move the camera close enough to a texture to see its resolution, when a model is visibly made of polygons, and so on.

Dude, while the bars are certainly set higher with every new era of console technology, it doesn't change the fact that this game, in its current state, to be blunt, is ugly, compared to what they hardware they are running on.

This looks like they took google earth, added "next-gen silver water" and added some decent looking airplanes.
