360's freezing/overheating

XB360's freezing because they're overheating. Something of an oxymoron, that. :D
This is the plus side to the old Europe Last (of the northern hemisphere) hardware release. We got the bug-fixed v1.01+ hardwares.

Yes, but if the PSU is overloaded, it doesn't matter if it's external or internal.
Sorry, I've misunderstood you. I thought you meant the heat radiating from the PSU pushed the X360 over the edge.

I had no worries on mine.

I'm betting it's the most reliable console yet. Just a feeling. And backed up by the power brick and Microsoft's money.

It IS somewhat louder than an Xbox, I noticed.

My Xbox 360 has been freezing when I'm playing PDZ, PGR3, and Halo 2. It would freeze about the same time after I load the game. The game would freeze somewhere within the game and the ring of light doesn't change, it's still green with the one controller I have connected.

I played Kameo thought for almost an hour without hiccups, the rest of the games I tried would crap out within 10 minutes.

I don't think this is an overheating issue, sure the CD comes out piping hot but the air blowing out the console is cool. Oh, and I even tried turning it on the side to see if it helped but it doesn't. Well, back to playing more Kameo. I hope it's somekind of software issue which can be fixed instead of something hardware.

Even if the consoles didn't freeze, it can't be good for the discs in the long term if they get so hot.
But more game sales for MS then, if people must buy the same game twice or thrice to replace the melted discs :D

oh well i guess the guy who made the barbeque PS3 mockup must be cooking up something on his x360 instead... for the time being...

I'll say this. If the 360 is any indication the PS3 will run quite hot.

And no way could the Revolution handle this type of heat dispersion. My 360 is pushing air out a good 10 degrees warmer than what my PC produces.

If the actual problem is the PSU, then it makes sense disconnecting the HD would help as then the xbox360 does not draw as much current from the PSU.
2.5" HDDs draw very little power. Besides, 2.5" units draw 5V power, or maybe 3.3 in the case of SATA, while the x360 itself mostly draws from the 12V rail of the PSU.

I don't think there is enough time to do anything to them, less than two weeks left.

No, not now. Traditionally EU being several months later, though people had to wait, did also mean we got more reliable gear. Worldwide launches means that's no longer the case, and early adopters can be earlier, but also with the risk of more troubles.

Have people experiencing freezing checked their media for obvious defects? There was talk about the DVD-ROM scratching the discs a few weeks back. Could it be that that is a real problem and scratched media read errors, coupled with an unelegant error handling system, are causing the crashes?

If the air is coming out cool it could be a bad sign, especially since powderkeg said his comes out very warm. It may be that if they did a really bad thermal paste job, that heat from the cpu isn't being transferred well to the heatsink, and thus the heatsink is remaining cooler while the chip itself is getting very hot.

Loudness

In terms of loudness, can anyone guess as to what other noises makes the equivalent noise as the 360? I just want to get an idea of what the noise is. My powermac G4 is pretty loud, though not as loud as the "wind tunnel" Power macs. My new powerbook is whisper quite.

Basically, how loud is it compared to the old PS2s. Not the slim lines.

Imagine how loud it would be with the power brick inside the case.

I wonder how the PS3 tackles this problem...

According to "Joystiq"
1.Old, clunky refrigerator
2.Xbox 360
3.PlayStation 2 (fat version, not slim-line)
4.Panasonic PT-AE700U projector
5.GameCube
6.Xbox 360 power supply
7.IBM T42p (Laptop)
8.Dell Latitude C610 (Laptop)
9.iBook G4 (Laptop)

What's the difference between 1 and 6? Is 6 refering to the power brick? I thought that was fanless....

The fat ps2 was loud so Im surprised how it can be louder.

The power brick has fan(s?) of it own. So actually it'll be xbox360 noise + powerbrick noise= xbox360 system noise
