Take a look a this video : COD3 (360 & PS3), why 360 looks darker (too dark for me) compared with others consoles, i also noticed this in GOW, is because Xenon can't create a better ilumination or something like that?

It's more likely that the post processing is different, it's possible the 360 is using 10 bit HDR, it's impossible to tell.

X360 and PS3 do treat image output differently though, on a PS3 230 something is white and < 8 or so is black, this is a carry over from NTSC blacker than black whiter than white. On X360, 0 is black, 255 is white. So X360 has higher dynamic range FWIW.

Interestingly the reverse was true of Xbox and PS2, so it might be a result of the NVidia video out.

AFAIK On any HD signal there is no range clamp required, so X360 technically has the correct output, not that it matters. And AFAIK on any none transmision signal blacker than black an whiter than white aren't ever required.

Has anyone done a direct side by side comparison on identical displays? Because that could simply be due to the capture. Who knows how the authors of these clips captured the movies. I don't even know of any HD capture cards, so it could easily be filmed off the screen.

Even a gamma setting or other picture output tweak could cause that, let alone the myriad of factors that affect filming a TV screen. ERP's explanation makes a lot of sense too.

The 360 version seems alright to me, the PS3 version seems way too bright to me. Then again it could be my monitors. I think Mintmaster might be right with the capturing.

Funny, for me the PS3 colors seemed all washed up...

But thats not only on cod3, pretty much every multiplataform game has these tone diferences between them two, its probable what ERP said...

I'd thought the same. The PS3 did strike me as washed.

Not sure about COD3, but Gears looks better on my TV (XBR800 CRT) after I set the video option to "Vivid". I thought "Default" was a little too dark in certain areas, but "Vivid" is great.

hmm whats weird is that the brightness on ps3 games range at one setting- so if i want to play COD3 at one setting on my TV i can apply the same settings or moreover not change anything and ill have the same look and brightness on other games like Ridge racer 7 and Cod3 and Marvel UA, all at thes same settings and more over if i switch to Resistance same brightness and contrast settings look great. Whereas on the 360 on a game like Kameo where the settings would rock and make the game flourish (to me kameo is prob one of the best looking 360 games-) the same settings wouldnt work for COD2, PDZ or Condemend- Condemend i can understand because its definitly just a Darker game but for the other two not so much.

But as far as the 2 comparisons on COD3- to me the 360 should be a little brighter and the ps3 should be a little less bright. That being said both those pics dont look ANYTHING alike on a real TV. on bot hsystems they look much different- and the ps3 definitly doesnt stick out to be that BRIGHT. how do we know that they didnt have settings changed on the tv's even if they say they do (which they didnt i dont think)

1up's article showing the side by side stated that they used the exact same capture equipment, tv and cables.

FYI, COD3 has a menu brightness adjustment so maybe that got tweaked?

I noticed this in the comparison article over at 1up (where they trash the PS3 beyond belief!). IMHO, it reminded me of BF2 on PC versus it's console counterpart. It seemed darker, but that was probably done to hide it's lack of detail...dunno. Maybe someone should just ask the dev's about it. Do we have any dev's here with multiplatform experience?

doubtful this was a reason for this game as it looks amazing (2nd only to GoW IMO) and the detail is all there if you turn up the gamma a bit.

on the whole though in the scheme of the game, the better contrast adds a more realistic depth and feel of the lighting in the game. I prefer it somewhere between the two screens shown above (360/PS3).

BTW... these vids and pics do NO justice to how good this game looks in real life on an HDTV... no justice.

Yeah, I agree on the amazing part. I wasn't implying that it's inferior to it's PS3 counterpart. I was just thinking out loud!

Really? You stated that it was to hide inferior textures, and then tried to pass that off with a "dunno". Yeah....

I noticed the same thing in Madden07, the PS3 version looks washed out (faded).
