[360] Splinter Cell: Conviction

I have to admit, after reading up on their cutting edge lighting, unbelievable animation and interactivity with the environment, I'm skeptical of what level of AA (if any) they will be able to pull off in this game.

Maybe, I'm referring to the "they all had unrealistic AA, but they were probably taken running at 12 fps" comment.

They don't have unrealistic AA at all. Basically the screens look extremely good, so rather than giving them props, Todd chooses to call them bullshots. Like I said, predictable.

Never mind the screen-shots look like PR shots and don't match the game-play video. Didn't you guys fall for the same hype in Forza 2? Everyone releases bogus over AA'd screen shots, why some of you lap it up is beyond me.

Well, for me screnshots do look like the gameplay video (and trailer) we've seen. It's not like these screenshots have incredible image quality (like Haze or R&C Future screenshots).

How are these screens over AA'd :?: You can clearly see aliasing at certain edges and a reasonable amount of anti-aliasing elsewhere.

What these shots are suddenly bullshots now? Splinter Cell: DA had 4x AA. I see aliasing in the pictures, and it looks exactly like the gameplay we have been shown.

Maybe this is more than 4x AA, in all honesty, i don't remember how much 8x looks like, its certainly not 16x.

How many timnes have we fell for screenshots that don't match gameplay? I noticed they all had unrealistic AA, but they were probably taken running at 12 fps or done post capture.

Thats impossible. X360 can only do 4x AA, it cannot do more. Its impossible. It would be 0 fps. What are you basing this 12fps BS on ?

I also saw really bad frame rates in the game play video (in the small building where he was stacking the stuff by the door) sometimes the frame rate was single digits. But it's too early for that kind of talk IMO.

Single digits? So a framerate of 9 or lower? At 9 fps you can see every individual frame.

They reminded me of the R&C screenshots, but maybe they are just normal 4x. That being said releasing 4x AA screenshots does not mean you will get 4x AA in the released game, screenshots are for PR.

Who said anything about getting 4xAA in the final game? We all made comments on just the screenshots that have been released.

Maybe? No maybe, they are. The AA'd edges are clear everywhere if you stop and take a look.

Your statement was just wrong, and now you're making yourself look even worse for trying to defend it. This is one of those time you'll save alkot of face by just admitting you were wrong and moving on.

These are obviously not bullshots like the R&C screens with 16xAA. It has 4xAA, which IS a realistic level of AA for Xenos, and if you look into the backgrounds you can see flaws everywhere, for example look at the items on the desk in the backgrounds, or the potted plant in the corner, is that what you typically see in a bullshot? Hell, you need look no further than the desk in the foreground on the righthand side, look at the edges, that's what 4xAA looks like.

You are right, no one said that, but I think it could get implied and that is the danger. Screenshot set up expectations. If the released game really has 4x AA, then great, like Chef said more games need 4x AA to make them look truly next gen (all games, all next gen consoles).

True...

But then again once you've ran out to buy the game, dropped it into your system and start playing, any dissappoint you have will quickly dissappear against the immersion that only the game in-front-of-you-and-running can give..

Not to mention the fact that you're hardly going to take a AAA game back to the store after purchase, purely because some internet screenshots promised a level of AA that the game didn't/couldn't deliver..?

It doesn't look more than 4xAA, it may even be less and perhaps no AA. Makes me think how I play Stalker at 1280x1024 resolution on my 17" monitor, with mods for added lighting and "bloomish" glowing and the jaggies are minimal to none. And the game has no support for AA, lol!

Some angles of view may hide jagiess while other angles show them in their full glory. Also contrast/brightness/gamma settings and lighting/glow makes a difference in how well jaggies are "masked".

This game is tearing us apart! Though, I suppose that's usually the case with great looking games like this one.

I'm also concerned about the lack of gadgets though, they were half the reason I loved the series. On the other hand, I'm glad to see Ubi taking this game in such a different direction rather than recycling old gameplay.

Nah, according to the dev walkthrough, you now buy gadgets off the black market

Ok, fellas, time to take a deep breath and relax. Cool down!

Let me make one thing very clear: Insults, name calling or putting other people on blast will not be tolerated here. It's simply unacceptable.

Now a little note to the people who feel like backing up "their" men in an already horribly gone wrong thread with comments like "great character summary" etc., this behaviour is also completely unacceptable and - let me assure you - it will get you an infraction if you do it again.

After looking at the screenshots (not the video) the AA level seems selective. In spots it is at most 2xaa and in other spots of the same image it seems well over 8 or even 16x aa, even on near vertical or horizontal angles.

My guess is Todd33 is right and these were touched up images. Jpeg compression could account for some smoothing but I have my doubts.

The video itself is another story. Obviously compression would again play a role but it seems to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 4xaa. If this video was demonstrated on a xb360 that's one thing. If the demo unit was a pc then my skepticism I think is warranted.

Also in the direct video it lists 1280x720 as the res but after examining paused screens the res looks off. It looks like it is upscaled.

4xaa on xb360 isn't out of the question, but with everything else they are pushing in this game I'll believe it when I see it.

X360 cannot do higher AA than 4x. Its not possible. So framerate would be 0, if it had unrealistic AA. .

I never said more than 4x, how many shipped games have 4x AA? I also said it could have post processing (I doubt the PS3 does 16x AA for R&C pics ;) ). You might want to drop the subject and stop instigating.

Single digits? Really? I didn't notice 9fps. 9fps is so slow, you can see each frame update.

Did you watch the dev video with the narration? Did you watch the part toward the end I referenced? I'm not claiming the game should be ready for release, but it had some really bad stutters and yes I can judge frame rate pretty well after having Fraps running for years at home and work.

I guess I should ignore your bait, but having an opinion or making a observation that you don't like is not against forum rules as I pointed out to you already.

You said, "Unrealistic level of AA". That implies more than 4x, because well, SC: DA had 4x AA on the X360.

How many games have 4x AA? I don't know, but there are a few.

SC:DA
GR:AW1 (MP)
GR:AW2 (MP)
Hitman: Blood Money

Im not investigating anything, im just curious where you drawed this 12fps number from..

Seing how, you are guy who makes a big deal of being against FUD. I'm curious. What your basing this on?
