[360] Forza Motorsport 3

I'm pretty sure it does NOT use the same ingame car models during replay mode. During replay the car models have very low polygon counts. You could easily verify this when using the pace camera.

So replay has models lower-quality than ingame car models :?:

Ok, so "ingame" was a type. I thought it was known from the demo that replay used the car models from gameplay (variable LOD), whereas the dash and PM used the higher LODs (the highest of which doesn't appear to be ingame?).

Yes, with the exception that, as pointed out below, the player car has a different LOD from the non player cars as well, in replay mode, and I think maybe also in gameplay or other modes, not sure.

No, in replay mode, the cars are the same, the shots below shows photomode model for the blue car, when switching to replay mode, the blue car is the same model as the red car seen in photomode.

To clarify.

the only difference between photomode and replay/gameplay is the player's car LOD, which is at the highest when switching to photomode. And of course, after taking the picture, it adds more AA, but that's all.

In other words PM cars have higher polygon counts than replay cars.

Not good

To clarify.

First I saw E3 videos and I thought ok, but not great. But I felt that maybe final version is better.

Then I read the reviews and they say "wow" great graphics but then I see this pictures and the graphics are bad.

I cannot believe that they use just texture with transparency for the front and back grills. This is terrible. Also polygons are not enough. I feel like I can count them for the cars.

I do not think this is 10x more polygons than Forza 2. Xbox360 has great polygon power but this game has very little. Is there a technical reason (tiling?) or is this bad programming?

ps. I do not care about photomode graphics. I only care about in-game graphics for my question. Thank you.

Strange. I thought it looked really good. but now you mention it.

I know! It's just not right! But then I can never get enough polygons. I counted 64387, how about you?

Lazy programmers I believe. Also programmer art always sucks.

You're right. When driving at 150 miles an hour, with the framerate running at a solid 60fps and the game rendering some wonderfully intricate and well realised environemnts, I'm often thinking (just as I'm breaking for the next corner, trying to get in the right line to attempt an overtaking manouver coming out of said corner) to myself, "that tailight isn't perfectly round!"

It's a disgrace.

Right about that point is when I'd probably crash since I'm staring so fixedly at the rear lights.:p:D:LOL:

imo gfx is rly good from the moment when u start the race and finish last lap and thats most importand for me, and tracks looks better to. GFx in replays is bad but in other hand it always was in FM1 and FM2. Stop whining is overall great looking game do few laps and see for yourself. And gameplay is blast but in other hand always was ;).

The graphics are great. Most of the backlash has been because of the terrible and dishonest PR not the graphics themselves.

I am most dissapointed with the career mode i wish they just had a list of races on a map with specific entry requirements that you could work your way through. I dont get that same sense of progress and achievement with the current implementation. I know i am probably in the minority here though.

Ok, it has been suggested that you master 1 or 2 cars per class to get a good feel and focus on the nuances of the driving.

Is anyone brave enough to recommend 1 or 2 cars for each class? Not necessarily "best hot lap" car, but a solid competitor for a range of environments and something that is nimble enough for competitive racing.

I have stuck with my real life car so far, Mitsubishi FTO, and just use the quik upgrade option upgrade/downgrade it to the class i need. Havent had any problem winning races against better cars.

Well, maybe a little because of the graphics also though. They really can be quite sparse at times (at times it looks very nice as well though).

What do you mean exactly? Right now you have a map view that contains all events available, with events marked in green that you can enter right now with your current car, in blue with all events you can enter with another car you own, and in white for all events you cannot enter yet because you do not have a suitable car available. Isn't that a lot like what you are referring to? And then besides that you have the auto-calendar / career mode which just generates an event list automatically with weekday and weekend races, etc.

(I do agree its extremely sterile though!)

@Joshua, beyond the FF/RWD/AWD/MR configurations, the differences between the cars aren't that big (a few heavy and light weights excepted) and you don't really have to learn the nuances of a specific car. It's much better to develop a dynamic sense of paritcularly brake capabilities of a car, so that you can switch between different cars with more ease (useful for multiplayer). Good knowledge of the track is much more important for winning your races.

Most efficient in terms of cash is to use the cars that you win for leveling up and upgrade those pre-race as much as you can.

I'm doing the same thing, but so far I've been trying to keep the car stock. I'm also doing a lot of driving in the cockpit view. It's amazing how detailed the cockpits are in this game!

Ok, I got round to driving one lap (I think all but maybe one clean) on each track in the Time Trial. It puts me at 25 out of 16,520 currently, but that doesn't mean anything other than that very few have done all races. My times at many of these tracks are really horrible, but at least now I'm familiar a little bit with all tracks and won't be caught out as badly in multi-player. I'll come back from time to time to the various tracks as I get more familiar with them. There are a few very nice tracks in there. I hate that Sidwinder test track though, give me Complex String any time - it's a much better testing and training track, thanks to its thematic approach.

Anyway, total time is 1 h 15:27. By comparison, the current number three (who also drives with no assists at all) has 0:57:02.969! I should have played Forza 2 more in preparation I guess. ;) On the other hand its quite refreshing to play a game where I've got well over 10 tracks that I've got a lot to learn on.

I find out that Leaderboards are quite glitchy. There are some times that are minutes more than my time and yet I am 240th in Nurburgring and they are 20-30th... Am I missing something here?

Anyway there's also shadow glitches... they disappear and appear back and forth...
