[360] Alan Wake - Still awake

Well gametrailers seems to have been hammered hard the past couple days with drops in service. So it wouldn't surprise me if they've temporarily disabled certain high bandwidth videos.

That IGN Demo is just a lower res video re-encoded to 720p. It wasnt actually captured from the original 720p feed. If you watch it you can clearly see the buzzing and aliasing in that video. I hope it was a mistake by IGN in that they used the wrong source when encoding, otherwise its a very cheap and misleading tatic.

As a paying Insider member, I found this example very anoying.:devilish:

I think it's back up in high-res.

This game looks fucking excellent. Has it been confirmed for Q1 2010?

Q1 010 will be big. Seems Sony had early 09 mostly to itself (as far as exclusives) with KZ2, but in Q1 010 we have Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake, GT5, and GoW3 all slated, and I'm probably missing some.

Eh, did they finally announce a release timeframe for GT5? I must have missed that. I know that was one of big things from the Sony Keynote was that no release timeframe was even hinted at.

Oh, so it's still everyone just taking a potshot as to when they think it will release. :)

Well, at least I definitely have Alan Wake to look forward to at the beginning of 2010. :)

Interview (Google translated)

No longer open-world:

HCG: When the game was announced in 2005, was said to be in open world. However, as work with the new episodic structure? The game is now a more linear experience?

Markus: The episodic structure has always been a part of Alan Wake. Despite the game being built from scratch in an open world of technology, we wanted to give the player the best roller coaster ride of emotional possible during the game, and a more linear structure is more logical to give the experience of suspense, giving the best impact possible in terms of plot. We removed the structure of sandbox for achieving this story full of hooks, having said that, as our tools and technology allow us to define the scope of every town, there are episodes in the game with many opportunities for exploitation, if the player wants more research into the mystery, meeting people and finding hidden extras.

Remedy Entertainment Licenses Umbra for Alan Wake

HELSINKI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Remedy Entertainment, the developer of the hit game series Max Payne, announced today that it has licensed Umbra Software's rendering optimization middleware for their highly anticipated new title Alan Wake.

"Umbra gave a significant boost in rendering performance on the Xbox360, and at the same time made our content creation faster. With Umbra's culling technology, Remedy's team can add more details to Alan Wake's world and concentrate on the cool visuals while minimizing tedious work such as adding portals," said Remedy Entertainment's Development Director Markus M?ki.

Umbra is a GPU accelerated rendering optimization middleware available for PC, Xbox360 and PS3. Umbra has two major application areas: it increases frame rate dramatically, and makes the content pipeline faster and more effective.

"It's been a pleasure working with Remedy on Alan Wake," said Marko Nurro, Umbra Software's CEO. "Remedy is one of the most innovative and technically competent studios in the world. Their games just rock, simple as that."

According to a website sourcing Finnish magazine Pelaaja, Alan Wake is not confirmed on the PC.

- Perhaps the biggest surprise is that Remedy haven’t spoken about the PC version of the game yet and the release of a PC version is up in the air. When asked about it Remedy replied saying that both Microsoft and them are only speaking about the Xbox 360 version at the moment.

Any Finns on B3D that can confirm this? Tried to find the Alan Wake thread on the PC forum, but last post there is over 2 years old.

I haven't read the magazine myself, but IIRC the news about that popped up while back in Finland, however considering it was used to demonstrate and promote Quad-cores with Intel, I'd say it's quite safe to say there will be PC-version

Yes it says that in the article, but I'm guessing that it's just for marketing purposes . It could become a timed exclusive, but I'm sure it will be on PC too.
