Doesn't look as good as many next-gen stills. Of course I'm only saying that because it's on XB360. Eh, what's that? You said don't raise the XB360 thing? Oops

They could also stand to be a little closer to their native rendering resolution, I suppose. Or at least, barring that, not be almost PSP dimensions. That would be nice...

This is easily the strangest game I've ever seen. My opinion of this game keeps changing over and over and over. It looks terrible, it looks OK, it looks good, it looks meh... I've never had that happen before. Strange game.

i think it looks good, maybe not as good as GOW, but if the gameplay is good, then it looks good enough for a 1st gen title.

All it comes down to really (to me) is the character models. Everything was upgraded nicely but it seems the time constraints affected the character models. Because of the environment upgrades and the flashy explosions (to me) it makes the models stick out like a sore thumb. It seems to mask this that they tried to go with a more cartoony character look. To me (because of that) it looks unnapealing with the environments that their in (which look very nice and real).

I do like the explosions though, its going to be fun blowing shit up.

I don't think there's much wrong in the PDZ graphics as such, but there has been variable quality shots lately.
The likely explanation is that they are simply from different levels/worlds. Some like the jungle look very good, while some of the inside levels look bland.
Overall the detai in levels isn't that high, much less than say in GoW.
Also maybe it's the lack of over the top shiny effects that makes the game look a bit duller in comparison, and that there hasn't shown any big cool monsters, just a few human enemies.
The latest videos do look so much better than what was shown at E3, now it actually looks like a next gen title. Also in the videos the grapics did show some neat shader effects that weren't over the top as in some other more showy titles.
One thing that worried me when looking at the videos was that the gameplay at least in those short clips seemed very uninspiring, and the levels a bit repetitive. Though it's unfair to judge by such short clips and not really knowing if there are other gameplay elements than just straight standard first person shooting

GOW is a 2nd wave title it not really fair to compare a launch title with a 2nd wave title (or worse a 2007 title like MGS4), not that PDZ looks that good compared to other launch wave titles, but it is more in line.

I thought it was a launch title? That was what I thought Moore and the others were saying at X05. Did I misinterpret it?

As to gameplay, it didn't look all that repetitive save fort he reloads. The videos I saw the player was reloading at what seemed like every few seconds. Seems a bit much, but honestly I don't play FPS games all that much, so I'm probably not much of a judge in how repetitive a game is.

I noticed that there is no jags on pics, perhaps they found that elusive aa switch.

No they found the "Resize Image" button in Photoshop. Those are downsampled pictures, from 720p to even lower res than current gen games. Obviously things will look smoother.

PDZ is launch title (11/15/2005).

Let me rephrase... I thought Gears of War was a launch title, or at least launch window. That's what I've been hearing coming out of X05, but there's been so much confusion, I might be wrong.

GoW was never a launch title. It has been 2006 since, well, forever.

Yeah, given that fact, the fact that it looks as good as it does now is pretty amazing.

No kidding, reminds me of Brute Force, which had really bad "good" graphics.
