1up.com TGS Podcast #1

I agree with Xbd and Heavenly. Shane absolutely dominated this show and it was almost like everyone else was afraid to disagree with anything he said. Everyone just nodded their head as he rambled on and on. What is his position at Ziff Davis by the way?

Well it happens sometimes people nod when they agree with someone you know ;)

The show btw was not 100% pro Sony, Shane also got some contra on his comments about LO for example and he also talked about not so "shiny" games like this shooter in the end (cant remember the name, taht PSP thingy)...

Shane could has been positive about PS3 without going with ****** wordings. I mean "xbox am cry" or Trusty Bell is a DC game i mean come on, leave this to gaf or other boards.

Otherwise, I do agree with him on other points like Kutaragi's keynote was pathetic but how anyone could defend this anyway?

That's why I dont bother anymore with these conferences which are boring to death.

In the end, Sony's was really good and promising for the future. Of course, the HDMI port for the normal pack is the best news to me from this TGS, simply because It's equivalent to a 100€ price-drop, which is nice! :)

Since Shane is a boob and an obvious troll/fanboi, lets flip the table:

You gonna take the stance that Trusty Bell looks like a DC title?

Exactly. I too felt when watching the video that shane basically took over and people were hesitantly agreeing with him.

1. The trusty bell looks like a dreamcast game is nonsense.
2. Sure it's fine to not like a certain game visually. but to say he didn't like LO graphics actually is more to do with it being on Xbox 360. Someone in the video even called him on it.
3. Him saying 'Xbox am cry"
4. Him saying something about the SDF (sony defense force) at the end.

Of course he's going to like or be happy wth just about everything sony does, he always is.

<snip>I agree Ken's keynote was outright boring, and that sony needs to give us actual information on the launch details,<snip>

You seem to confuse a keynote with a press conferance if you are implying that you wanted more PS3 info during the keynote.

I don't know about that! Unless they openly said that they "hesitantly" went along with Shane, it sounds like you're really reaching to discredit the guy. I'm sure if someone disagreed with him, they would've spoken up no doubt.

Yes, he's fanboi-ish with some of this terminology ("Xbots am cry"), but while "Xbots" around the world may not be happy with him, I found him quite entertaining. Think about it. He was pretty spot on saying that SONY had a great show. The rest of his comments, however colourful, we can just filter out (as per XBD's post).

I said it felt/looked like they hestiantly agreed with him. Not on all his points but quite a few of them I got teh impression they didn't compelyl agree, but didn't have a counter argument. It's not a stretch if more than a few people thought this.

Nothing wrong with saying sony had a great show, but he has never been the most investgative reporter or even all that critical when it comes to sony anyway. i mean he actually said the Xbox didn't show anything new or that we wouldn't expect, but the same could be said of PS3 for the show. We knew about everything before hand.

I'm implying I wanted more information during TGS overall. I know keynotes are not really all that exciting, but Ken's was outright boring for the most part. Though its mentioned that it may be due to the translator at hand for all the news reports. Either way, we should get more information next month, and I can live with that.

It seems your perception is vastly different from that of most people. Level5's RPG, 1080p/60fps RR7, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Gran Turismo HD, MGS4 gameplay trailer, the list goes on.

OTOH, Microsoft didn't show 30fps Forza 2 and 10-hour SP/8-player MP Gears Of War at the show floor and only had a chat with the press at a hotel. They had a pre-show conference to show off Sakaguchi's 2 RPGs and HD DVD though. So this is the way Microsoft, 1 year since the Xbox 360 launch, consciously chose for their TGS exhibition.

I for one didn't know they would lower the price of PS3 in Japan and add HDMI to the 20gig. But of course we know that everyone did ;)

level 5's RPG wasn't know about before hand? I'm fairly sure this game was annouced a while ago. GT HD and a new metal gear solid trailer wasn't known about before hand? I don't even consider the ninja gaiden remake something new. It's not a new game but an old with updated graphics and a few new features. let me be clear on this. i'm not talking about games we knew about that just hadn't seen yet. MS had some of those too.

The point I'm making, sony didn't introduce any serious new games we didn't already expect before the show started (unless you want to throw ninja gaiden in there). Shane made the comment that MS ddn't show anything new or bring anything new to the party, but as far as games goes, what did sony bring that was new? Other than a remake, all the other titles were expected.

Well, we can say also they reserved all this stuff for X06 show! ;)

Sorry but he list does not go on. Sony impressed with the level of their GFX apparently, but as far as new annoucnements go it was very very lacking.

The Factor 5 RPG was the only big announcement at the show, I was expecting at least a few big bombs, as was everyone else if you look at our poll where PS3 was supposed to 'crush' everything at the show.

Both players seem to be holding their cards faily tight, imo Sony must be waiting until after X06.

Not that I've been there, but I think Sony did quite well. I'd say there was lots of doubt amongst the non-FBs after their E3 showing and second delay/shortage announcement, but they apparently used the time to polish their launch lineup, resolve the HDMI issue and delivered quite a good show. I mean PS2 launched with what, Fantavision?

True, for most of the games on the show it was known well before that they were coming. However there was a lot of new material for these known games:
MGS4 gameplay footage, Motorstorm playable, Lair playable, Devil May Cry playbable, Virtua Fighter playable. Of course nothing of this came as a surprise, but still, gameplay footage is much more useful than cut-scene footage, and hands-on gameplay is a marked improvement over screenshots, no?

And AFAIK White Knight Story came out of nowhere, TGS was its public debut.

FWIW Blue Dragon gameplay footage was also not seen before TGS, but as I understood it Shane's "nothing new at all" was in reference to the HD-DVD addon drive announcements. He did acknowledge Blue Dragon being exactly the right kind of game for the Japanese market.
