1up.com TGS Podcast #1

Pretty meh all around, they basically bashed Sony for anything and everything they did last night. Even were pretty negative towards Heavenly Sword for having a gun in the new pictures, somebody needs to tell them there was a gun in the e3 2005 trailer. I agree Ken's keynote was outright boring, and that sony needs to give us actual information on the launch details, but the other stuff being said was pretty bad form imo. The media/screens/videos delivered last night were pretty impressive for the most part (which I guess they didn't see), but we still need more.

Supposedly theres another Sony event in October that all info will be given, kinda late in the game as I was hoping for some stuff last night, but atleast it's not the end of things to come.

At some point someone somewhere ought to comment on Linux. And the details of the online services. And all that other jazz.

I agree, theres many things missing in the grand scheme of things.
-online details
-launch details
-whats in the box
-what accessories available at launch
-how much those accessories cost
-other announced titles, exclusives, etc.
-operating system

probably missing some things, but you get the idea.

Yeah... heard that one before... :p

I didnt say it, thats coming from 1up.com. And it only makes sense to why they did not give out more info, they are waiting for the one next month. And I guess they wanted something to comeback on being that x06 is next week, which makes sense also.

Not even 30 seconds in, and they already dropped the F Bomb? What happened to professionalism?

Edit: Gets a lot worse a few seconds in. Ugh. NWS at ALL. It sounds like a bunch of teenagers.

Its always been 'the next event' and we're starting too see a pattern of non-information. I think the reality is that they really dont know what theyre going to be able to deliver for launch other than basic multiplayer built in to the games.

What's in the box is listed on their website, we know what the basic accessories are going to be - the same as every launch. There doesnt seem to be any reason to hold off until after X06, MS has their own plan and it wouldnt be affected one way or the other by what Sony says now or in October.

don't beleive the hype. If you beleive that you might beleive anything :) honestly i doubt there's another press conference in october bad boy. Sony will need to get focused for launch.

1up was specifically told by sony that there was another event, not like the febuary thing where nobody knew about it. chill out man, lets just wait and see. nobody is hyping this october event up.

Yeah, Sony's reluctance is bizarre.
However, I know there is another event planned in October, too. We're trying to figure out what's up at HQ ASAP for you guys.

Scoot said:
Yeah, I do.
I'm not going to say much more about that event now, though -- I don't know enough about it at 3:10 in the morning. The SDF can at least know that TGS isn't Sony's Custer-esque last stand, at least.

The Phil Harrison video at the top, Kaz confirms that there will be more events closer to launch (mainly in north america). To quote kaz..
"To talk more about our plans for launch, so you will get more information as we get closer, and we are doing something towards the end of october, so you can keep an eye out for that as well."

Guess I was just making stuff up Qroach, eh? ;)

Yeah that's the 1up show. At first I was a little shocked but once you realize they allow cursing on the show, you get used to it and basically forget about it, not saying I support it.

There's times they get out of hand though, especially Luke. Lately it seems a bit cleaner, or maybe it's my imagination.

I dont mind them being a little anti-Sony though, simply because GAF is so pro-Sony, that it's nice to get another perspective at times imo.

I think they might do well to cut the show to about 60 minutes though, rather than the sprawling 75-90 minutes they go now (this one is only 49 but probably due to it being part one of two). 60 minutes would leave you wanting more.

Gawd yeah, Luke Smith. He really goes out of his way to explore the outer reaches of language. It's just his trademark thing to do and he does it totally on purpose IMO.

The pre-TGS 1upshow has one particularly unneccessary part where he practically fails to say what he wanted to say because of that style (swaps out "multiple players" for "all kinds of motherf***ers" and loses the point of what he was trying to say in the process).

*ahem*

It's fucking shameful.

This is a very good move for Sony. With MS having x06 next week, Sony will get the last word in so to speak, before Nov hits. Console sales don't really increase in Oct, so it's perfect timing.

MS will announce one or two new games next week, and then Sony will probably drop some bombs a few weeks before launch, stealing as much thunder as they can. Sony's game now is still to stop people from buying 360 for the next 6 months.

I really doubt that Sony will drop any(more???) bombs before the launch. These pre-launch events sound to me like they will be of small-scale,something similar to what Nintendo has been doing for the wii launch.I don't expect anything comparable to something like X06.

As for the topic of this thread,i could care less about 1up,EGM or anything anyone who works for ziff media has to say about videogames.

I agree, its a pretty good strategy to keep a "hold" on the X06 excitment, this can kinda be seen with the TGS news already drowning out the Nintendo Wii hype from last week. And I'm sure the X06 news will drown out the TGS hype. It does sound like a good idea from that perspective.

Though a part of me wishes we could atleast get some solid information sooner, it almost seems a little late in the game. Late october would be like around 3 weeks before PS3 launch in Japan. Thats kinda cutting it close for people still on the fence.

Anyways, at the end of the day, it just means TGS wasnt the last chance, and news will come before launch. So I guess I can't complain too much. Lets just hope Ken keeps his words to a minimum this time around, let Phil speak next time.
