Game Streaming Platforms and Technology (xCloud, PSNow, GeforceNow, Luna) (Rip: Stadia)

Bummer. Guess I will go with my original idea of using a Raspberry Pi in a custom 3D printed enclosure.

If you are using a Steam Deck, you'll also want to grab Nvidia's new GeForce Now beta installer. Previously, users could get GeForce Now running on a Steam Deck by jumping through some hoops but now, the official installer will go through the effort of grabbing the Linux version of Chrome for you, and the web interface is now fully navigable with a controller, so you'll no longer have to rely on touch-screen input, or a keyboard and mouse.

If you are an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, you can get access to the PC versions of many Game Pass titles, including day-one access to games like Hellblade 2, via GeForce Now. Nvidia's service has a few key benefits over Xbox Cloud Gaming, as there are options for streaming at higher resolutions and frame rates.

GeForce Now gets 100 hour per month limit even for paying tiers. If you run out, you can buy more time at $2.99 / 15 hours for Performance or $5.99 / 15 hourse for Ultimate. Maximum of 15 hours of unused time per month will be rolled over to next month

At the start of next year, GeForce NOW will roll out a 100-hour monthly playtime allowance to continue providing exceptional quality and speed — as well as shorter queue times — for Performance and Ultimate members. This ample limit comfortably accommodates 94% of members, who typically enjoy the service well within this timeframe. Members can check out how much time they’ve spent in the cloud through their account portal (see screenshot example above).

Up to 15 hours of unused playtime will automatically roll over to the next month for members, and additional hours can be purchased at $2.99 for 15 additional hours of Performance, or $5.99 for 15 additional Ultimate hours.

Geforce Now shows sold out for all monthly plans and the free 1 hour sessions in my area (eastern US). The only options available are the day passes. Bizarre. Need to do better capacity planning there Nvidia.

They aren't actually sold out of capacity, it's because they are changing payment providers. Existing members basically have billing suspended (so they can play for free on their existing plan) but I guess no new signups are available.

Why are all memberships & gift cards sold out right now?
GeForce NOW is transitioning to a new payment provider. While we work through this transition, new sign ups for memberships & day passes along with gift card purchases will be paused.
You can sign up to be notified when new memberships, day passes and gift cards are available here: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce-now/memberships/.

When will I be billed next?
Billing will waived for the duration of the transition, pushing back your next billing cycle by the same length of time. We expect the transition will take a minimum of five weeks. Visit your account portal for further updates.

Will anything about my membership change during this time?
No, your account will remain in good standing during this time at your current membership tier. Billing is waived while we transition payment services.

In terms of the background I believe it's related to Digital River, which was a major e-commerce service used by many companies, going bankrupt. This might also be why interestingly I don't think Nvidia has any GPU buying options, including FE models, through it's own site.

Digital River, a Minnetonka-based e-commerce pioneer with a global client roster, is shuttering its headquarters and laying off 122 employees after more than 30 years in business.
The permanent layoffs, which include remote workers across the country, should start March 28, according to a WARN notice Digital River filed Monday with the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. The company is permanently closing its offices, the notice said.

Not sure what’s happening then cause I can still purchase day passes. Maybe they use a different provider for those.

I think they are just slowing rolling things up starting with the day passes. They were also blocked off at the beginning. It was just kind of a coincidental day passes were back up as you checked today.

Hi everyone, quick update on our available memberships. Tomorrow we plan to enable Day Pass purchases in the United States and Canada.

As noted previously, billing for all existing premium memberships has been pushed out during this payment transition. Members can check the account portal for updated timing on when their billing will resume.

Thanks!

Ok great. Planning to grab a few day passes next week while traveling.
