[PS3] Uncharted 2

I've now played through most of the game and i'm in a state of shock. Simply because of the quality that comes out of every second of the game.
Not just graphically and not necessarily from a technical side of things. The art is ridiculous, at times it makes me wonder how many artists they had working on this, and for how long - the textures and a some surfaces are so detailed and well drawn that it almost look like a big blockbuster movie - but the quality of the game, the production, everything is just flawless.
I'm not saying anything new really, we all knew and read about this before but i just had to post it.
A big WOW.

london-boy, good to have you posting again.

U2 really was something special. It'll be a bit of a come down but might be worth trying to get the first one too. I think it's a platinum title now so should be cheap.

Personally, I wasn't that amazed by "after Chapter 15 ends", but I was amazed by the whole game.
I heard a lot of stories about "after Chapter 15" before I got there, but as I reached "after Chapter 15", it was a slight letdown.
The whole game is amazing though, but imo "after Chapter 15" wasn't a highlight for me. It's hard to say what was, as the whole experience was just so much above anything else, presentationwise and how entertaining it was from start to finish.

Which one is 15?

I just finished the game. i dont think i ever finished the game in two days straight of gaming. Started last night, ended up in bed at 6am cause i just couldn't stop playing, woke up, went straight back and finished it!

Amazing.

It's the Nepal village.

Edit: No, 16 is the Nepal village

Ah yes, 15 is just before the village. personally i went WOW on other places, like the Path of Light bit, the final chapter when they enter the lost city (shambles land or whatever its called.
When you wake up in the village, it's so beautiful i went WOAH...

Ha ha, I finished Uncharted 2 overnight in one sitting also. I was half way through in Demon's Souls and wanted to take a peak at U2. Didn't think any game could grab me away from DS.

Decided to finish U2 so that I can reserve the rest of my time for DS.

The Nepal village right ? It captured the peacefulness very well. After so much gunfight and platforming, I didn't think the developers would insert a place like that in the game.

I am impressed by the Path of Light too, and the final platforming level (Can't remember what it's called). By the time I reached
Shambala
, I was already overloaded. Didn't pay too much attention to the surrounding except eager to find the final objective(s).

In MP, I really like the co-op in U2.

That's a pretty damn good ROI. Wasn't there a thread semi-dedicated to how poorly it sold? I think that topic should be revisited.

The numbers that have been floated recently are 2.5 to 3M copies.
So with the baseline EA rumour of 12-13 usd earnings per title, it means they have earned at least
12x2.5M = 30M which means on development costs they are 10M USD in the black.
Maybe Sony are breaking even on this game then, if we are to go with the mainstream notion of any game not selling 8M copies is not a success :)

Sony also get the $10ish back from the licensing fee that they don't have to pay. 1st party titles' returns are likely to be >$20 per unit sold, perhaps with U2 making $60 million so far. When you look at how profitable Halo has been with its sell-through, that seems reasonable to me.

Picked the perfect time to revisit the forums just in time to pick up a godly slice of gaming goodness!!

Totally!

Also, me being a bit of an old school gamer by today's standards, my jaw dropped a few times by the shading in some levels!
I know it's a bit commonplace these days to have nice looking shaders everywhere but for example the levels where it rains (and it doesn't just rain, it pours!) and you can see the water effects everywhere, even on the walls, i was shocked. It just looks so real!

Actually, U2 really is a great showcase for fancy shaders and does a better job than many titles to stressing the GPU. The water effects are definitely a high-point!

Uh-oh, where does it rain in U2 ? I have no recollection of the effect.
When you immediately get out of the Temple followed by the part where you escort the cameramen Jeff. And it was a damn hell of a rain effect...simply mindblowing imo
