Xbox : What should MS do next? *spawn

Might end up being a bigger win for PC gaming overall. I am sure if MS builds in a store front as a standard feature of the OS then it will be internet explorer and antitrust issues all over again, so we might see other DD services come packaged with the OS to facilitate choice.

Microsoft already has a store front built into the OS ...

Yeah, when sales die down, they might as well push out a relatively inexpensive port, assuming the QA for PC HW isn't that much. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A bit curious to see how Gears Ultimate will turn out.

I think that since Xbox One sales are relatively low compared to 360, they'll be more likely to port and expand sales to the PC. Also, having the games in the Windows Store, with hooks into Xbox Live will maybe help grow Xbox Live on the PC. I wouldn't expect these games to end up on Steam.

I thought MS was claiming the One's sales were ahead of the 360 in the first year after launch?

Speaking of gaming on PC I think that traditional PC gamers do not get it, MSFT needs mobiles games and apps as a selling point on top of what Windows does (already) well.
Xbox Live should be dropped as it is confusing when accessible from multiple OS and platform.

How is it confusing? Windows 10 has an Xbox App. It'll come on every single Windows 10 install. When you load it up, it's pretty self-explanatory.

just like turning on Steam. And I'm sure PC gamers get that.

They're talking about the game streaming from Xbox to Windows 10, but I expect to see Windows ports of Xbox exclusives, just not necessarily when they're first released.
I don't think they are, otherwise it's basically untrue - Xbox isn't coming to Windows. The footnote describes several different Xbox on other device features...
Broadband internet required for some features (ISP fees apply). Xbox Live features only available with supported games in Xbox Live-supported countries, see xbox.com/live/countries. Limited number of games available in 2015 that support cross-device play; additional games to follow. Stream to one device at a time; streaming with multiplayer from Xbox One requires home network connection and Xbox Live Gold membership (sold separately); Gold also required for multiplayer play on Xbox One. DirectX 12 only available with supported games and graphics chips. Game DVR only available with supported hardware. To check for compatibility and other important installation information, visit your device manufacturer’s website and the Windows 10 Specifications page. Xbox One, PC/Tablet and Phone versions of games all sold separately.
so the same game on multiple devices, but sold as individual items.

Also, multiplayer on PC doesn't require Live Gold. That makes XB1 a bit of a money sink. Apart from Games with Gold, what'll be the value in a Gold subscription?

Possibly dedicated host servers for the multiplayer games on paid xbox love, where as the free pc /xbox silver gaming multiplayer would not have dedicated hosts?

There's some changes in the Halo5 game concerning what requires xbox gold service and what doesn't compared with previous Halo games.

Also, while MS has control over what they allow as cross-play, cross-purchase, etc.. they don't have control of other publishers. If you want to play Halo5 you may very well be able to buy it once and play it on the Xbox or the W10 PC. If you want to play CoD, you can either buy it on PC and play it there or buy it on the Xbox and then play it on the Xbox or stream it to your PC if you want to play it there.

Maybe they'd just do a similar "next-gen upgrade fee" ala 360 -> XO i.e. XO to PC.

.......ahem. "next-gen" ;p

I don't see them doing cross-play for COD, let alone any MP game that would benefit from superior mouse controls. If cross-play MP is out of the picture, it'd still be nice if they allowed cross-play co-op. e.g. Gears of War...

Cross-play and cross-buy are both optional for devs/pubs. Sounds like both are options. I'm kind of wondering what will happen with the service fee for Live on Xbox One. Will multiplayer become free? Will the price drop, or disappear altogether?

I expect them to keep it. It's a money maker, XB owners are used to it, and they can leave it that way until the console fizzles out and potential XB1 owners move to consolified PCs to play the same games.

On Google Play services, they are free below a certain threshold but then the developer needs to pay. I can see MS going that route on PC, so monetising the developers for the titles. That'll make ongoing fees in games (whether subscriptions of microtransactions) all the more popular.

Do you not segregate your online players then? So you end up with Gold online community, silver online community and the not online community, is that a good thing?

The community is naturally segregated with a PC community and a console community. Removing live fees won't change that reality.

I imagine MS will enhance Games with Gold, offer it on the PC side and try to get large segments in both communities to invest into the Live service.

MS lists cross-platform play on the public web page. Given Live runs on Azure as I understand it, it could readily be extended to PC. Maybe there'll be a premium Live service on PC for dedicated servers?

Does that mean the 360 sold more or less in its first year globally compared to the Xbox One? Maybe I'm being dim, but that just talks about 360 sales being down for a quarter?
