Xbox overtakes Wii As Most Searched for Console

There is some interesting information in the article. Such as..........

Demand is high for a price drop - in the past four weeks, the top search term with the words “price dropâ€￾ was “xbox 360 price dropâ€￾. There were 70% more US searches for “xbox 360 price dropâ€￾ than for “ps3 price dropâ€￾.

That is interesting, I do think a price drop would be massive for the Xbox 360.

Agreed, this could be an indication, but ever so small, that there are a lot of people out there just waiting for a price drop before they get one and that is why I still think that those $50 is not enough...

You also realise that the real reason this is going on is because of the looming release of Halo 3.

That and that many XBox fans are more likely to have multiple computers, contributing the search as well as Microsoft employees jk

Xbox fans are more likely to have multiple computers? I've been known to pull some crazy "facts" out of the air but that's just crazy.

This statemente is curious at best: it's based on the top two entries only. There were 17% more searches if you consider the entire table (23.53% vs 20%), not 70%.

Inst there a rumor about a 360 price drop? If so that could have boosted the searches.

But if not it still not suprissing me, since before launch I always thought that a low price should be their primary concern (given the rest of the strategy) for them to have real sucess over PS3/Wii.

Looking at the graph it seems that the real reason is the tapering off of Wii searches. Post holidays it seems that the 360 was relatively constant with a sustained upswing starting in May till present. Conversely it would be possible that a large percentage of Wii searches are from those whom are looking for available units.

What could have been the reason for the wii's late may spike? (and subsequent trailing off...)

There is certainly a upward trend for the 360, however I don't think the same could be said of the ps3. It possibly is climbing, but it's hard to be certain.
In any event, it's something for both sony and particularly nintendo to be concerned about.

One would imagine a system selling at twice the rate of the 360 would see approximately twice the web interest, and for the better part of this year that has been the case. The trouble is the very short term trend shows nintendo declining (or at least having a quiet patch). Given their forecasts are for increasing sales (well I think they were), it will be interesting to see what affect the likes of Wii Fitness may have...
