Xbox live price going up !

I'm just wondering what exactly the user data service is, and whether Live has something similar considering Fable 2 seems to do some of the same things as Demon's Souls.

Sounds like a (near) real-time user data recording and distribution service. Different apps can record user data and replay them later, or present them in-game on-the-fly.

I think people are drawing analogy from different areas (anchovies, HDD, etc.). I think it's all down to individual preferences and value judgement.

I just renewed for a year.

If I were to take this deal. Would it set me up until 2012?

If I understand it correctly, then the months you bought with the code will be added to what you already have, and will be used first.

Just as a point regarding Demon's Souls leveraging user data, Fable 2 did the same thing in a much more primitive form with the player orbs showing up inside your game. You could talk to eachother within proximity and watch the orbs move throughout your world, and trade items, or invite another orb into your game. It didn't have accurate ghosts, invasions or notes, but in essence Fable 2 was very much a simplified version of the same thing. It might be possible to do the same things, especially now that Live seems to be allowing games to take advantage of higher data rates now that the legacy system is out.

I remeber they talked alot about online in Fable 2 before launch, but didn't ever know how it ended up working, since the features were delayed when the game released, and reviewed. - Alot of the things looked really cool tough.
Just went to youtube and looked at how some of it turned out - seems like it's orb's are serverbased markers used for establishing contact, wich you can turn on/off on options, while the remaining stuff pretty much seems peer to peer. :)
I don't think the data rates are/have been the problem before, it's probably that they didn't want too much server-usage. :-/

I don't think a taking inspiration from Demon's Souls system would be a particulary good fit for Fable 3, especially from a story-perspectve.
- I think it would be a better suit for them to take inspiration from WKC's GeoRama/GeoNet, for Fable 3 I believe. A mixture of those systems could be really great. :)
Anyway, I'm looking forward to see Fable 3, I've allways tought it seemed like a cool game, and now it's coming to PC aswell. :)

The orbs are somewhat like a ghost in that they track the players movement, they just can't see the animations of what they're doing. I imagine the data limit on Live was fairly restrictive for some games. I'm hoping the next Battlefield game might support more players.

Deal alert: Just upgraded my Live for $29.99+ avatar item from the Dashboard.

I keep wondering if it is pointless for me to do these knowing I will be switching to the family pack. I remember there being talk about if you had a current sub that it might count towards reducing the cost of the family pack but I have yet to read any details about it.

Hopefully for the Canucks, this will be enabled for their Xbox Live dashboards when it goes live. Netflix is bringing a streaming-only service to Canada source.
