Xbox Business Update Podcast | Xbox Everywhere Direction Discussion

Probably wiaiting official confirmation but it seems price will increase by 50 euros in Europe.

Official:

EDIT: Xbox Games will be 80 dollars too
Must be those tariffs. This could affect the competition as well. Though if things remain like this. For 2TB you get a PS5 pro for $699. Basically the Series X costs the same as a 1TB PS5 pro. This isnt a good thing generally for the industry.

Either would be good.
Hmmm, would it? In terms of business, if the same number of people start streaming more, your costs are going up while your revenue isn't. I guess more engagement proves more value and then you can increase your price. Potentially long term you'd think more engagement would be more word-of-mouth growth eventually too.

Can PS5PRo's price stay the same in the US? I doubt it, so expect a price increase there eventually to accommodate tariffs.

The end of April is about 30 days from announced tariffs. So most companies were waiting as long as possible to delay price increases with whatever inventory they had already. I assume MS inventory is much lower than Sonys. But most of US is now expecting to see price increases across the board as we head into May.

Here in Europe, Xbox Series X will cost £499.99 / €599.99 - an increase of £20 / $50. The 512GB Xbox Series S will meanwhile cost £299.99 / €349.99 - an increase of £50 / €50. If you're splashing out on the 2TB Xbox Series X model, that's up £40 or €50 to £589.99 / €699.99.
just in case they weren't selling much. If they sold 5 consoles until now, with this increase they will go into negative territory.

Yea. MS is doing gamepass correctly now. If you multi release constantly with gamepass, people are less likely to unsubscribe. Games only needs their own space when it comes to retail purchasing. But sub services you need to keep people from unsubscribing so you just keep the content loaded up more than they can play. It’s the only way to properly fight back against the other forms of entertainment. If you keep giving every game its own space and window, people are going to snipe the games they want to play. If you keep a large flow of quality titles people will keep using the service, they are less likely to unsubscribe

You can play on their platform on any laptop, any old xbox one, any mobile devices, Samsung and LG TVs, as well as being able to buy a cheap amazon kindle fire and play off that as well. On top of selling their titles on Xbox Store and Battle.net, they own some of the largest GaaS properties in the industry today.

They have the largest cloud gaming service in both users, time played, as well as global reach.
They have the largest game subscription service with the same metrics.
They make great money off selling their titles on numerous store fronts.

And despite revenue being massively decreased with the loss of hardware, Xbox has grown this quarter.
I would say that the long term outlook is that they are doing well.

People are paying more attention each month. Console gaming is getting too expensive to sustain any more growth, you're only going to see the industry contract now, I've spoken to this point repeatedly to deaf ears.
Do you actually play video games? Cloud gaming sucks, it’s too high latency for anything except point and click story games.

A game console that is doing well doesn’t need to hike prices, because they take a loss on the console and make up for it with accessory and game sales. Clearly nobody is buying Xbox games!

729$ 2tb xsx makes ps5 pro looks like bargain :D

Cloud isn't really ready yet.

cloud will never actually be ready. Each time cloud advances so does home hardware.
You aren't the market. I don't believe a significant number of GP subscribers are just going to switch to xCloud in a couple years. It's ridiculous IMO. Good luck playing CoD on xCloud. Not gonna happen.

Yes but they wont buy xbox consoles to play cod. They will buy switch 2s and playstation 6s to do so.
They didn't just vanish. MS pissed them off before digital ecosystem lockdowns were a thing.

I guess we will see even more pissed off people leaving microsoft with the next console transition then and you can call it whatever you want
They would be fools to publicly assert that, but it doesn't mean it's not true. I think between only selling 30 million units and GP, Xbox 3rd parties don't sell that many units. But the thing we don't agree on most is that you believe that MS going multi-platform will drop the userbase significantly and I don't. I believe most current Xbox users want another GP box.
We have to disagree because xbox hardware continues to decline while game pass sees little to no growth depending on the quarter. This last quarter was only 8% growth year over year. They also announced large price increases on the xbox hardware which will cause hardware sales to decline even further
We'll have to see what everyone else does. I don't think you're representative of the market. Everyone I know wants a new box for GP.

Dunno what to tell you . I have talked to many current and prior xbox owners as well as people who haven't bought xbox before. None of them are interested in a new xbox.
It depends where those people ended up. If on PS, then you have a point. If on PC, then it's fine. All the more reason to get more PC ish. MS behavior suggests the latter.

If they end up on pc it will likely be on steam since its the largest platform and is still growing. The xbox app on pc has very little traction sadly.
Interestingly, in my own circle I knew PC, X1 and PS4 people last gen and 100% of these people stayed with their platforms into current gen. It's a mix of casual and hardcore, btw. That's why I believe Phil when he says that losing the first digital generation was fatal to Xbox hardware growth. Even the amazing value of GP wasn't enough to pull PS people back to Xbox. That's the reality on the ground. There are still some growth possibilities due to little Jimmy outgrowing his Switch etc... , but it's a slow road.
From 360 - one about 15% of my friend list left xbox. From one to series its about 50% of the remaining. We can see based on hardware sales that people are fleeing the platform. The new price increases are going to drive them away quicker.
But it cuts both ways. Most Xbox people don't want to go PS either. That's why MS believes going multi-platform won't lose too many fans. We'll see if they're right.

Xbox people will go to whatever platform has the games but its likely not one that ms controls

Like I said there is a chance for game pass and xbox hardware to start growing together. There is a chance that one of them dies while the other lives and of course a chance when both die out. Its easy to see that MS is pushing for the death of xbox hardware.

IT seems to me that any vision MS has had for xbox is gone and now its just something they have to figure out how to wind down.

The thing is, so long as MS want to have Gamepass as a significant revenue stream, if cloud is not up to the task they need to have a none PC gaming platform - even if that platform is even closer to PC than it currently is.

The thing is, if you get too close to being a PC then the user friendly experience suffers and technical issues like shader compilation stutter begin to make the experience less than premium.

From MS's perspective, Xbox hardware is something that there is currently no substitute for as long as they want to keep building Gamepass.

And as the worlds largest game publisher, for game sales, not paying 30% to Sony or Nintendo or Steam gives some room for Xbox hardware costs to be managed even if economies of scale for hardware favour Sony somewhat.

Have you recently tried xcloud? Or are you prone to just writing inflammatory responses?

Xcloud they have made major strides on latency since their initial release. In my last test it’s nearly imperceptible. The quality isn’t yet there, but latency is getting close enough that mainstream players would not notice.

Not recently, I last tried a few years ago and while it worked in a pinch it's nowhere near ready.

What latency figures were you getting?
Just try it. I’m not too far from a main server here, maybe 700km away. I don’t know how it is in Europe. But I can barely notice it now. I haven’t measured it using a camera but I don’t think it’s much as I played it for about an hour and the session was very good. I only had Fortnite to test, as I’m on PC GP.

That link is free for anyone to use. No GPU required.

I can still notice the lag, but I wouldn't call it unplayable. I actually think it's a tad nicer on my Xbox One than it is on my PC, because the way it acts when it gets spotty is better, and seams to maintain player inputs. But I do use it a fair amount. Mostly to test games, sometimes if I want to play a next gen game in my bedroom, where I have an Xbox One. My kids stream a fair amount as well, and anecdotally, I've had a couple systems I repaired in the last couple weeks, Series S all of them IIRC, and they had games that they had streamed. I always test the systems after they are fixed by letting them run a game for a bit to make sure they aren't going to overheat or anything, and the last game played on those systems were streamed, which isn't going to stress the system enough for me to know if they are cooling properly. It could just be the storage limitations of Series S motivating people to stream, or maybe they think it's good enough.

But for me, I play a little of a game I have some level of interest in, and if I like it, download and install it.
