So you write numbers in the air instead of pronouncing them now, when actually TALKING to other people? Now THAT's an interesting idea! :)

I was refering to ads, which require saying "Xbox 360" almost never.

Sorry for the misunderstanding then, although you were quoting McFly, which wasn't talking about it in the context of ads in particuliar.

Coca Cola is Coca Cola, no matter where you are. Names don't normally change internationally these days, which is why car manufacturers have to be careful what they name their models in case the english/french/german/italian phrase is a swear word or something daft in another language. This is also why Jif changed to Cif in the UK, because on the continent they don't have a 'J' sound the same as us so Jif wouldn't be pronounceable, but they didn't want the same product under different names.

As such, expect the chinese to talk of Xenon as "cow wung lung ping chung ex-box flee-sixty yong ting nyung"

Afraid I must jump on the bandwagon with this one. I was hoping for either the stereotypical "Xbox 2" or the more intriguing "Xbox Next" (which would get nicknamed "NextBox" pretty fast ;) ), but "Xbox 360" would just be a really peculair name to jump to. "Xbox HD" would still be pretty bad, too.

I guess it'll fit in with their advertising plans ("Gaming has finally come full circle!"), but whatever. I like it when companies pick something either more meaningful or more clever.

Heck, I'd be happier if they just called it "Xenon." :)

What does that mean? We're gonna playing Pong again?!
See, I dunno... But there are only so many things you could do with "360." ;)

"It's how many seconds are in an hour!" doesn't really have any marketing possibilities.

Hey, thats how i see it, of course hype dies after sometimes, what did you guys expect?
You think those 24 hour record sales is Pr BS?
Come on, give credit where credit is due-.
Halo2 was kinda like Matrix Reloaded, some loved others hated it. But that didnt stoped it from being one of the most anticipated movies in recent years.
But hey, thats how i and people i know see it.
;)

"There was some hype at launch" some? Where were you? :?:
After Mgs2 halo2 was probably the most anticipated game in recent memory.

And like MGS2, Halo2 was a good game, not sure where u're getting the idea that it was a POS, apart from personal preferences.

Sorry, i wasnt trying to say that i tought of it has POS, i love it, actually best game i played at least last year. But lots of people (on foruns) said that it was going to be POS and that since the xbox install base was smal it would sell no more than 3 million. I just trying to say, people should not underestimate MS.

I think this might be the same in other countries, so in short, some stuff doesn't make sense.

I can't speak for many other languages, but I can tell you that in German, the 2 in PS2 is pronounced in German (PS-"zwei") and not in English. Not sure if this will hold true for Xbox 360 as well - I guess it all depends on Microsofts marketing in our territories.

Maybe the 360 refers to the temperature (not in kelvin either) the chips are running at  . Bill did say they were burning through hundreds of watts.

People would even laugh out loud when you would say "PlayStation twee" instead of "playstation two".

Tee hee!

Xbox 360 means people will either refer to it as a "360", or "the new xbox", or "xboxthreesixty" which is a mouthfull. Marketable names have a two syllable maximum. Hence "NextBox" works on a lot of levels.

No, I think it'll look something like this:

Since I came to work... from 7 am :)
A lot of that time was spent designing it "inside my head" before I started the illustrating app and started modelling, the rendering took a considerable amount of time too :)
